Ik wilde eerst op Individual Thought Patterns stemmen, maar die snaredrum staat me soms echt tegen. Dat terwijl Bloody Kisses echt geweldig klinkt.

Verrassende tussenstand voor me. Nog geen punten voor Life of Agony, TON op kop... en tot mijn verrassing ook drie punten voor My Dying Bride. Dat is een van mijn favoriete bands, maar je moet ervan houden... De sound op ITP stoort mij niet echt, trouwens. Maar ik snap wel wat Kill_illuminati bedoelt.

Voor mij bevestigt het lijstje vooral dat er in 1993 nog weinig interessants gebeurde op metal gebied.

Matig metal jaar voor mij. Naast Type O weinig platen waar ik echt wat mee heb. Chaos AD is nooit zo mijn ding geweest. Ook met Icon heb ik nooit echt veel gehad.
Het is geen metal, maar uit 1993 wil ook zeker Black Sunday van Cyprus Hill niet onvermeld laten. Binnen de metalen wereld waar ik me in vertoefde was dit op miraculeuze wijze een heel populaire plaat.

Veel goeds op gebied van metalen hardcore (Ringworm, Earth Crisis), ook goeie sludgeplaten (Crowbar, Eyehategod) en een van mijn favoriete blackmetalplaten (Immortal), maar de overwinning gaat nipt naar Life of Agony.

Leuk om tussendoor te lezen hoe mensen deze jaren ervaren. De donkere, atmosferische metal sprak me vanaf 1993 enorm aan. Klassieke elementen helemaal. Ik ben opgevoed met klassieke muziek, ik hoorde niets anders. Ja, en country, Slim Whitman o.a. Trauma's.
Maar goed, mijn kennismaking met metal viel samen met de opkomst van allerlei substromingen. Icon vond ik van meet af aan fantastisch en nog steeds. Donker, meeslepend en sfeervol. De zang van Holmes erbij. Het vroegere werk van PL leerde ik pas vanaf 1996 kennen. My Dying Bride is ook zo'n band. Moonspell en de vroege Anathema horen er ook bij.

Progrock en progmetal kwamen ook op in deze tijd. Shadow Gallery, Enchant, Everon, DT uiteraard... Ook mijn ding. Vanaf 1993 ben ik al fan van Dream Theater. Awake wordt mijn album in 1994.

Deze jaren spreken mij dus wel aan, maar ik kan me heel goed voorstellen dat je deze jaren niets vindt als je houdt van wat meer traditionelere heavy metal. Corrigeer me als ik het fout heb, maar er waren niet zo veel goede releases op dat vlak. Ik ken er maar weinig. De 'gevestigde namen' verging het in elk geval niet goed of veranderden van koers. Megadeth kwam met het veel softere, toegankelijke Youthanasia aanzetten, de beste jaren van Metallica waren voorbij en Iron Maiden raakte (naar later bleek tijdelijk) zijn iconische zanger kwijt... Sepultura... Nou, over wat er met die band gebeurde rond deze tijd, zijn op deze site pagina's volgeschreven... En Slayer... Ik vind Divine Intervention nog best te pruimen, maar de albums werden er daarna niet beter op.
