Op slag verliefd destijds, op de eerste tonen van dit nog steeds bij mij favoriete Eurythmics-nummer

2. Hazel O'Conner - Will you
Onbegrijpelijk dat dit niet in de hitparade heeft gestaan. Is in mijn kennissenkring een popclassic die iedereen van voor naar achteren kan meezingen.

3. White Soxx - Versailles
Behoorlijk algemeen erkend eendagsvlieg-meesterwerkje, misschien een tikkeltje te ´gemaakt´, maar deze werkt bij mij dus ook. Lange versie beluisteren!

4. Charlie Calello Orchestra - Sing sing sing
Zette de disco´s op zijn kop met bigbandmuziek op discobeat. Uniek en vernieuwend nummer.

5. Clash - Hittsville UK
Zo´n beetje mijn favoriete Clashnummer wel

6. Nick Straker Band - Leaving on the midnight train
Geinige ´witte popdisco´ met een pakkend deuntje

7. Undertones - It's going to happen
Tijdsbeeldbepalend, wordt ook nu nog wel wordt gezien als een essentiele plaat. Een beetje de Arctic Monkeys van toen.

8. Van Morrison - Full force gale
Een van de vrolijkere nummers van hem. Erg Folky

9. Look - I am the beat
Leuk Ska-popnummer met de befaamde oneindige groef aan het einde.

10. Modern Romance - Everybody Salsa
Deze in veel opzichten veel te feestelijke boysband is niettemin de eerste latin-beat die ik hoorde in de ´new romantics´. Gék was ik van dat nummer toen.

Klang en The Employees waren twee prille belpop groepen
die beiden op het Nederlandse backdoor label zaten.

Eerst waren er alleen The Kids en Raymond.
Hits waren er met Ca Plane pour Moi van Plastic Bertrand
en Kingston Kingston van Lou & The Hollywood Bananas.

De echte belpop start omstreeks 1979 met Moskow Diskow van Telex.
Daarna Jo Lemaire & Flouze, Walter Verdin, Lio en Rick Tubbax & Taxis.
Ook Machiavel en Toy breken door en daarna tekenen
The Employees en Klang bij backdoor.

Red Zebra, De Brassers en Scooter duiken op.
En met TC Matic breekt de belpop boom definitief los.

Van de Employees wist ik dus wél dat het Belgen waren. Jo lemaire en Lio zijn favoriet bij mij en over het imperium van Lou en Plastic Betrand heb ik pas een mooie docu gezien. Telex kennen we natuurlijk van t songfestival. Ik ken verder niet alle namen.

Opvallend is dat "Our lips are sealed" vaak in jullie lijsten voorkomt. Het nummer is oorspronkelijk geschreven door "Fun boy three" maar ook in de versie van "The Go Go's" uitgebracht.

Ik zit er trouwens aan te denken om een serie te maken met van elk jaar een tipparade-cd. Om ze te vullen ontdek ik dan ook weer een hoop nieuwe muziek uit die tijd. Het is een leuk concept en ik ben er eigenlijk wel achter dat het veel leuker is als de top 40.
