Nooit gedacht dat die van Nas zo hoog zou staan bij mij

Had hem al eerder gepost, maar nog maar een keer dan:




1. Sage Francis - A Healthy Distrust.

A Healthy Distrust was het eerste album dat ik probeerde toen ik hip hop een kans ging geven in de zomer van 2005. Was het voorheen nog zo dat ik dacht dat hip hop alleen over bitches en money ging (wat mij overigens nu niet meer ergert), daar liet dit album zien dat hip hop ook andere dingen te bieden heeft. Flinke porties humor, afgewisseld met serieuze boodschappen. Ik ben dit album eeuwig dankbaar.




2. Sean Price - Monkey Barz.

Mijn favoriete rapper, afkomstig uit de Boot Camp Clik en wordt daar vaak als leider van gezien. Deze man rapt niet om te rijmen of om iets nuttigs te zeggen; het moet gewoon zo gruwelijk mogelijk klinken, en dat doet het zeker. Een van de tracks (Rising to the Top) was trouwens ook te horen op een radiostation in Grand Theft Auto 3.




3. The Jacka - The Jack Artist.

Hier begint het getouwtrek al, maar ik heb er voor gekozen om The Jack Artist maar op nummer drie te zetten. Dit album is eigenlijk het enige album van langer dan een uur speeltijd, die ik in een adem uit kan luisteren. The Jacka pompt hier heel veel realiteit en eerlijkheid in. Jacka heeft een zeer unieke stijl van rappen, die perfect past bij de beats die hem geleverd worden, en dit alles overgoten met een hele hoop soul en R&B.




4. Cormega - The Realness.

Cormega rapt over dezelfde onderwerpen als The Jacka, en Jacka wordt vaak gezien als de Cormega van het westen. Over het algemeen gezien is Cormega de betere rapper, maar de beats die Jacka voorgeschoteld krijgt op The Jack Artist zijn gewoon een stukje beter dan die van The Realness. Het album heeft maar twee features, waarmee Cormega laat zien dat hij heel goed zelf een album kan dragen.




5. Black Moon - Enta da Stage.

En hier is nog een Boot Camp Clik-gerelateerd album. Buckshot, als het ware de lead-rapper van dit trio, is ook lid van de negenkoppige formatie. Dit album zette destijds (1993) samen met albums als Illmatic en Enter the Wu-Tang de eastcoast weer terug op de kaart, nadat mannen als Dr. Dre (met The Chronic uit 1991) en Ice Cube (AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted uit 1990 en Death Certificate een jaar later) de westcoast in de picture hadden gezet. Lekkere grauwe producties, maar toch ook erg jazzy.




6. Kool G Rap - 4, 5, 6.

Vanaf hier wordt het helemaal moeilijk, maar ik ga toch voor Kool G Rap. In 1995 had Kool G Rap al een hele carrière achter de rug; hij had namelijk al drie regelrechtige classics samen met DJ Polo achter de rug. Zes jaar na de eerste classic laat de man zien dat hij nog steeds heel erg hard kan spitten met een flow waar je U tegen zegt. Er is eigenlijk geen rapper die zijn flow kan evenaren. Waarom staat dit album dan op plaats 6? Dat komt omdat het album een paar minder sterke tracks kent. Slecht zijn die tracks zeker niet, maar ook niet werelds.




7. Souls of Mischief - '93 'til Infinity.

Souls of Mischief bestaat uit vier leden van de Hieroglyphics crew. Heel erg jazzy album met dikke basslines, niet teveel afwisseling qua beats, en een heel erg eigen stijl. Tajai kon mij op latere solo-albums niet bekoren, maar hier klinkt 'ie toch wel heel sterk, net als de andere drie leden.




8. O.C. - Word... Life.

Dé typische mid-nineties eastcoast stijl, zoals ik ze het liefste heb. Time's Up, de beste track van het album (tevens een van de beste ooit), is een uptempo track waar O.C. er op los spit. De rest van het album is veel jazzier. Heel erg goed gevonden lyrics met een geweldige flow van O.C. en een aantal heel erg sterke producties van D.I.T.C.-lid Buckwild.




