De Top 11 is bijna ongewijzigd, alleen Phoebe Bridgers mag aanschuiven.
De geknakte illusies zijn voor 3 entry’s die na 1 week al weer de achteruitgang wordt gewezen: Rolling Stones, RBCF, en Sports Team. Van de Stones en Blackouts begrijp ik dat geloof ik wel, die hebben echt wel betere songs op hun naam staan, Maar Going Soft van Sports Team verdient beter.

Met 5 lijsten die voor 50% meetellen is er toch, of juist daarom, grote schoonmaak met 8 entry’s . De zaailingen zijn een fris bouquet voor ieders smaak en juist de afwisseling is lekker. HipHop, ElectroPop, PostP, Dance. Gehusseld naar Persoonlijke voorkeur:

21. Run The Jewels feat. Greg Nice & Dj Premier - Ooh LA LA
Run The Jewels staan fier op 1 in de rotalielijst. Ooh-LaLa klinkt gelukkig niet zo opgef*cked als vorige Hiphop entry. Voor je het weet verslik je je in een ironisch bedoelde tekst die niemand begrijpt. Nu begrijp ik van een Raptext meestal ook geen snars, maar gelukkig versta ik nu dat er iets Ooh-La-la’s is.

25. Jason Molina - Shadow Answers The Wall
Jason Molina (VS) is al even niet hier meer. Dus waar deze song nu vandaan komt is me niet super duidelijk. Verlate live opname of zoiets. Maakt niet echt uit. Het ging om de afwisseling in de lijst, toch. Dus 1 dooie SingerSong hoort er ook bij.

24. Sevdaliza - Joanna
Sevdaliza klinkt als ver weg, welnee, gewoon Rotterdam. Met roots in Iran. Interessante mix van TripHop & R&B . Diversiteit was toch de kern deze week. AlsUblieft.

22. Ela Minus - they told us it was hard, but they were wrong.
Vanuit Brooklyn, New York lacht de oorspronkelijk uit Colombia afkomstige Ela ons toe onder het motto
“𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀.” Ze heeft alvast 11 juni 2021 in haar agenda gezet om op BestKeptSecret ons in beweging te krijgen met dansbare synthPop. Toeval wil dat ik nog een barcode uit 2020 heb liggen en zie dat vrijwel gehele BKS line-up overgeheveld is naar volgend jaar. Duim omhoog.

20. Melenas - Primer tiempo
Melenas bubbelt al weken net onder de top30. Deze week is Bingo, en terecht natuurlijk. Hoe fris wil je een Spaanse meiden band hebben. Lang was het rustig vanuit ES, maar nu is ook daar het Post-virus ontdekt met showgaze zang (zoals ook Hinds & Ghun). Oihana, María, Leire & Laura, doen gelukkig geen enkele toerijking aan de engelstalige markt, en zingen hart verwarmend hele album in het Spaans.

27. YEИDRY - Nena
Voor het zomers vakantiegevoel wordt Nena ook in Spaans bezongen. En vanuit de Dominicaanse Republic verhuist naar Italiaanse Torino is ze de culturele mix die we dezer dagen graag verwelkomen in DE lijst. Als je niet fysiek op vakantie kan, doen we het gewoon muzikaal.

29. FEWS - Heaven
Vroeg iemand zich al af wanneer de concert herinnering kwam? Hier is ie.
FEWS feestje was in de fijnste concertlocatie van Rotterdam (hé, 2x 010 in 1 afrekening….) .
Vooraf eenvoudige hap aan boord van de Vessel11, drijvend in de Wijnhaven, daarna afdalen naar het vooronder, en je in het zweet werken.
Over verschillende nationaliteiten gesproken, FEWS is mengelmoes van muziekgasten uit Zweden, USA, Portugal, en UK. En dat maakt het goedgekeurd ongrijpbaar, al is de basis een soort Noise-Rock, die wonderlijk genoeg, live veel opener klinkt dan vanuit de studio.

30. Ist Ist - You're Mine
Viertal uit Manchester, die bij mij eigenlijk al weer was ondergesneeuwd in de release regen, terwijl You’re Mine bewijst dat dat geheel ten onrechte is. Ongecompliceerde klassieke PostPunk. Geheime wapen is de ‘Ian Curtis’ achtige diepe zang.
Dat Ist Ist binnenkort komt spelen on the Continent is zeer twijfelachtig. Zag dat meerdere Britse bands hun uitgestelde tour plannen voor oktober alweer verzet hebben naar 2021, omdat dit najaar reizen vanuit UK te veel risico oplevert. 2 weken in quarantaine klinkt niet erg aantrekkelijk. A new dawn, a new day. De Rolling Stones en de Academic hielpen ons door de laatste corona maanden heen, een nieuwe generatie aan songs ligt op ons te wachten.

