Sinds 2008 een vaste klant in de finale van de MuMeLadder maar - na 2x net niet en vorig jaar zelfs buiten de top 10 - nu voor het eerst een top 5 notering voor "het lichtje van Morrissey en kornuiten". Het nummer ook wat het meest van alle finalisten bovenaan een lijstje prijkte, maar liefst 11 deelnemers vonden dit het beste wat de finale te bieden had. Maar tegelijkertijd is het nummer van alle top 10 nummers ook, op Black van Pearl Jam na, het meest helemaal onderaan de lijstjes te vinden, maar liefst 4x. Het leek er bovendien ook lang op, totaan ongeveer de helft van de gestelde stemmen, dat dit niet het beste Smiths nummer uit de finale zou worden....How Soon is Now heeft echt heel lang boven There Is a Light gestaan. En tussen de 120 en 130 stemmen leek ie zelfs nog kans op de top 3 te maken, hij stond toen heel even 4e op niet zo'n grote afstand vd nummer 3, maar zover is het uiteindelijk niet gekomen. Desalniettemin mogen the Smiths fans denk ik niet ontevreden zijn met een 5e en 6e plaats in de finale.

Hier zijn ze dan eindelijk, de verrassing van de finale mogen we toch wel zeggen oftewel the Dark Horse, want hoeveel mensen hadden vooraf dit nummer nu in de top 5 verwacht. En daar leek het bij de allereerste lijstjes van de finale ook helemaal niet naar uit te zien maar al heel snel werd er een spurt richting top 10 ingezet en na even een pas op de plaats sprintte a Day in the Life meteen door naar de top 5. En ook daar leek het niet op te houden want op een gegeven moment tussen 2 geposte tussenstanden in, heeft het nummer zelfs nog even 2e gestaan en leek de sensatie compleet te worden. Uiteindelijk is het zover niet gekomen maar debuteren in de finale met een 4e plaats is voorwaar niet slecht. Het nummer is dan ook maar door 1 gebruiker (aERodynamIC) helemaal onderaan gezet, wellicht dat daar een deel van het succes uit te verklaren valt.
