Die bewering durf zelfs ik niet te maken. Elvis had van zowel vaders als moeders kant, Cherokee bloed, maar niet donkerder dan dat. Maar uw opmerking was waarschijnlijk tongue in cheek, nietwaar?

Elvis ? De Elvis die ik vooral in mijn herinnering heb is die toen ie een jaar of 33/34 was, in zijn zwarte leren pak.. : A Big Hunk (of studness) . (ok, en de pre 60's Elvis). Geen albumliefhebber van hem, hoewel From Elvis In Memphis wel errug goed is.

From Elvis in Memphis had natuurlijk ook in deze lijst moeten zitten. Maar zijn debuut heb ik op 1 staan, natuurlijk.

Humor en een goede muzieksmaak zijn mijn handelskenmerken. En een grenzeloze bescheidenheid, uiteraard.

Die hoeven we ook niet meer terug te zien. Als je je luisteraars opdringt om je muziek in een hogere kwaliteit te beluisteren om zodoende zelf meer geld te kunnen binnen hengelen dan verdien je het niet om in onze lijst te komen. Volledig doorgeslagen die man.

Nou ja, de muziek van Neil Young staat toch los van zijn persoon. Death of the author-principe en zo. Ik sta ook niet achter zijn beslissing, maar een Harvest of On The Beach gaat er plots niet minder goed door worden

Veel ruimte naar beneden was er dan ook al niet meer...

Enfin (opa vertelt), zo was het een krappe vijftien jaar geleden in sommige kringen ook ineens minder cool om Metallica goed te vinden i.v.m. de rechtzaken tegen Napster.

Wat bedoel je precies?


Natuurlijk staat die muziek er voor het grootste deel los van, maar ik kan er niet zo goed tegen als muzikanten zo respectloos met hun fans omgaan. Laat iedereen gewoon zelf beslissen hoe hij/zij de muziek consumeert, via welk platform of welke kwaliteit dan ook. Neil Young mag in zijn handen knijpen dat er zoveel mensen naar zijn muziek willen luisteren en dat hij zodoende ermee een goedbelegde boterham heeft kunnen verdienen. De meeste fans die hij heeft hebben genoeg geld aan zijn muziek uitgegeven en moeten gewoon de mogelijkheid kunnen hebben om de muziek legaal op mp3-kwaliteit te kunnen beluisteren.

Da's een nogal ambivalent bericht dat je daar post - lees maar eens goed:



Ben ik het helemaal mee eens ik vind het nogal respectloos om op 27-jarige leeftijd al dan niet zelfgekozen de emmer een trap te geven, zodat er geen nieuwe albums meer komen - Amy Winehouse deed dat, Curt Cobain deed dat - heb ik geen goed woord voor over.

En sinds Michael Jackson deed alsof ie aan kleine kindertjes zat en Geile Glitter écht, kan ik hun muziek echt niet meer horen; zo heb ik ook moeite met musici die steeds rechtser zijn gaan denken

Nee wees, nou eens reëel - op een gegeven moment heeft iemand muziek gemaakt, gereleast en vervolgens gaat die muziek zijn eigen leven leiden. Het is totaal zinloos om continue muziek en maker aan elkaar te willen knopen - dat is een teveel van de biographical fallacy (zoek dat maar 'ns op).


Daarin kan ik me wel vinden - een stuk realistischer.

Dat het toch al k*tmuziek was... nevermind.

Misschien heb ik ergens iets gemist, maar het is toch even legaal om als artiest je muziek niet via Spotify te willen aanbieden als om ernaar te luisteren als een artiest zijn muziek er toevallig wel aanbiedt? De artiest mag er mooie verhalen bij ophangen over magere geluidskwaliteit of het verdienmodel erbij halen (en dat vooral zijn kleinere collega's er te weinig aan verdienen) en de oprechtheid daarvan mag allemaal in twijfel getrokken worden, maar dan nog...
