Ik ben toch bang dat ik hem niet kan opvoeren. Ook omdat het gemiddelde (3,04) erg laag is. Jij schijnt zo'n beetje de enigste liefhebber van Styx te zijn.

Nee, daar was ik ook al van uit gegaan. Vandaar dat ik een kennismakingsnummer heb toegevoegd, voor de toekomst!

Roxy & Elsewhere mag dus niet meedoen?

Nee, volgens mij geen live albums. Anders zou ik ook direkt Lotus van Santana alsnog nomineren.

Dan snap je het verschil niet helemaal. Roxy is een live plaat, maar de meeste nummers zijn nooit op een studio album verschenen. Die 2 (van de 10) die het wel zijn, zijn ook fundamenteel anders.
Live albums worden uitgesloten , omdat het in meerderheid een soort verzamelalbums zijn (zoals Lotus). Roxy is eigenlijk een regulier album dat toevallig live wordt uitgebracht.

Wel zonde dat live albums niet mogen, loop ik gelijk een van m'n favorieten van dit jaar mis .

Sorry Graf, maar ook dat is meer een verzamelaar dan Roxy is

Ik kan ze ook nog wel hebben... heb uit dit jaar The Serpent Is Rising nog even overwogen, maar dat gooide qua gemiddelde en stemmenaantal nou ook niet direct hoge ogen.

Zie dat mijn suggesties in zijn geheel uit de lijst zijn gelaten. Wat zijn precies de criteria? Wat heeft Gryphon dat Betty Davis niet heeft? Of Gino Vannelli? Geen Mud maar wel twee keer The Sweet? Geen Sailor, wel een dubbele nominatie voor het mager gewaardeerde Mahavishnu Orchestra.

Objections, your honor

De criteria is 128 albums, geen live- of verzamel, minimaal 15 stemmen, zijn er dan nog meer dan 128, dan kijk ik naar het gemiddelde. De albums van Betty Davis, Gino Vannelli en Sailor worden in ieder geval geplaatst. Mud is dubieus. Het voldoet wel aan het aantal stemmen maar het gemiddelde is erg laag.

Ik ben gerustgesteld wibro

Dan had ik in 1975 ook Ricochet moeten nomineren van Tangerine Dream. Ook dat is volgens mij een live-album waarvan de nummers nooit eerder op een studio album zijn verschenen.
Bij twijfelgevallen hanteer ik nu eenmaal de MM Toplijst van het betreffende jaar. Daar staan deze albums niet in hoewel ze er qua gemiddelde wel recht op zouden moeten hebben.

Ik begrijp je punt. Wel jammer voor dat soort topplaten.

Edit: Ik heb voor Roxy inmiddels een wijzigingsverzoek ingediend om het album in de categorie regulier te krijgen.

Ik begrijp het onderscheid heel goed, dank je. Maar ik kan ook een betoog houden dat live uitgevoerde nummers weer héééél anders kunnen klinken dan het origineel. En er worden live heel vaak één of meer nieuwe nummers op een album gezet.

Het criterium live is goed om uit te sluiten omdat er muzikaal/opnametechnisch en qua sfeer een heel ander ervaringsniveau wordt bereikt dan bij reguliere studio-albums. Het voldoet aan hele andere eisen. En iedereen heeft voor z'n eigen favoriete artiest wel uitzonderingen waarom dat specifieke live album wel zou mogen.

Daarom is het goed dat er een algemeen criterium is op dat punt. Gevalletje jammer dan, ongeacht ongetwijfeld de aanwezige kwaliteiten. Maar de meest beroemde live albums zijn op dat punt al gesneuveld. Er blijft zo te zien nog voldoende interessants over.
