Jammer dat er niet meer nummers van Viva la Vida in de finale staan. Een aantal albumtracks (Yes, Strawberry Swing, Death and all His Friends) hadden mijn top 10 wel gehaald.

Fix You en The Scientist ontlopen elkaar weinig w.m.b. Maar door alle kritiek was het makkelijk kiezen. Ik wilde hier een heel betoog gaan voeren waarom en waardoor Fix You zoveel voor mij betekent, maar ik laat het toch maar achterwege. Te persoonlijk. Maar wel mijn absolute Coldplay nummer één.

Het is acht uur, dus nu de presentatie van the Greatest Hits of Coldplay:

Overigens zou Arabesque van het recentere Coldplay album Everyday Life wel mijn top 10 hebben gehaald. Maar die haalde helaas net de finale niet.

Had je mij 15 jaar geleden naar mijn favoriete groep gevraagd had ik wellicht Coldplay geantwoord. Ik hoor ze nog steeds heel graag, vooral de singles uit het eerste decennium van de 21e eeuw dan. In de finale zijn al mijn favorieten present, alleen Swallowed in the Sea had ik er nog graag bijgehad. Een favoriet nummer van Coldplay heb ik eigenlijk nooit gehad, m'n top 4 vind ik gelijkwaardig en de rest zit er niet ver achter.

Ik las hier eerder dat Fix You itt het nog eerdere werk niet "troostend" zou zijn. Gek, dat is een woord wat ik juist erg van toepassing vind.

Het is een mooie lijst geworden. Enigszins pijnlijk dat het Coldplay al vele jaren niet meer lukt nummers te produceren die hier op waardering kunnen rekenen. Gelukkig zijn de eerste drie albums van zo'n enorme klasse dat een top 10 met alleen maar topnummers zo te maken is. Alleen White Shadows ontbreekt helaas.
