Week 17
- Onder de fanbase van The 1975 was het al een tijdje een favoriet (doordat ze dit nummer ook al tijdens concert speelden). Nu is het dus eindelijk als single uitgebracht: If You're Too Shy. Het stelt inderdaad niet teleur, al vaak afgespeeld deze week en ben helemaal verslaafd aan het nummer. Zowel de clip als de muziek grijpt wat meer terug naar het vroegere werk van de band.
- Sinds Jake Bugg zich aan heeft gesloten bij een nieuw label is hij een nieuwe weg ingeslagen. Hoewel ik zijn vorige Kiss Like The Sun erg lekker vond, ben ik toch wat meer van zijn ballads geweest. Vooral op zijn eerste album staan hier een paar voorbeelden van. Saviours of the City is ook zo'n prachtig nummer. Zijn beste nummer in jaren.
- Ook Bob Dylan laat van zich horen. Wat twee heerlijke singles heeft hij uitgebracht, hij doet het gewoon weer. Ik ken geen artiest die in zoveel verschillende decennia fantastische muziek weet uit te brengen. I Contain Multitudes weet me zo te raken door de voordracht, de simpele instrumentatie en de fantastische tekst. Net zoals bij al het andere fantastische werk van Dylan.
- Tenslotte ook nog een single van Car Seat Headrest. Hollywood kon ik niet echt pruimen, maar zijn twee vorige ook. There Must Be More Than Blood vind ik echter zijn beste. Ik hou van zijn lange nummers en dit nummer vind ik ook fantastisch. Dit is eigenlijk de CSH die ik graag wil horen.

Ik was niet gelijk weg van het nieuwe werk van CSH, maar na een paar weken tiplijst haalt 'Martin' toch de lijst. En dan kwam er gisteren eigenlijk de beste single tot nu toe en die komt dus ook meteen binnen. Verder de nieuwe FIELDS en de nieuwe Brutus, beide hebben ook een tijdje nodig gehad om toch tot de lijst door te dringen.

week 17 van 2020 met een nieuwe nummer 1 die zelf ook alweer op de hielen gezeten wordt, als dat maar goed gaat voor Phoebe. De binnenkomers doen het nog even rustig aan, wel 6 maar nog niet meteen in de top 20.
Hoogste nieuwe is van The Corner Laughers, vorige week in m'n releaseradar van Spotify. Fijn liedje wat me een beetje doet denken aan 60s singer/songwriters of bv Edie Brickell. Heerlijk kalm.
Maddie Medley stond dan weer in m'n discover weekly, ja Spotify weet inmiddels wel wat ik leuk vind. Na beluisteren ook eerdere nummers van haar beluisterd en nu vind ik het wel jammer dat ik haar vorige single niet eerder kende, die zou zeker goed gescoord hebben bij mij. De nieuwe is ook prima trouwens. Ze komt uit Nashville maar country kan ik het toch niet noemen, past meer bij zangeressen als Juanita Stein en Lily Hiatt.
Forever Honey haalde ik bij Get in her Ears, was al een poosje geleden dat ik op die site was geweest maar via facebook werd ik ook niet erg enthousiast van het gebodene. Dat bleek bij deze wel onterecht. Uit New York komen ze en volgens Spotify hebben ze 2 singles die met 2 andere nummers op 1 EP staan. Zo zouden Tegan & Sara waarschijnlijk klinken als die in de 80s muziek hadden gemaakt.
Chemtrails, daarvan weet ik zo niet waar ik die vandaan heb maar klinkt wel als tientallen andere bands die ik erg goed vind, beetje 60s girlgroupzang zelfs als je het wil horen met lekkere jangle-gitaren, uit Manchester.
Lauran Hibberd komt ook met een nieuwe, met in huis opgenomen clip en is iets minder uitbundig dan de vorige maar toch zeker een lekker springplaatje.
The Lazy Eyes haalde ik nog uit het steunfonds van Orinoco, 60s sound met drone geluid en welkome gitaareruptie om het af te maken.

De top van de lijst is flink door elkaar geschud. De hele top 3 van vorige week, staat nu buiten de top 3 en de nieuwe nummer 1 komt van buiten de top 10. Generation Game wordt nog elke luisterbeurt (en dat zijn er aardig wat geweest afgelopen week) beter en pakt geheel terecht de koppositie.
Maar ook onderin de lijst is het dringen geblazen. Drie nieuwe binnenkomers weer, waarvan de nieuwe CSH de hoogste is. Ze brachten al een paar singles uit, maar met There Must Be More Than Blood de eerste echte voltreffer w.m.b. The DMA's brengen het titelnummer van het nog te verschijnen album uit en komen weer een stuk beter voor de dag dan met het tegenvallende 'Life Is a Game of Changing'. De derde en laatste binnenkomer is voor het meisje in rood. En dan staat er nog een aantal prima singles te dringen, waaronder de fijne debuutsingle van de nieuwe Nederlandse band Roaming Lands.

Such Great Singles ♫ - week 17:
▸ 01. Shivers down my spine bij de nieuwe sneeuwpophit van Dizzy, met een songtekst die refereert aan een prachtige stad die ik al een tijdje mis (inclusief de concerten). Zware lyrics op een luchtige productie, als het ware een lach met een traan. En iets met eindeloos op repeat luisteren, waardoor ie direct op #1 binnenkomt.

▸ 07. Titmeister maakte zich hier al een tijd hard voor de prachtige Nederlandstalige ballad van Linde Schöne. Ik hoorde Ergens in Mijn Hoofd een kleine twee maanden geleden ook al een paar keer voorbij komen in Song van het Jaar, maar in eerste instantie was ik niet direct om. Gisteren kwam de emotionele songtekst gelukkig alsnog keihard binnen toen ik naar m'n favoriete radioprogramma luisterde
▸ 08. Synthpopanthem van Låpsley, waarmee ze een paar jaar stilte verbreekt.
▸ 13. Deze lente-/zomerhit van Pongo net als een enkele anderen hier pas echt goed leren kennen door Song van het Jaar. En de nachtelijke CSL-sessies
UWAAAAAA ♡ ▸ 14. Door meerdere mensen in m'n omgeving (thanks Koenr) de tip gekregen om eens naar de Brits-Japanse Rina Sawayama te luisteren. Zij bracht onlangs een steengoed album uit, dat lekker meevaart op de poptimism-golf. XS is de nieuwste single hiervan. Ik voorzie ook wel mainstreamsuccesjes, steekt extreem goed in elkaar.
▸ 17. Fenne Lily uit de lijst van stardust_be opgepikt. Ik zou haar eigenlijk over twee dagen gaan zien in het voorprogramma van Lucy Dacus in Utrecht. Hopelijk gaat het concert nog eens op een later moment door.

Ja, ik krijg er zowel Eefje- als Roosbeef-vibes bij Linde ook eens als support gezien van Eefje in Carré, maar toen was ze pas net bezig. Alleen wel een beetje zonde dat ik haar nu te laat oppik om nog een hit te kunnen scoren in de gezamenlijke lijst
