L1. Er zijn wat mij betreft twee absolute topnummers te vinden in deze ladder. Just To Let Him Break Your Heart is heerlijke tranentrekker en Who's Gonna Help A Brother Get Further is cultheld Lee Dorsey op zijn allerbest. De overige nummers zijn ook meer dan uitstekend al is Kiwanuka niet echt mijn ding.

L2. Rainbow Road is een ultiem soulnummer wat mij betreft, maar voor de swingende George Benson heb ik ook sympathie. Niet bijzonder verheffend of iets dergelijks, maar wel ontzettend fijn. Ann en Sam zijn altijd goed.

Ladder 1: Gelijk een zeer puike ladder om mee te starten. We zitten inmiddels in ronde 5 dus het niveau is natuurlijk over de hele linie hoog. Maar toch. Ik zet één van de allerbeste 90's r&b jams bovenaan. Daarachter Labi Siffre met het zeer sfeervolle I Got The... Lou Courtney is een van mijn top ontdekkingen dit spel en krijgt nipt de voorkeur boven Love & Hate.

Ladder 2: Exact dit! De andere vier liggen enorm dicht bij elkaar en zijn lastig te vergelijken. Ik laat Sam een keer puntloos omdat ik eigenlijk ieder nummer van The Show Must Go On beter vind.

L3. - Ik vind dat Joe Tex en 24-Carat Black er hier bovenuit steken. Al zitten JB en WB er niet ver achter. Verder ben ik een liefhebber van het werk van Sam Dees, maar ik vind dat dit onderwerp beter is gebracht door anderen. Bijvoorbeeld door een naam die al in deze ladder staat: James Brown.

L4. - Het kiezen wordt er niet makkelijker op. Wat moet je doen als drie artiesten met lievelingswerk komen? Aretha's Do Right Woman, Do Right Man vind ik één van haar betere nummers en verdient zodoende alle lof. Laura's I Need It Just As Bad As You vind ik misschien wel haar beste nummer. George's How Can I Get Next To You heb ik veel gedraaid en laat de vindingrijkheid zien van een sterke tekstenschrijver.
