week 14 van 2023 met alweer een andere nummer 1; Laveda geeft Seaside geen 2e week maar neemt het stokje alvast over. Ik vermoed wel dat ze met z'n 2en nog een poosje op 1 en 2 blijven staan, maar voorlopig wel in deze volgorde dus. 6 binnenkomers.
Iraina Mancini is momenteel bekender als BBC radio dj, toch heeft ze in 2021 al op 1 gestaan bij mij. Haar nieuwe single heeft ook een 60s/ye-ye sound en de clip ziet er ook weer geweldig uit als mini-speelfilm.
Ciel komt met een erg korte nieuwe single, nog geen 2 minuten waarin wel een hoop gebeurt. Gave nieuwe single als voorproefje van een nieuwe ep.
Be Your Own Pet is terug; ik zag de band een keer op Lowlands waar na 20 minuten het hele drukstem verspreid over het podium lag, einde optreden. Ze hadden toen ook nog maar 1 album van nog geen half uur uit... Na een 2e album en een solo-album van zangeres Jemina Pearl werd het stil tot nu. Iets minder hard en snel maar zeker nog goed.
Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers klinkt dan iets meer als de oude BYOP maar toch ook echt van nu. Uit de lijst van simon77 opgedoken.
Dolores Forever heeft vorig jaar even in m'n lijst gestaan, de nieuwe staat nu al hoger. Gezellig liedje, tot je de tekst beter luistert.
Hann heeft al met meerder nummers in m'n lijst gestaan, waaronder een waarin ze vertelde dat haar moeder chauffeur voor zangeres Nico is geweest, duitse roots dus. Haar nieuwe single heeft zoals gebruikelijk ook wat onweerstaanbaars, lekkere singer-songwriterpop.

Terwijl de magie van Inside nog niet uitgewerkt is én opvolger No Choice de toppositie van Kerala Dust overneemt, komt Opal Skies ook nog eens met hun kersverse worp binnen: All His Life, and After. Wat een intrigerend geval is me dat, het lijken wel twee verschillende songs door elkaar verweven met daarbovenop een nog anders klinkende finale. Derde maal op een rij raak voor deze band, die nu al een heel eigen en herkenbare sound heeft. In de final act meen ik wel Placebo invloeden te horen.

Dan nog Riot van The Scarlet Opera, waarvan ik zo'n vermoeden heb dat ik de énige fan zal zijn. Alive wist me ook al te bekoren. Die hele EP (Comedy) is enorm aanstekelijk, een soort van rock-musical ofzo. Om het met de woorden van Loyld Christmans te zeggen: I like it a lot. EDIT: Oja, Raincatchers van Birdy komt ook binnen gevlogen.

Verder veel verschuiving, in de TOP 20 flink wat nummers die we daar voor 't eerst zien.

Fijn dat jullie zo scherp zijn. Toen ik deze track opnam in mijn lijst heb ik juist bewust afgeweken van de Spotify-notatie. Spotify is vaak niet consequent in de naamgeving van samenwerkingsverbanden, al kan dat ook aan de artiesten zelf liggen natuurlijk.

In ieder geval gebruiken ze helaas nooit een &-teken als er meerdere artiesten zijn, maar altijd komma's om de losse artiesten te onderscheiden. En die losse artiesten kunnen allerlei rollen hebben en soms niet eens per se de artiesten naam zijn. Soms worden hier featurings genoemd, terwijl die bij andere nummers weer in de titel staan. Hetzelfde gebeurt vaak bij remixers, daar staan de remixer zowel bij de artiest als in de titel. Soms worden hier individuele bandleden genoemd, terwijl er ook gewoon de bandnaam bijstaat (zie bv. https://open.spotify.com/album/6fgyY81fI91dVjDNSdQ620?si=wASvgIt0QJa03wbPOeTumw). En soms maakt Spotify er helemaal een zooitje van en is het een combinatie van 2 of 3 van dit soort zaken.

