week 22 van 2026 met Blondhell uiteraard nog op 1, Panic Shack sprint de top 10 in en verder is het aanbod zoals gewoonlijk weer veel te groot, waardoor sommige te weinig kunnen stijgen en andere te snel zakken.
Wel weer 6 binnenkomers.
Sundayclub is een band uit Canada die net voor Paper Bag heeft getekend, een prima label waar ik diverse albums van in huis heb. Sundayclub doet wel en beetje denken aan the Primitives, lekker fuzzy pop/rock.
Seko heeft al eerder in m'n lijst gestaan dit jaar, top 3 gehaald zelfs met Say Hi to the Sun. Dat zou qua titel nu beter passen dan in februari, maar goed, prima alt rock uit Californie.
About Yesterday is weer een nieuwe naam voor mij, een trio uit Australie met een lekker zomers pop/rock nummer dat ook best bij landgenoten als Coast Arcade had gepast.
Caroline Rose ken ik vooral van haar tweede album, pre-top 40 voor mij, maar haar nieuwe is een heerlijke country rock meezinger.
Attic Ocean, duitse dreampop, stond eind 2024 in m'n lijst met het dromerige Lillies and Sea en daar past de nieuwe prima bij.
Snarls, uit Ohio, stonden in 2024 blijkbaar ook 2 weken in m'n lijst, ik verwacht wel wat meer succes met hun nieuwe alt-rocker.

- Gabi Delgado was een van de leden van DAF (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft), een legendarische Duitse politiek geëngageerde EBM/electro-industrial band van begin jaren '80, en Marc Hurtado is een Franse muzikale zielverwant. Samen namen ze geregeld muziek op die onlangs postuum werd uitgebracht (Delgado overleed in 2020). Nu is er een uitstekende remix van The Hacker van een van die tracks die je het gevoel geeft alsof je op een duister electro-feest ergens in de jaren '80 bent beland.
- Aera is een Duitse producer die house met wat lichte disco-invloeden maakt. Fijne meeslepende plaat. Doet me in de verte wat denken aan Tensnake.
- Dat Massive Attack een nieuwe single uit had, had ik compleet gemist. En met Tom Waits nog wel. Intrigerende track, ze kunnen het nog altijd. Jammer dat het niet op Spotify staat, al is dat een bewuste boycot en eentje waar ook wel iets voor valt te zeggen. Ik denk er de laatste tijd ook wel eens aan Spotify te verlaten, misschien dat ik me binnenkort maar eens opnieuw in de alternatieven moet verdiepen.
- Gigi Girls is een Duitse italogroep met een leuke electronische poptrack. Over 2 weken staan ze op Oerol, voor wie daarheen gaat (ik helaas niet).
- De single van Madonna en Sabrina vind ik elke keer als ik hem hoor weer lekker, maar hij blijft nog niet erg hangen. Misschien komt het nog, maar een entree is inmiddels welverdiend.

't Gaat niet lukken, ondanks een flinke rij nieuwkomers. Dat gaan er komende week dus 50 worden ofzo.

Allemensen, we zitten alweer in de laatste maand van het eerste halfjaar... Wat vliegt de tijd. Ook op sommige artiesten lijkt de tijd geen grip te hebben, want op #1 in de Gezamenlijke staat een dame die haar debuuthit 43 jaar geleden scoorde, en de snelste stijgers in de top 10 scoorden hun Britse debuuthit zelfs 63 jaar geleden... 23. Nothing But Thieves - Evolution
De heren van Nothing But Thieves maken hun tiental aan hits vol met de hoogste (of is het: minst lage?) binnenkomer van deze week. En de mannen uit Southend-on-Sea weten nog altijd als geen ander hoe je een pakkende rocksong moet schrijven. 'Evolution' bruist van begin tot einde, energiek en meezingbaar. Hebben we dit soort nummers al eens eerder gehoord? Ja natuurlijk. Vinden we dat vervelend? Nee natuurlijk niet, want dit is gewoon een lekkere variatie op een heerlijk thema. Pakkend van begin tot einde.

