Laat ik beide ladders beginnen om de 0 punters van principal op 7 te zetten. In ladder 23 staat ook nog een fantastische Gil en allemaal mooie van Willie, Stevie, Marvin en Al. Goede ladder.
Dan is ladder 24 wat minder. Deze van Otis is meer de hit, maar zeker niet z'n beste werk. Daarentegen is dat bij Donny juist wel zo. De andere songs hadden van mij ook wel wat plekken lager mogen uit komen.

Ik vind het wel opvallend dat juist deze van Bobby Byrd er nog bijstaat. Er zijn me toch een aantal mooie funknummers weggestemd en dan blijft juist deze over? Het is me wat. Niet dat het een slecht nummer is, maar het behoort toch zeker niet tot het ultieme funkwerk. Maar goed, dat terzijde.

L23: Gelijkwaardig niveau, enkel de folk van Willie Wright kan het niveau niet bijbenen. Ik vind zijn muziek best goed maar het verveeld zóóóó snel.

L24: Met slechts twee liefhebbers van Roberta Flack is het vechten tegen de bierkaai. Wellicht is thelion ook liefhebber want het zou wrang zijn mocht Roberta hier al struikelen. Hetzelfde geldt voor één van Otis allerbeste, die hoort gewoon in de finale. Groove Me is de derde parel in de ladder. Donny blijft lekker bij maar die andere twee laat ik hier graag achter.

Wat is er nu zo bijzonder aan deze Otis in verhouding met de rest van zijn oeuvre?

L27. - Ik vind O.V. Wright toch een iets wat onderschatte soulzanger. De intensiteit waarmee hij zijn materiaal brengt vind ik bijzonder en beloon ik graag. De klassieker van Solomon zie ook graag door maar dat zie ik niet zo snel gebeuren.
L28. - Wat mij betreft een ladder met vijf absolute topsongs. Daar reken ik Hard To Handle niet toe. Ik vind dit typisch zo'n nummer dat hoger wordt gewaardeerd omdat het gebracht wordt door Otis Redding.

Alvast voor ladder 30, ik zie dat er een link naar soultrain is geplaatst voor het nummer van Willie Hutch. Maar potverdomme zeg, die fraaie opbouw in het nummer mist dan en dat maakt het nummer nu juist zo bijzonder!

L29 - Er valt hier nauwelijks tussen te kiezen. Het zijn allemaal fenomenale liedjes! Maar goed, ik heb ze gerangschikt. De volgorde zou ook anders kunnen zijn. Zonde dat er hier al het een en ander moet afvallen.
L30 - Ik vind dat Stand By Me eigenlijk niet kan missen in een top 100 omtrent soul, maar ik weet dat niet iedereen deze klassieker even mooi vindt. Daarbij vind ik Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough en Stranger To My Happiness echt niet meer van het niveau dat ze hier zouden moeten staan.
