Lastig, lastig. Was het Phantom Lord geweest, dan was ik voor Metallica gegaan. Was het die liveversie geweest die Apollo plaatste, ook. Ik vind 'Holy Diver' natuurlijk ook een dijk van een klassieker en Ronnie de beste metalzanger ooit. Maar toch, er kleeft voor mij een klein bijsmaakje aan dit nummer.

Want hoe gaaf ook, het nummer bleek een sjabloon te worden voor bijna al zijn muziek die hierna zou volgen. Waar de kracht en kwaliteit van zijn stem terecht tot legendarische proporties werd verheven bij Rainbow en Black Sabbath, daar begon ik metaalmoeheid te horen in de uniforme, soms zelfs generieke sound van de band Dio (hoe sterk sommige songs op de eerste twee platen en 'Dream Evil' ook moge zijn). Ronnie deed zijn stem te kort met te inwisselbare composities.
Toevallig (of niet?) hetzelfde probleem wat Dio-epigoon Jorn Lande ook heeft.
En dat gevoel speelt op de achtergrond een beetje mee als ik naar dit nummer luister.

Enfin, hoop gelul. Aangezien ik vermoed dat Metallica met nog wel meer nummers in deze finale-finale staat en Dio (de band) niet, ga ik evenzogoed toch voor Maestro Corna .

Zeer indrukwekkende statistiek. Heel erg benieuwd hoe deze twee eindbazen het tegenover elkaar zullen doen in de battles.


What the fuck is hier gebeurd. Winnaar tot daar aan toe, maar dubbele finaleplaatsen... En dan te bedenken dat o.a. 'Anthems...' van Emperor ook in 1997 uitkwam.




Verder nog een paar 'bijzondere' winnaars, ben benieuwd.

Ja lekker bezig AOVV, bedankt! Ik vind het ook zeer frappant die 1997-finale, ik heb niks met Dimmu Borgir.

Prachtige en gevarieerde lijst, ook met tal van onverwachte (semi)-finalisten. Er zit zelfs een band tussen waar ik nog nooit van gehoord heb, dat had ik zeker niet verwacht.

Ik vraag me nu ook af wanneer ik inhaakte met dit spelletje. Was dat ook toevallig tijdens de 1983-editie?

Ja, dat heb ik zowaar toch nog goed onthouden. Dit was volgens mij überhaupt mijn allereerste post op dit forum. Ik val jullie dus nu al ruim drie jaar lang lastig met mijn gewauwel.

Je gewauwel wordt nog steeds ten zeerste geapprecieerd, EvilDrSmith.

En best eens wat Dio betreft eigenlijk, maar bij Rainbow en Sabbath had ie wel een hors catégorie gitarist/genie aan zijn zijde natuurlijk..

Die 1997-editie is achteraf bekeken wel hallucinant ja, toen ik door de topics ging ter voorbereiding las ik nog dat ABDrums Emperor had genomineerd en vurig op de zegepraal hoopte. Nou, lekker puh dus, het werd weer Dieter (denk ik)

Tsja ik blijf het nog altijd schandalig vinden dat Emperor er toen niet met de eindzege vandoor is gegaan. Wat mij betreft had een nominatie van Anthems zelfs een outsider voor deze lichting geweest... Maar goed, het democratische proces heeft zich voltrokken en de plebs hebben gesproken, ik heb me er slechts aan te houden!

Ik ben de komende paar dagen nog vrij inactief trouwens ivm vakantie, dus ik vertrouw op jullie metalen expertise om de juiste nummers van punten te voorzien (hoewel dat dus bij de 1997-editie gruwelijk mis is gegaan)

De "minst bekende" song in het volledige deelnemersveld is afkomstig van een album dat zelfs geen enkele (!) stem heeft gekregen. Dat is dan ook die enige band waar ik nog nooit van gehoord had. Hoe die in hemelsnaam het zover heeft geschopt lijkt mij dan ook een klein wonder. Te meer nu ik het nummer heb geluisterd en denk: tja, best leuk & lekker hoor, maar zó goed nu ook zeker weer niet.

Niet al te gek gedaan, ik heb er wel proberen over waken dat elke ladder minstens 1 winnaar (W) maar niet meer dan 4 bevat, max. 2 nummers van dezelfde band/artist en max. 2 nummers uit hetzelfde jaar in 1 ladder. Elke kemel hieromtrent neemt de jury op zich onder het mom van imperfectie.

Ik stel voor dat elke ladder 48 uur blijft staan, en aangezien jullie allemaal positieve loebassen zijn die graag puntjes uitdelen, hoe angstaanjagend jullie er verder ook uitzien met die kwade blik op het vol corpse paint gekliederde gelaat en een directe lijn met Satan, mag je elk nummer belonen volgens deze verdeelsleutel:

Jôh, ik heb helemaal gemist - of ik was het vergeten, óf ik had het niet goed begrepen - dat we deze finale-finale met ladders gaan spelen. Hoe leuk en fijn!
Uitstekende opzet, weldoordachte overwegingen en prima verdeelsleutel: ik kom bijna complimenten te kort. Ik heb d'r zin in!

EDIT: gewoon niet goed gelezen, zie ik. Poep in mijn ogen. Enfin, zolang ik dat maar niet in mijn oren heb.

Goeie genade, deze eerste ladder is al ontiegelijk lastig... En dan te bedenken dat er maar één winnaar tussen zit. Ach, de eerste 6 gaan sowieso door, dus het zijn nog geen alles bepalende keuzes. Wederom bedankt voor alle moeite en weloverwogen overwegingen, AOVV. Nog even een tag voor The_CrY om deel te nemen; ik zag je naam vroeger passeren, misschien heb je weer interesse?

Ik heb nooit eerder een ladder ingevuld, dus laat het mij weten als ik dit nu onhandig aanpak.

Ben ik gelukkig niet de enige die poep in zijn ogen heeft.

Enfin, mijn :"zin erin" gaat evenzogoed natuurlijk ook gepaard met frustratie, hoofdbrekens en moedeloze momenten: hoe in hemelsnaam te kiezen. Het is allemaal zo fantastisch en geweldig. En er is Pantera.

Opeth zou er met de winst vandoor gegaan zijn. Wat...een... epos.
Echter, er is toch een klein kritiekpuntje te verzinnen, want hoe oppermachtig en overweldigend en làng het nummer ook is: waarom dan zo'n "abrupt" eind? Dat had smaakvoller gekund. Daarom pikt Maiden de koppositie in. Ook vanwege een behoorlijke dosis jeugdsentiment. Er is geen lp in mijn leven waar ik zó naar uitgekeken heb als naar dit album (die helaas een tikje tegenviel (mede door dat gedrocht van 'Can I Play With Madness'), behalve Moonchild en dit magnifieke titelnummer).

Ik heb andere favoriete nummers van Overkills debuut ('Overkill' natuurlijk!), ik vind 'Rotten To The Core' best gaaf, maar toch misschien wel het minste nummer van de plaat.

Qua volgorde zie ik dat ik braaf de winnaar, de finalisten en daarna de halvefinalisten heb staan. Ik heb een gemiddelde metalsmaak.

Jarenlang het enige Iron Maiden nummer in de top 2000 van radio 2 staat mij toevallig bij. En verreweg het minste nummer van deze voor de rest geniale plaat.

En The_CrY is uiteraard meer dan welkom.
