Ik kan me van 2006 weinig herinneren op muzikaal gebied. Dit was ook een heel hectisch jaar voor Eddie (nieuwe baan, huis gekocht. dat soort dingen). Er zijn me van dat jaar maar twee platen echt blijven hangen Come Clarity en Satyricons 'Now, Diabolical' verder nog best wat leuke platen van oa. Venom, Slayer, Hammerfall en Iron Maiden maar die ontstijgen voor mij niet de grijze middenmoot.

Ik heb 2 perfecte scores staan voor 2006. Tool, die welke genoeg nog niet genoemd is. En Cult of Luna, de band die mij hoogstpersoonlijk de "extreme" metal insleepte met haar beste album, dat al sinds ik mijn eerste top 10 op MusicMeter invulde de tweede plek daarin verdedigt.

Verder is er nog een hoop goeds gebeurd in 2006, ook Devin Townsend was weer actief met het verrassend leuke The New Black van Strapping Young lad (heb ik ook op 4,5*), en Synchestra van zijn Devin Townsend Band. Mastodon, Lamb of God, Isis... mooie namen, die zonder Cult of Luna ook een serieuze kans zouden hebben gehad.

Geen Tool?!? OK ik heb hem ook niet als winnaar maar ik had toch wel verwacht dat iemand hem zou noemen.

Fantastisch album, ik heb hem onlangs weer beluisterd en verhoogd naar vijf sterren!

...maar Cult of Luna, daar kunnen ze wat mij persoonlijk betreft niet aan tippen. In een minder jaar had Tool met gemak de eerste plek gescoord.

Het ging bij mij tussen Ahab, Tool en Cult of Luna. Schitterend album inderdaad!

Cult of Luna is voor mij de topper van dit jaar, maar Tool zit daar heel dicht achter. Andere metalalbums uit 2006 waar ik graag naar luister:

Wow, wat een lijst.

Cult of Luna kende ik niet. Vanzelfsprekend ben ik nu aan het luisteren, en ik snap die vier stemmen eigenlijk niet.

Dat hadden er meer moeten zijn! Schitterend. Meeslepend, het kruipt onder je huid. Die vocalen zullen niet bij iedereen in de smaak vallen, maar zeker met koptelefoon is dit top.

Een jaar waar ik vrij levendige muzikale herinneringen aan heb omdat ik rond die periode metal begon te luisteren, nu dus zo'n 15 jaar geleden. Geen toeval dat ik me in dat jaar ook op MuMe meldde. Mijn stem gaat naar het Nederlandse Sinister dat een van mijn absolute favoriete death metal albums afleverde. Andere topalbums uit 2006 komen op naam van Iron Maiden, Moonspell, Satyricon, Korpiklaani, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Ancient Rites en In Flames.

Voor de winnaar van 2006 mag er opnieuw gestemd worden, aangezien twee albums met vier stemmen gezamenlijk de eerste plaats delen...
