Je hebt een lijstjestic of niet. Omdat ik allemaal verschillende jaarlijstjes langs zag komen, leek het me aardig die op een hoop te gooien en te kijken of er een beetje uniform oordeel uit zou komen. Onderstaande jaarlijst van beste platen van 2005 is samengesteld op basis van acht top-30's. Ik heb de lijstjes gebruikt van de websites Pitchfork en Metacritic, van de muziekbladen Uncut en Q, van de internetfora Rate your music en Musicmeter en twee lijstjes van muziekhandel Plato (de eigen Platomania-hitlijst en een lijstje van Plato-klanten).

Omdat de lijsten niet alleen uit Nederland komen, is het Nederlands product in het nadeel. Het pakt in het nadeel uit van Spinvis en zZz. Daar staat tegenover dat het wel een leuke, gevarieerde lijst oplevert. Ander minpuntje is de datering van platen. The Arcade Fire doet het bij veel liefhebbers en critici goed, alleen tellen sommigen deze plaat niet mee in 2005 omdat de release formeel in 2004 zou zijn. Ondanks dat, toch een hoge score.

De ombetwiste nummer een van 2005 is niet verrassend. Zeven van de acht lijstjes vermelden de plaat van Sufjan Stevens, en wel op de eerste of tweede plaats. Alleen muziekblad Q heeft 'm niet in zijn top-30 staan.

Goeie genade wat een prijzen! Twintig euro voor een cd'tje van de Magic Numbers dat ik bij Plato voor krap vijftien euro koop? Die zijn gek.
