Ha, ik heb The Cure ook niet in mijn lijstje. Radiohead wel, maar ook pas op plek 14.

Nogmaals Titmeister: goed werk!

Ik heb ze beiden wel in m'n lijstje, maar ik hoop wel dat het toch Radiohead gaat worden!

Als ik eerlijk ben hoop ik eigenlijk dat The Cure op Nr. 1 staat....

Ik had Radiohead op 1 en de Cure op 2, dusssssss...

The Cure was mijn nummero twee, Radiohead volgens mij 6 ofzo.. beide bijzonder mooie nummers op hun eigen manier

Radiohead had ik volgens mij op 2, erg mooi nummer. The Cure had ik er neit in, maar die kende ik ook nog niet. Nu wel dus, maar ik denk niet dat dat veel uit had gemaakt, ook al is A Forest wel een goed nummer.

Daar zijn we dan eindelijk: de ontknoping van de MuMe song top 100!

2. The Cure – A Forest 314 pt.

De band die de 2e plaats bezet is misschien wel de meest besproken van heel MusicMeter. The Cure werd in 1976 opgericht in Crawley (Groot-Brittannië) door Robert Smith, en is sindsdien uitgegroeid tot misschien wel de grootste new waveband aller tijden (al is dit een populair discussiepunt op het forum). Het album Seventeen Seconds uit 1980 was een baanbrekend album in die zin dat het eigenlijk het begin was van een gouden periode van The Cure. Het album heeft nog niet echt de zware sound van latere albums als Pornography en Faith, maar wordt desondanks gezien als een standaardwerk in de New Wave. Tevens was The Cure één van de eerste gothic bands, en een grote inspiratiebron voor vele bands van dezelfde en latere generaties. Het nummer A Forest was niet eens hun grootste hit, maar is wel hun bekendste nummer. Opvallend is dat A Forest juist het nummer was dat het langst zonder punten bleef, maar mede dankzij 13 nominaties achter elkaar opschoof van de achterhoede naar nummer 1. Deze positie verloren ze even aan Arcade Fire, herwonnen ze, maar uiteindelijk moet The Cure zich met 314 punten gewonnen geven en pakken ze de zilveren medaille in de MuMe song top 100.

Eind jaren ’80 richtten Thom Yorke en zijn companen de band On A Friday op. Al snel werd de naam, onder druk van de platenmaatschappij, veranderd in Radiohead, naar een nummer van de Talking Heads. Begin jaren ’90 liftte de band mee op de populaire britpop-golf, maar al gauw kwamen ze met hun eigen sound, om vervolgens te verworden tot de grootste rockband van de laatste 15 jaar. Elk nieuw album had zijn eigen innovatieve sound. The Bends uit 1995 was hun eerste stap van de britpop naar de experimentele muziek. De eerste single Just (You Do It to Yourself) werd door de conservatieve Britse dj’s beschouwd als een belediging voor de luisteraar. Maar dat de luisteraar het daar niet mee eens was, bleek wel uit de immense populariteit van het album, en de daaropvolgende albums. Het mooiste nummer van The Bends is waarschijnlijk toch wel Street Spirit (Fade Out). Het nummer is geïnspireerd door de roman The Famished Road van Ben Okri en heeft een betoverende melodie. Zoals Thom Yorke zelf omschreef: ‘Street Spirit is our purest song, but I didn't write it. It wrote itself. We were just its messengers; its biological catalysts.’
Dat ook op MusicMeter Radiohead heel populair is, valt alleen al af te zien aan het feit dat hun album OK Computer sinds jaar en dag op nummer 1 staat in de album top 250. In de MuMe top 100 finale stond Street Spirit (Fade Out) al vanaf het begin hoog, maar mede door 4 nummer 1 posities bij de laatste tien inzendingen, haalde het alle andere nummers en eindigde het met een ruime voorsprong eerste. En eerlijk is eerlijk, met 34 nominaties, 7 nummer 1 posities en een totaal van 357 punten kunnen we toch wel spreken van een terechte nummer 1.

Het is een mooie lijst geworden, stukken mooier dan de vele topzusenzo lijstjes die we ieder jaar weer krijgen te slikken van onze plaatselijke radioboeren in elk geval!

...winnaar inderdaad niet helemaal onverwacht natuurlijk...of toch wel, want bij de ontknoping van de MuMeLadder 2007 eind vorig jaar eindigden The End, Heroes en Wuthering Heights er nog boven.

(juist nog 1 vraagje: Wat als men 'The End' ipv 'Riders on the Storm gekozen had en 'Child in Time' ipv 'Smoke on the Water'?)

Fantastisch gedaan Titmeister. Echt heel mooi opgezet.

Child in Time had denk ik niet veel uitgemaakt....maar The End was wel een potentiele winnaar geweest, volgens mij heeft The End tot nu toe alle KO's al gewonnen waarin ie voorkwam...althans dat gevoel heb ik toch.

Voor MuMe begrippen een erg standaardlijstje. Helaas geen enkele soulhit in de top100 (dat klopt dus bij voorbaat al niet ). Verder leuk gedaan door Titmeister, en altijd leuk om mee te doen.

Ik heb de MuMeLadder 2007 eens naast de MuMe song top 100 gezet...toch wel een aantal heel opmerkelijke verschillen, ondanks dat na de eerste ronde vd MuMeLadder exact hetzelfde stemsysteem werd toegepast (battles van 4) en ook de top 16 (tegenover hier de top 25) dmv ingezonden stemlijstjes met een top 10 werden bepaald.
