Het wordt bespeeld door zijn bouwer, Max Crook ("Maximilian"). De track werd #1 in de US en de UK. In de Top 2000 stond hij vorig jaar op plaats 557, daarvoor op 455, 812, 1568. Na drie jaar hier in de Top 5 te hebben gestaan handhaafd hij zich nu nog maar net in het linker rijtje. Pop.

Met deze track neemt de uitvoerende afstand van zijn Country-achtergrond en vestigt zich hij zich in de popmuziek. De muziekbranche was niet blij met de lengte, meer dan zes minuten. Uiteindelijk werd het toch uitgegeven. Niet echt van dit werk nee. Maar het album Elvis in Memphis vind ik schitterend. En (Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame en (You're the) Devil in Disguise die hier meespelen vind ik ook sterk.

De winnaar van vorig jaar is een protestsong over racisme. De auteur werd geinspireerd door Bob Dylan's "Blowing In The Wind" en de onvermijdelijke persoonlijke ervaringen. In eerste instantie durfde hij zijn carière niet op het spel te zetten, maar uiteindelijk maakte hij toch dit juweeltje. Het balt al het lijden van de zwarte bevolking onder achterstelling in de Verenigde Staten samen in dit lied, met de Job-achtige overtuiging dat hier eindelijk een einde aan gaat komen. Het prijkt op nummer 12 in "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". Rhythm & Blues
