Western is een rasechte Daan, daarover geen twijfel. Een gloednieuwe track geïnspireerd door zijn soundtrack voor de film Rookie, vandaar de zeer filmische kant. Ja, dan heb je mij wel mee natuurlijk. Geweldig instrumentaal nummer, tevens de opener van zijn aankomende plaat. Daan Stuyft dan ook meteen de TOP 5 binnen.

De motorgeluiden uit de videoclip moet je even wegdenken. ;°)

week 40 van 2022 waarin Beau, Kynsy en Soft Blue Shimmer lijken te gaan uitmaken wie de nieuwe nummer 1 wordt - of houdt Hello Mary gewoon nog een poosje stand? Zes binnenkomers deze week.
Ciel, nederlandse zangeres maar inmiddels een britse band is in mijn lijst geen onbekende. Veel top 10 hits en dit jaar zelfs een nummer 1. Of de nieuwe dat gaat halen is te betwijfelen maar het is wel weer een heerlijk nummer dat veel belooft voor de EP die deze maand uitkomt.
De duitse band/zangeres Brockhoff heeft eerder dit jaar op 1 gestaan met Sharks, de nieuwe single is weer een prima pop/rock nummer.
De canadese Jenna Doe stond ook dit jaar in m'n top 40 maar haalde de top 10 niet. Of dat met de volgende wel lukt zal (ook) vooral van de concurrentie afhangen, ook weer een prima pop/rock nummer.
Hannah Jadagu, amerikaanse singer-songwriter die van Texas naar New York is verhuisd om muziek te studeren en daar onder gelijkgestemden is gekomen, hoode ik gister in haar KEXP sessie, ontdekte ik deze week in het Orinoco steunfonds (waar ik ooit ook Brockhoff heb ontdekt, en deze week wel op Ciel stemde trouwens). Erg lekker sfeertje in dit nummer, terecht dat ze op SubPop zit.
Laveda uit New York maakt volgens hun eigen bandcamp 'simber dream rock'. Ok dan. Ik zou zeggen een van de vele bands tussen dreampop en shoegzae, past ook rpima bij oa Alvvays en Soft Blue Shimmer.
Bleach Lab is dan gewoon dreampop in de beste tradities van Cocteau Twins en komen nu met een meer dan 6 minuten durende track en wordt de titeltrack van hun 2e EP die volgende maand uitkomt.

- General Ehi Duncan is een Nigeriaanse artiest die in de jaren '80 behoorlijk onder de radar is gebleven (behalve wellicht in Nigeria zelf, maar ik ben slecht op de hoogte van de Nigeriaanse charts uit die tijd). Na te hebben gezongen op albums van anderen, probeerde hij het in 1987 zelf met een album, maar ook dat bleef onopgemerkt (slechts 0 stemmen op RYM en op MuMe überhaupt niet toegevoegd). Gelukkig zijn er altijd weer cratediggers die dit soort obscuriteiten opvissen en als ze dan ook nog DJ/producer zijn, kun je er ook nog een fijne remix van verwachten. De Amerikaan Captain Planet (slechte naam trouwens) is er zo een en heeft het toch al fijne origineel nog net even wat swingender gemaakt. Heerlijke afro-boogie/afro-disco.
- PPJ en zeker Lauer zijn heel wat bekender. Laatstgenoemde brengt de ene na de andere remix uit en onlangs ook nog een studio-album. Na een paar remixen die ik niet zo voelde, gaat deze er wel weer goed in. Lekkere vette 80's house. Dat synthloopje dat er non-stop in zit is echt verslavend.
- Jamie xx is nog veel bekender en na ruim 10 jaar is wel duidelijk wat zijn signaturesound is: een soort mix van 90s dance, Jamaicaanse vocals (is dat Diana King die daar gesampled wordt) en natuurlijk de marimba. Wat dat betreft weinig verrassend, maar toch is het wel weer een lekkere plaat.
- Björk is één van mijn all-time favourite artiesten en dat komt ook zeker door de laatste platen. Over de allernieuwste zijn de meningen weer prettig verdeeld en dat maakt me alleen maar nieuwsgieriger dan ik al was. Binnenkort maar eens even goed voor gaan zitten. De singles beginnen in ieder geval te landen, deze Atopos als eerste.
- Van Oumou Sangaré had ik even gemist dat er een nieuw album was. Deze single grijpt me niet zo als die van een jaar of 5 terug, want voelt iets meer als rechtlijnige pop, maar gezien de rating moet ik ook dit album maar eens opzoeken.