27. Klangphonics - Song for the Quiet Ones (ft. Anna Metko)
Aus Deutschland komen Maxi, Ben en Markus, ofwel Klangphonics. Het drietal uit Regensburg draait al een kleine tien jaar mee in de muziek, dus hoog tijd dat ze hun debuuthit gingen scoren in de MuMeAfrekening. Dat is dus 'Song fotr the Quiet Ones', maar daar hadden ze wel zangeres/ spoken word artieste Anna Metko bij nodig. De tekst hebben de heren overgenomen uit de track 'Quiet Ones' van de groep BRØR. Wat resulteert is een mooi stukje gelaagde elektronica. Dit 'Song for the Quiet Ones' is de eerste van zeven tracks die de groep uitbrengt tot november, elke maand eentje. Inmiddels is de tweede track ook al verschenen; die heet 'Dying Candle'. Mocht je Klangphonics live aan het werk willen zien in het Nederlandse taalgebied, dan kan dat eind deze maand in Tilburg op het Spoorpark-festival.

28. The Afghan Whigs - House of I
The Afghan Whigs vieren dit jaar hun veertigjarig jubileum. En dat doen ze met hun nieuwe single, 'House of I', alhoewel die al een jaartje geleden werd opgenomen. De grungeband uit Cincinnati rond zanger Greg Dulli komt sinds hun heroprichting in 2012 zo'n beetje om de vier jaar met een nieuw album. Hun vorige stamt uit 2022, maar over nieuwer werk dan deze single is helaas nog niets bekend. Dus moeten we nog maar even genieten van deze venijnige rocker. Nog een funfact overigens, want ik wilde het na veertig jaar (nou vooruit, na 33 jaar, want ik ken de band pas sinds 1993) wel eens weten: de Whigs was zowel in Engeland als in Amerika een 19-eeuwse politieke partij, een tegenhanger van de conservatieven. Zo steek je er nog wat van op ook.

29. THEATRE - The Fall
Geen veertig jaar oud, maar gloednieuw is de band THEATRE uit het Ierse Limerick. Het vijftal rond zangeres Maeve O’Shea brengt met 'The Fall' hun debuutsingle uit. Het is een meeslepende track geworden, die shoegazerig begint, maar al gauw uitmondt in een muur van postpunk-gitaren. Wat dat betreft zijn de vergelijkingen met hun plaatsgenoten the Cranberries nooit ver weg. 'The Fall' gaat overigens over een knipperlichtrelatie met een instabiele vriend; een giftige vriendschap die uiteindelijk verbroken wordt.

30. Honey Rebel - Clown
Niet helemaal nieuw, maar al muziek uitbrengend sinds februari van dit jaar, is de rockband Honey Rebel uit Roeselare. Na hun debuutsingle 'Storm' is 'Clown' 'al' hun tweede release. Het is een meeslepende track met een sterke opbouw. Het begint rustig, zet daarna stevig aan, bindt weer in tot een lieflijke pianoriedel om vervolgens alsnog los te barsten in een spetterende gitaarsolo. Zangeres Kyleen Roose en haar mannen zetten alvast de lijntjes uit naar een gouden toekomst.

Sowieso voor de zomermaanden maar even terug naar een top 40.
Moet toch ook kunnen.

Met dus ook een hele reeks aan verdwenen nummers en slechts drie nieuwe. Het was geen beste week al helemaal niet maar uiteindelijk dreven Montaines, Muse en Peter Gabriel boven. Bij de laatste is het ook altijd nog maar afwachten, het concept ligt behoorlijk vast, zeg maar. Maar ditmaal een iets betere song van Gabriel, eerlijk is eerlijk.

Montaines brengt eigenlijk ook slechts een iets steviger variant om mainstream rock. Maar de song is aardig, van deze nieuwe band uit Washington D.C.
