Dat heeft dan vooral met jouw definitie van New Wave te maken. Het nummer staat op menig verzamel-album aangaande New Wave, zoals bv. deze. Jij bent misschien meer een liefhebber van de Post-Punk stroming, maar New Wave is gewoon een vrij breed genre (waar synthpop zoals Don't You Want Me onder past).

Ik vind Don't You Want Me misschien wel het beste nummer hier, maar voor mijn gevoel is synthpop toch iets anders. Ik weet wel dat op een gegeven moment bijna alle muziek new wave werd genoemd, maar ik houd liever toch een iets minder ruime definitie aan.

Interessant, want ik ken dat gevoel.
Ik heb het namelijk ook bij Maid of Orleans waar de melodie primeert.

Jij vindt toch dat Maid of Orleans 4 punten mag krijgen.
Waar zit volgens jou dan het verschil met Don't You Want Me?

Ondertussen geef je wel gewoon punten aan Ghost Town. Van mij mag je, maar ik vind het nogal moeilijk te rijmen met wat je hier zegt.

Ik bekijk het per nummer, niet per artiest. Specials zijn een 2 tone ska-band, maar dit is toch geen uptempo ska? Zijn zoveel new wave groepen geweest die met reggae en ska speelden, o.a. The Slits, The Police en The Pop Group. Bovendien is Ghost Town ook een sociaal-kritisch nummer, kun je van Don't You Want Me toch niet echt zeggen.


Is grotendeels gevoelsmatig, Maid of Orleans klinkt toch een stuk zwaarder. Don't You Want Me klinkt mij in de oren alsof het een cover van een vergeten Motown-hit uit 1965 had kunnen zijn. Voor mij is dat gewoon pure popmuziek. Misschien dat de albumcontext ook meespeelt. Het album van OMD is toch een stuk soberder dan dat van HL.

Don't You Want Me doet mij gevoelsmatig ook altijd erg denken aan Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You van Franki Valli. En dat staat toch wel erg ver van new wave af.

Ai.....OMD is mijn 'angstwinnaar'.... (hoort voor mijn gevoel trouwens meer bij '82) en Ghosttown, al eerder gezegd muzikaal ...niet boeiend. Ook Don't You Want Me heeft voor mij minder een postpunk/wave gevoel, net zoals die van OMD.
