Ook vanuit mijn kant heel veel dank voor blur8 en 123poetertjes. Ondanks dat ik heel het jaar heb meegespeeld heb ik geen jaarlijst. Ik heb mijn lijsten twee of drie keer omgegooid en heb mede daardoor mijn data niet op orde.

Ik weet nog niet zeker wat ik volgend jaar doe: ik vind het ontzettend leuk om nieuwe muziek te horen maar ervaar het vertalen van deze muziek naar een wekelijkse hitlijst soms als een crime. Ik vraag me wel eens af hoe jullie dat doen. Ach, wie weet neem ik het ook allemaal wel te serieus.

hoe doen jullie dat..........Ik heb ook bewust een korte lijst van 20 nummers . Positie is een gevoelskwestie . Wat vindt ik nu llekkerste om naar te luisteren. 3 nieuwe releases er in. 3 doorgeluisterde songs eruit. nummers die ik beter ben gaan vinden in de herbeluistering laten steigen. daalt de rest vanzelf de lijst uit.
Klaar. id. niet te moeilijk.

Ik denk er ook niet te lang over na. Ik heb mijn lijst in een excel en elke week voeg ik daar weer een nieuwe eerste kolom aan toe waarin ik de nummers op de juiste volgorde zet. Nummers die me nog veel doen blijven hoog, nummers waar ik op uitgeluisterd raak zakken vanzelf weg. Verder aan het eind van de week nog wat nieuwe favorieten erin. Het op volgorde zetten duurt niet langer dan 5 minuten per week.

Enfin, ook hier is het jaarlijstjestijd. Ooit ben ik hier begonnen met een top 20, maar dat is nu alweer jaren een top 40. Desalniettemin tel ik alleen de punten van de top 20. Dit zijn de 40 nummers die dit jaar binnenkwamen en het beste scoorden (de schuingedrukte nummers staan nog genoteerd):

Sinds ik in 2004 startte met het maken van een jaarlijkse album top 10 is Bruce Springsteen overigens diegene die er het vaakst in voorkwam, in 5 van de 16 top tiens stond hij met een album! In 2012 werd hij 1 met Wrecking Ball. De nummer 1 van vorig jaar (Evolution), dat is Disturbed, haalden de Top 10 4x. Er zijn 6 bands, die 3 keer in de TOP 10 stonden. Tool is de nu de enige band, die 2 keer op 1 stond, het waren overigens ook hun enige 2 albums in die periode!

Daar gaan we.
Met stukkies van AstroStart, Mausie, SBube 123poetertjes & me. Naar verwachting lekker onregelmatige drops. kijken waar we uitkomen. kan best doorlopen tot in het nieuwe jaar.
De stats zijn nog niet beschikbaar maar zo in de staart van de lijst had je minimaal 650 punten nodig, opgespaard in minimaal 5 weken gezamenlijke. Maar voor het totaal is elke lijst gegeteld.

123Poetertjes: Kieran Hebden was lekker productief in 2019 met Jade & Solo.. Het is weer echt een typishe Four Tetsong: organisch is fris, zelfs al doet ie dit al een tijdje. Ik heb het idee dat deze paradijsvogel er ook wel erg lekker op zou kunnen gaan. Met een duur van drie minuten hoeft hij zijn dansje ook niet eens retelang uit te rekken.:
Panjoe: Met Teenage Birdsong grijpt hij weer een beetje terug naar zijn triphoproots, zoals hij op zijn vorige album ook al deed met eerste single Two Thousand and Seventeen. Zoals we van Kieran gewend zijn productioneel uitzonderlijk, en de organisch klinkende instrumenten die hij uit de kast trekt passen er ook weer heerlijk bij.

99 Japanese House - Something Has To Change (652,5)

AstroStart : Het stemgeluid van de 24-jarige Britse Amber Bain is direct herkenbaar. Ze maakt fijne droompopliedjes met een frisse elektronische sound. Dit jaar kwam ze met haar debuutalbum met kneiters van nummers als We Talk All Time ("We don't fuck anymore, but we talk all the time, so its fine"), Maybe You're The Reason en Follow My Girl. Something Has To Change kregen we geserveerd als toetje: geen goedkope dame blanche van de lokale Griek, maar eerder een pittig kaasplankje met een glaasje port. Pech in de liefde, gebroken harten, de trein terug naar huis: er moet iets veranderen. Wat niet mag veranderen is de aanwezigheid van Amber in de MuMeAfrekening.

