'Jeanny' is voor mij net 13 in een dozijn dan de ultieme popsong. Vooral het refrein belichaamt dat en de tussenstukjes zijn tenenkrullend enerverend. Ultieme popsongs zijn voor mij iets als 'There She Goes' of 'Don't Dream It's Over' al veronderstel ik dat niet iedereen die ook zo smaakt als ik, natuurlijk.

Het is juist een enorm sterke tekst die zelfs destijds nog heeft gezorgd dat het nummer geband is geweest op de Duitse publieke radio. Wat ik erg goed gedaan vind is het feit dat het lijkt alsof het over verkrachting gaat maar dat je dat op geen enkele manier definitief kunt herleiden uit de lyrics. Het wordt aan de luisteraar gelaten om de interpretatie te geven. En er zit nogal een tegenstelling tussen de ik-persoon die het verhaal vertelt en de nieuwsberichten die suggereren dat er sprake was van een misdrijf. Die tegenstelling is erg knap gedaan en daar hou ik van.

Verder vind ik het nummer in muzikaal opzicht ook fantastisch. Het is dramatisch en lichtelijk pathetisch of zelfs kitscherig maar dat was ook overduidelijke de bedoeling. Het is immers een commerciële single. De afwisseling tussen Duits en Engels vind ik ook erg aansprekend en was voor die tijd zelfs behoorlijk origineel. En goed, ik vind Falco nou eenmaal een van de allerbeste zangers aller tijden.

Het vervolg, Coming Home (Jeanny Part 2, One Year Later) vind ik ook een fantastische plaat.