Bij dit soort zaken kijk ik altijd naar de hoes hoe het daar wordt weergegeven en neem ik dat over. En als het niet op de hoes staat, wijk ik uit naar officiële kanalen van de artiesten, zoals Bandcamp of in dit geval YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xag6bVVaDE&ab_channel=PalaisVert

Heb in mijn bestand nu wel het accent aigu toegevoegd in de titel, dat zou het matchen alvast makkelijker moeten maken.

Ik sluit me daarbij aan, wat betreft afwijken van Spotify. Ik merk wel dat dat echt iets lastigs is in dit topic, het matchen. Zo gebruikt Eigenwijze 30 bijvoorbeeld een plusteken bij sanenwerkingen waardoor bijv. onze noteringen van Escapism apart genoteerd zullen staan. Wat dat betreft snap ik de suggestie om zoveel mogelijk Spotify aan te houden. Ik denk dat er nog best wel wat nummers nu de lijst mislopen of punten mislopen voor de uiteindelijke jaarlijst.

Het matchen van alles lijkt me ook erg lastig, zeker omdat mensen ook nog leestekens vergeten, spelfouten maken, etc.

En soms moet je ook maar net weten dat Spotify iets geks doet. Wat ze ook wel eens doen is bij een artiestennaam die een afkorting is zowel de afkorting als de uitgeschreven naam vermelden.

Peverelist is een Britse underground producer die met een behoorlijk energiek UK bass nummer op de proppen komt. Hoog tempo, vette rollende synths, positieve vibes. Heerlijk nummer.
Qua dance is de Ricardo Villalobos-remix van Kiss U dan weer het andere uiterste. In ruim 13 minuten hypnotiseert de oude minimalmeester je als in zijn beste jaren. De verschuivingen na dik 10 minuten zijn subtiel, maar hebben maximaal effect. Voor de echte volhouders staat op dezelfde single ook nog een 40-minuten-durende Villalobos-remix van een ander nummer van Ela Minus & DJ Python.
Say She She is een New Yorkse groep die me een beetje aan Florence + The Machine deed denken, maar dan met meer een soul-touch. Hele fijne plaat dit. Ik zie dat dit al de 9e single in iets meer dan een jaar tijd is, maar tot nu toe waren ze me nog niet opgevallen.
Fatima Al Qadiri is zo'n naam die al een tijdje rondzingt, maar die bij mij ook nog onder de radar zat. Maar dit is een erg indrukwekkend een nummer. Een beetje alsof Dead Can Dance een Arabische nazaat heeft die ook into electronica is.
Feist is een bekende naam, het is onderhand alweer dik 15 jaar geleden dat ik viel voor haar muziek. Lang niet alles is goed, zo deden de recente nieuwe nummers me nog niet veel. Maar deze heeft echt wel iets. En sowieso is er die fantastische stem.
Rogê komt uit Brazilië en maakt heerlijke popmuziek die een beetje dansbaar is. Krijg hier flinke Caetano Veloso-vibes bij.
Afgelopen week speelden we elders op het forum 'The Greatest Hits of Meinder Talma'. Meindert Talma is een soort creatieve duizendpoot die je zou kunnen vergelijken met Spinvis, al is Talma wel een stuk ongrijpbaarder en absurdistischer. En soms ook weer heel erg concreet, als hij geschiedenisverhalen vertellen via muziek. Dit gaat wel een beetje deze kant op. In eerste instantie vond ik het ronduit knullig, maar op de een of andere manier is de knulligheid zo vormgegeven dat het toch werkt.

Het Magistrale To Rage is natuurlijk de hoogste nieuwe deze week.
DWDW is mijn favoriete Schotse Indie-rocker. Ondoorgrondelijke waarom ze nog niet opgepikt zijn door MuMe,
dus bij deze nog een laatste poging:

Hopenlijk heeft ieder een fijn lang paasweekend gehad. Daarom is de weeksluiting van de afrekening pas
op dinsdag. Tot 10 uur Vanavond gaan alle lijsten of mededelingen nog verwerkt worden in de gezamenlijk.

Ik zie graag de laatste lijsten nog binnenkomen van.
