Ik durf geen tien favorieten te noemen. Ik zou teveel artiesten respectloos behandelen. Hier tien nummers die momenteel hoog in de lijst zouden eindigen:
* Joni Mitchell - Woodstock - Leren kennen dankzij Six Feet Under. Wat een ontzettend krachtig, prachtig lied is dit. Het voelt zo echt. Zo levensecht en puur heb ik muziek nog niet vaak gehoord.
* Grizzly Bear - Colorado - De laatste minuten lijken uit het diepst van een ziel getrokken te zijn. Zo zwaar. Zo simpel maar toch zo overdonderend. En dan dat hulpeloze "What Now?" er steeds doorheen. Brrr.
* Interpol - The New - Begint als een lovesong maar loopt uit tot een instrumentale klassieker. De baslijnen en het drumwerk zijn van uitzonderlijk niveau. De zang is bijna angstaanjagend op het moment dat Banks desolaat zingt: "You're Looking Alright Tonight, I Think We Should Go!"
* Beirut - Postcards From Italy - Beirut kan één gevoel heel goed losmaken in mij: nostalgie. Op Postcards From Italy doet hij dat het best. Heerlijk lied met misschien enige pretenties, maar niet op de foute manier.
* Sigur Ros - Glosoli - De climax is nog steeds buitenaards. Ook na dertig keer nog. De wonderschone clip zie ik ook graag.
* Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Storm - En dan heb ik het vooral over de eerste twee 'movements' die dit nummer rijk is. Simpelweg het best opgebouwde nummer in mijn collectie (hoewel? Popplagid van Sigur Ros?). De French Horn en de gierende gitaren bezorgen mij een pakketje kippenvel.
* Explosions in the Sky - The Only Moment We Were Alone - Geen woorden voor. Zo mooi. De officieuze nummer één.
* Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow - Het liedje wat mij aan mijn liefde ver hiervandaan doet denken. Een van de allermooiste zanglijnen die ik heb gehoord. Heel sterke tekst ook.
* Bloc Party - Kreuzberg - Mijn verheerlijking van de climax van Sunday doet anders vermoeden, maar toch kies ik voor Kreuzber als Bloc Party nummer in dit rijtje. Zo intiem hoor je ze niet vaak. Een gitaarrif die niet gehoord lijkt te willen worden. Een nauwelijks verlicht straatje met slechts twee inzittenden.
* Yo La Tengo - Gentle Hour - Een cover. Maar wel een cover die zonder enige twijfel zestien keer zo goed is als het origineel (van Snapper, Nieuw Zeeland). Vooral door het instrumentarium een prachtig lief nummer. De teksten zijn zo simpel als liefde hoort te zijn: "It's such a pleasure to touch your skin." "I can hardly wait." "The gentle hour, the gentle heart."

* Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Storm - En dan heb ik het vooral over de eerste twee 'movements' die dit nummer rijk is. Simpelweg het best opgebouwde nummer in mijn collectie (hoewel? Popplagid van Sigur Ros?). De French Horn en de gierende gitaren bezorgen mij een pakketje kippenvel.
* Explosions in the Sky - The Only Moment We Were Alone - Geen woorden voor. Zo mooi. De officieuze nummer één.
* Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow - Het liedje wat mij aan mijn liefde ver hiervandaan doet denken. Een van de allermooiste zanglijnen die ik heb gehoord. Heel sterke tekst ook.
* Bloc Party - Kreuzberg - Mijn verheerlijking van de climax van Sunday doet anders vermoeden, maar toch kies ik voor Kreuzber als Bloc Party nummer in dit rijtje. Zo intiem hoor je ze niet vaak. Een gitaarrif die niet gehoord lijkt te willen worden. Een nauwelijks verlicht straatje met slechts twee inzittenden.
* Yo La Tengo - Gentle Hour - Een cover. Maar wel een cover die zonder enige twijfel zestien keer zo goed is als het origineel (van Snapper, Nieuw Zeeland). Vooral door het instrumentarium een prachtig lief nummer. De teksten zijn zo simpel als liefde hoort te zijn: "It's such a pleasure to touch your skin." "I can hardly wait." "The gentle hour, the gentle heart."

Zeker een mooi lijstje.
Ik moet eerlijk zeggen dat ik het ook jaren heb bijgehouden. Ik weet nu alleen niet meer hoe ik moet kiezen uit de duizenden nummers die in mijn hoofd zitten.
Ik heb wel alles geadministreerd staan. Dus eigenlijk moet ik dan jaarlijstjes maken vanaf 1960. LP/CD-tracks uitsluiten, want anders is het helemaal geen doen meer.
Echt een enorm werk. Ik zou er een topic aan moeten wijden, misschien ook voor anderen op musicmeter interessant. Iemand nog enige suggesties?
