Ik vind het gewoon leuk om elke twee à drie maanden een editie te organiseren. Het houdt me jong. En zolang dit topic maar blijft draaien hé! The Replacements worden wel mijn laatste editie van 2015, dan ben ik vijf keer geweest, is wel goed zo

ik heb veel artiesten waarvan ik benieuwd ben hoe erop gereageerd wordt. dan wacht ik in de hoop dat iemand dit deelt (met een van die artiesten) en zo niet, dan kom ik wel. zo ook nu met DS in sept.

Ik heb wel redelijk uit de top 4 van elk album lopen vissen hoor. Maar als voorbeeld: Calico Skies (34 stemmen) heb ik niet in de startlijst staan, Young Boy (24 stemmen) wel. Lijkt me toch best verdedigbaar?

Helaas geen toelichting, maar wel een woord van bewondering voor de gigantisch sterke jaren '90-output van deze band, die naast Lennon-McCartney in één persoon (Robert Pollard) over nóg een hele degelijke songschrijver beschikte genaamd Tobin Sprout. Quite an achievement.
Ohja, en dat de top-10 verplicht luistervoer moet worden voor de progrockers op deze site. Die duurt immers maar zo lang als een Yes-nummer.

Eigenlijk zouden mijn toelichtingen bij al deze nummers ongeveer hetzelfde zijn, want ze zijn allemaal catchy as hell, hebben allemaal een geweldige melodie en zanglijn, en zijn in hun knulligheid zo effectief dat het beste van GBV luisteren zonder glimlach op je gezicht toch eerder een zeldzaamheid is. En op I Am A Tree na is elk nummer voorbij voor je het weet, terwijl ze er toch in geslaagd zijn een sterke indruk na te laten. Knap hoor, Robert Pollard!

Jammer van mijn geheide nummer 1, maar wat een pareltjes bleven er over! Net even te weinig deelmedemeners, waardoor de nominatie en eliminatie met een paar voorkeuren gepiept was.
Goed, GBV. Bijzondere levensloop van deze band, de lo-fi start, de omslag naar meer geproduceerd, de stop, de herstart, maar altijd weer die briljante ideeën. Zeker niet in elke song, maar wel veel. Soms (enigszins) uitgewerkt, soms razendsnel op tape (of whatever) gekwakt.
Pollard hoeft niet meer vemeld, die is evident, Sprout is genoemd, waarbij ik dit album nog onder de aandacht wil brengen.