9. Masta Ace - Disposable Arts.

Ge-wel-dig conceptalbum over Ace die vrijkomt uit de gevangenis, en om verdere problemen in de toekomst te voorkomen, kiest om te gaan studeren aan een hip hopacademie, afstudeert, vervolgens terugkeert naar Brooklyn en daar een bescheiden huisje koopt. Masta Ace heeft een heel erg eigen stemgeluid, en is al een veteraan in de hip hop. Jammer van de paar echt mindere tracks, en hij is eigenlijk ook ietsje te lang. Daarom blijft deze op plaats 9 haken.




10. Mobb Deep - Hell on Earth.

Toen waren we aangekomen bij de hekkensluiter van mijn top 10, en dat is het duo Mobb Deep met Hell on Earth uit 1996. Ik zie vaak dat mensen The Infamous uit 1995 het beste album van de Mobb vinden, maar voor mij is dat toch deze. De stijl is precies hetzelfde: heel erg donkere, grimey producties van Havoc met een Havoc en Prodigy die een uur lang heel goed op dreef zijn. Jammer dat ze tegenwoordig zo lui zijn geworden omdat ze geld teveel hebben. Anders hadden we nog meer gems van deze twee kunnen zien.

Niet om te provoceren, maar om aan te geven hoe meningen (binnen hetzelfde genre) verdeeld kunnen zijn. Mijn waarderingen voor Harco's top10.

Een 1* voor dat album van Sage Francis heb vandaag een album van hem gehoord, en ik vind hem juist een uiterst fijne rapper.

Als ik zo vrij mag zijn..

01. Madvillain - Madvillainy 4*
Fijne stem, producties (teksten) lekker vreemd, alleen niet een al te goede flow.

02. A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory 4*, lekker geproduceerd, met 2 fijne rappers. Vind ik ook wat beter dan MM.

03. Public Enemy - It takes a nation of millions to hold us back 3,5*, een aantal zeer sterke nrs, afgewisseld met wat mindere. Old Skool is niet helemaal mijn ding, maar dit vind ik best goed.

04. DANGERDOOM - The Mouse & The Mask ---- 1 keer ooit beluisterd, niet de moeite genomen om hem weer eens op te zetten, wordt tijd voor..

05. De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising 4,5*!! Heerlijke beats, zo'n feelgood album, met een paar legendarische nrs.

06. Opgezwolle - Eigen Wereld 4,5*, op 1 na beste NL album. Vooral de beats zijn geniaal, en de 2 rappers vullen elkaar zeer goed aan. Sterke flow, en creatieve teksten.

07. Viktor Vaughn - Vaudeville Villain ----- ken ik nog niet

08. Atmosphere - Godlovesugly 4*, Fuck You Lucy! Slug behoort tot mijn 3 favo rappers, zeer sterk album, al vind ik hun nieuwste wat beter.

09. DJ Shadow - Endtroducing ---- ook maar 1 keer beluisterd. Maar heb het niet zo met instrumentale Hip-Hop albums.

10. Run DMC - Raising Hell ---- ken ik nog niet, maar de overbekende nrs natuurlijk wel. En die klinken zeer goed.

Conclusie: Fijne Top10, jij bent een Madlib en MF Doom ''fan'' neem ik aan(ik kan het natuurlijk ook fout hebben).. Een paar van mijn favoriete albums staan er ook in. Goede Top10 vind ik Vooral vet dat je Atmosphere erin hebt.

Wat is er mis met dat album? Toppertje die hier veel te weinig genoemd wordt.

Yep, dat heb je helemaal goed bedacht.

Je hebt gelijk, maar ik vind Afu als MC erg lekker en doet me iedere keer weer wat, als ik het album beluister dan moet ik zelf ook concluderen dat er heel wat mindere nummers op staan, maar met nummers als Defeat, D&D Soundclass, Mortal Kombat, Equality en als echte topper Whirlwind Thru Cities zal dit album bij mij altijd een speciale plaats verdienen.
En vanaf de 3e is variabel, de ene keer vind ik die weer beter, 5 min. later weer een ander, hangt een beetje van m'n mood af