Gelukkig is daar nog altijd, een band waar je op kunt rekenen, Asylums. Ze moeten alle spoken van de pandemie verdrijven en hebben, ook zoals altijd, voldoende herrie bij zich.
En tot mijn schande moet ik bekennen nog niet eerder iets van een gelijksoortige, Welshe band Neck Deep, te hebben gehoord. Maar we zitten hier om te leren en op te doen, dus bij deze hun nieuwe werk.

En Liam Gallagher leert ons akoetisch gitaar te spelen. Tenminste, die intentie lees ik. Daar gebruikt hij geen nieuw nummer voor, voor die eerste beginselen, volgens mij is Sad Song gewoon al een keer uitgebracht door Oasis.

De nieuwe van Hockey dad, Neil Young en Phoxjaw moeten nog even op zich laten wachten. Ze hebben nog nummers genoteerd staan en we moeten nog wat te wensen houden!

Een lijst met veel verschuivingen, en een nieuwe nummer 1! Nick d'Virgilio zal niet bij iedereen een belletje doen rinkelen (deed het bij mij ook niet), maar hij gaat al tientallen jaren mee in de progwereld, als lid van Spock's Beard en Big Big Train, en ook als drummer op het laatste studioalbum van Genesis, Calling all stations. Where's the passion heeft een ijzersterke melodie, die na 50 seconden voor het eerst inzet en gemakkelijk in je hoofd blijf zitten. Het is zo sterk dat je je afvraagt of het niet al bestond, en zo niet, waarom het niet eerder bedacht is. Na het wat tegenvallende Goliath is Woodkid nu terug met Pale yellow, dat wat somberder en sfeervoller klinkt, en veelbelovender.

En veel belangrijker: het klinkt geweldig.

Inderdaad zeg! En dat is nog maar de single versie... Op het album gaat dit een instant klassieker worden

Na 2 dagen dan toch eindelijk niet te lui om de linkjes te zoeken en dus kan ik eindelijk mijn lijst plaatsen, waar er niet veel veranderd is, zit allemaal een beetje vast, vooral bovenaan. Al is er wel een nieuwe nummer 1. Heerlijke hiphop !! Na 9 weken staan trouwens al mijn nummer 1's nog allemaal in mijn top 11.

Tricky is terug met een nieuwe single, al ben ik wel niet helemaal weggeblazen verklaart ook de lage binnenkomst op 31, al is het toch mijn hoogste nieuwkomer. Nu ben ik te lui om meer te typen maar ik verwacht niet dat mijn nieuwkomers lang zullen standhouden, ik heb nood aan wat nummers die me wegblazen, want mijn tiplijst is flink vermindert deze week.

The Clockworks oorspronkelijk uit Ierland waren suportact voor Inhaler. Niet dat er muzikaal veel linken zijn. Vriendendienst. 3de single. Heeft alles in zich voor doorbraak((je).
Meer vergelijkbaar met The Lounge Society. Young & Angry.



Candid : indie-pop uit Birmingham. Er kan altijd nog een groepje bij. Zeker als er progressie in songwriting hoorbaar is, Pulling Away is hun leukste single Yet.

Deze week wat meer rust in de lijst. Slechts twee nieuwe binnenkomers. De ene is van een Australische band met de naam Husky; dan zou je denken dat ze zich vernoemd hebben naar het dier, maar het blijkt echter de voornaam van de zanger te zijn. Ik denk dat zijn ouders eigenlijk liever een hond hadden. Het nummer komt uit de overvolle tiplijst van WhyNotSmile
En de andere nieuwe binnenkomer is een instrumentaal nummer en dan ook nog een zonder gitaren; het zijn bijzonder tijden . Het is afkomstig van Kamasi Washington, die al eens mijn lijst haalde samen met Ibeyi. Het had ook zomaar het intro van een nieuw nummer van Whitney (de band) kunnen zijn, maar het schijnt het intro van een docu te zijn.

Week 25
- Op het gebied van singles een rustig releaseweek. Verder ook veel singles van afgelopen vrijdag waar ik nog niet goed naar heb geluisterd, die geef ik dan komende week nog een betere kans. Hoe dan ook, afgelopen vrijdag heb ik me vooral gericht op de albums van Bob Dylan en Phoebe Bridgers. De rest van de week natuurlijk wel veel singles uit 2020 geluisterd, maar dat waren de usual suspects. Eén nieuwe binnenkomer daarom: I See You van Phoebe Bridgers (Op Spotify heeft dit nummer een naamsverandering ondergaan, want het staat nu bekend als ICU). Heerlijk nummer van een dito album.
