Nog drie uur ongeveer.... Het leek een afgetekende overwinning voor de blauwe tuin te worden maar op het laatst begon de derde man op de maan aan een inhaalrace... Komt er nog een stem bij, of hebben we een winnaar?

Het is dan eindelijk tijd voor de Fountains of Wayne KO! Hoewel al weer enige tijd geleden, maar het trieste overlijden van Adam Schlesinger op veel te jonge leeftijd (52 jaar) begin april door het Coronavirus was voor mij aanleiding om deze band eens centraal te zetten in een KO, want dat verdient die zeker. Ik heb zeker het debuutalbum grijs gedraaid, maar ook latere albums komen hier nog regelmatig voorbij. Ze zorgden wat mij betreft voor een fris geluid en lekkere nummers die geweldig goed in het gehoor lagen. Zonder het echt te zijn, lukte ze het toch om vernieuwend te klinken. Eén van mijn favoriete gitaarbandjes, die ik graag nog eens live had willen zien, maar dat gaat helaas dus niet meer gebeuren.
Ik heb de clipjes toegevoegd, zodat je het ook mooi kan gebruiken als kennismaking met deze geweldige band. Voor de selectie geldt dat ik voor 48 nummers ben gegaan. 32 vond ik wat te weinig, maar 64 werd wel weer erg veel. Dan maar er tussenin. Nadat we 6 nummers over hebben, spelen we een ‘lucky-losers-ronde’, waardoor we weer op 8 nummers komen.
Maar eerst maar eens die 48 naar 24 terugbrengen.
Ik heb het gehele debuutalbum meegenomen, 10 nummers van Utopia Parkway, 9 van Welcome Interstate Managers, 7 van Traffic and Weather (gezien de waardering op MuMe ben ik niet de enige die dat de minste van hen vindt), 8 van het verrassende comeback-album Sky Full of Horses en 3 van het album met B-kantjes en rarities Out-Of-State Plates. Die gooi je in random.org en die maakt er dan dit van in de eerste ronde:
