- Pender Street Shoppers is een Canadees DJ-duo dat is gespecialiseerd in deep house, disco, funk, etc. Deze is alweer een paar maanden uit zie ik nu, maar dat mag de pret niet drukken. Ietwat donkere track, maar wel erg lekker.
- Rosalía haalde al even mijn lijst niet meer, maar ze is nu weer terug met een dramatisch pareltje van nog geen tweeënhalve minuut.
- Lola le Lann scoort met een lichtvoetig popplaatje dat inderdaad bijzonder eh zonnig klinkt.
- Róisín Murphy scoort weer met een lange disco-epos. Eigenlijk vind ik dit wel de minste van de singles die ze de laatste 2 jaar heeft uitgebracht, het mist een beetje de inventieve arrangementen van eerder werk. Ik hoop trouwens dat de excel van blur8 rekening houdt met de accenten in de voornaam.
- Elbow was ik nooit zo weg van, maar dit is wel een zalvend nummer op een bepaalde manier. En Guy Garvey heeft ook een prettige stem.
- Porridge Radio heeft een fraai album uit, waardoor ik hun singles maar weer in de herkansing heb gegooid. Losstaand maakt dit minder indruk dan op het album, maar een entry wordt toch wel afgedwongen.
- Bicep opent met ijle vocalen en die nemen me gelijk mee naar pak 'm beet 1994, toen Chemical Brothers, Future Sound of London, e.a. dit ook deden, meestal een zangeres als Lisa Gerrard samplend. Bicep heeft wel beter gedaan vind ik, maar hun sound is zo sterk dat ze het eigenlijk nog redelijk makkelijk halen.

@ herman: Accenten in de artist of titel worden pas een probleem als in meerdere lijsten verschillende schrijfwijzes worden gebruikt.
Róisín Murphy of Roisin Murphy worden pas samengevoegd als ze bewust (handmatig) gecorrigeerd zijn.
De lijst die als eerste een nieuwe titel toevoegt aan de database is leidend. Het helpt dus enorm als je een titel gaat toevoegen met een bijzonder schrijfwijze, om je te beseffen dat het de officiële schrijfwijze dient te zijn.
Hetzelfde geld: voor de featerings en mixen.
in het geval van Róisín is het weer opvallend dat Youtube en Spotify verschillen met de accent op de i.
í of i (accent of punt) , Op het oog nauwelijks een verschil, maar voor de excelmatch verschillend !
Spotify is overal meer accurater in de echte schrijwijze, die heeft dus mijn voorkeur.

Heerlijke nieuwe single van The Strokes, die ik nog een treetje hoger heb zitten dan hun vorige twee!

stardust's 40 - Week 14



Waxahatchee blijf ik veel spelen en ze palmt dan ook deze week de 1ste plek in met Can’t do much (heel herkenbaar deze dagen).
Ik kan wel wat opbeurende muziek gebruiken en dan ben je bij Alex The Astronaut aan het goede adres, haar nieuwe single is de hoogste nieuwkomer (if i sit here and watch Harry Potter, will i be allright?).
Is de allereerste keer dat the 1975 mijn lijst halen en dat heeft veel te maken met de aanwezigheid van Phoebe Bridgers op dit mooie duet, een heel andere sound dan ik van hen gewend ben.
Veel albumreleases worden tegenwoordig uitgesteld maar Laura Marling doet gelukkig omgekeerde, haar album was normaal gepland voor augustus maar komt nu vrijdag uit waarvan Held Down de eerste single is met die herkenbare sound van haar.
Loch Ness Monster is een fijn akoestisch folkliedje van de 19-jarige Matilda Mann uit Londen, waarvan de stem hard doet denken aan die van Billie Eilish. Verder nog de nieuwe singles van Jess Williamson (gehaald bij ranja denk ik) en Damien Jurado.

Simon 's Top 20, week 14 [05/04/2020]

De Aussies van Stand Atlantic zijn deze week de hoogste van drie nieuwe binnenkomers. Ik kende ze nog niet, maar dit prachtige 'Drink to Drown' is wat mij betreft een zeer welkome kennismaking. En de prachtige videoclip vol met mensen in thuisisolatie is ook nog eens 100% corona-proof.




De solosingles van Hayley Williams volgen elkaar in rap tempo op. Ik vind zeker niet alles geslaagd, maar met een beetje hulp van boygenius behaalt ze dan toch een notering in mijn lijst. Lilacs staat nog in de lijst, maar Waxahatchee komt ook met opvolger 'Can't Do Much' mijn top 20 binnen.

Ik had overal gezocht en het niet kunnen vinden, maar ik had beter in dit topic mijn zoektocht kunnen beginnen, want zoals gewoonlijk loop ik weer eens achter de feiten aan en was dit nummer hier al in menig lijstje genoemd; Ultraista met Tin King was het zoekresultaat. Van Radiohead hoeven we niet te veel te verwachten dit jaar aangezien dit Ultraista een project is van Nigel Godrich, die veel samenwerkt met Radiohead. Een ander Radiohead-bandlid is Ed O'Brian die onder de naam EOB de single Shangri-La heeft uitgebracht waarvan ik dacht dat het een nieuwe single was van The Zutons; Ed heeft een stem die heel erg op die van Dave McCabe lijkt. Niet leuk genoeg voor mijn lijst echter...
Waxahatchee met haar derde single van haar prima album en dit is de beste single tot nu toe met een fijne indiefolk touch. Hopelijk is half juli alle ellende achter de rug en kan ik voor de 4e keer van een geweldig concert van haar gaan genieten.
talker is Celeste Tauchar (spreek uit; talker) en kwam voorbij in een lijstje van grootste talenten die dit jaar op doorbreken staat. Dat was niet de BBC overigens. Ze klinkt als een rockmeisje zoals vaker gehoord...