98 Parra For Cuva - Cupa Cupa (655)

Mausie: Deze exotische housetrack kwam eind 2018 uit. Kleurrijke klanken vullen de lucht en in een onverstaanbare taal wordt er over de stuwende synths en diepe bassen heen gezongen. Een knallende floorfiller die menig club op zijn kop zal hebben gezet.

97 Black Country, New Road – Sunglasses (655,5)

Blur8: Direct al zn voorbeeld : geheel over het hoofd gezien. En onterecht blijkt nu weer. Net zoals Squid een mix van Punk, Jazz & Rock, met Trompet of ander koper. Niet ieders kopje thee. Je moet er even in doorluisteren, maar dat zijn op termijn de lekkerste.

96 FIELDS - Border Boys (655,5)

Sbube: Ik heb dit liedje leren kennen door de MuMeAfrekening en ik werd er meteen door gegrepen, ik kende deze band uit de buurt van Dublin niet, maar de tekst is blijkbaar geïnspireerd door een verhaal van de grootvader van songwriter Seán O'Brien ten tijde van de 'troubles' in (Noord-)Ierland in de jaren 50, prachtig gevoelig, en zeker ook actueel in het afgelopen jaar, waar de grens in Ierland het grote struikelpunt voor Brexit leek. De trompetjes zijn zo heerlijk en de zin 'The border boys beat the drum of their fathers' geeft zo mooi weer, dat je geschiedenis niet zo gemakkelijk kunt afschudden.

Blur8: Spotify ontdekking. Ierse melancholische, sferische folkrock met raakvlakken richting Bear’s Den en The Antlers Als de blazers aan het einde inkicken is menig Afrekenaar al ingepakt.

AstroStart : "Herrie", zeggen mijn collega's als ik The Cleaner instart. Hoe kan iemand deze plaat nu herrie noemen? Ik kan daar met mijn hoofd niet bij. Funkier dan dit wordt het niet, zeker als het om de extended versie van The Cleaner van deze nieuwe band uit Brighton gaat. Leadzanger (en drummer) Ollie Judge heeft een rauwe punksound, maar dat maakt van dit nummer een onvergetelijke ervaring. In het nummer zingt de band over het leven van een schoonmaker: "I'm the cleaner, but you don't even know my name". Dit jaar stond Squid in Roodkapje Rotterdam, maar het is een kwestie van tijd voor deze band in grotere zalen staat.

Blur8: Zag en hoorde ze dit jaar al 2 keer. En de 2de keer al positief gegroeid ten opzicht van paar maanden daarvoor. De combi punk & Jazz is super tegen de draads en fris tegelijk. Op naar debuutalbum in 2020 zeg ik.

94. Elbow - White Noise White Heat (658)

SBube: Elbow kwam terug met hun karakteristieke geluid in 2019 en we zullen ze nog vaker tegenkomen in onze TOP 100. Dit nummer gaat over de Grenfell Tower fire in 2017, waarbij 72 mensen om het leven kwamen. Het nummer is met name een aanklacht richting een maatschappij, die dit soort dingen laat gebeuren, volgens Guy Garvey himself: 'the white noise of lies, the white heat of injustice'. Of het iets verandert, dat is moeilijk te zeggen, maar het leverde in ieder geval een pakkend nummer op.

93 Weyes Blood - Andromeda (660,5)

Mausie: Weyes Blood bracht met Titanic Rising een sfeervolle plaat uit. Folk geïnjecteerd met een vleugje pop. Andromeda is een van de prijsnummers van die plaat. Een dromerig nummer wat ook zo zou kunnen doorgaan voor een kersttrack. Een volle productie biedt de perfecte aankleding voor de fenomenale zang van Natalie Mering.

92. Duncan Laurence – Arcade (662)

Toch super grappig hoe dit is gegaan. Al op 12 maart durfde SanderT Duncan in de top20 te zetten.
Daarna iamsander . Is EuroSong indie genoeg voor de Afrekening? Je ziet: Alles mag, Alles kan.
Als we er maar gezamenlijk in geloven. Pas na de overwinning komt ie dan ook de Gezamenlijke binnen.
Wat een lef ? Watjes ......

91. Boy Harsher - Come Closer (662,5)

Hoe gevarieerd wil je de Afrekening hebben.
Ook Dance met succes in de lijst. En let maar op dit is niet de hoogst genoteerde……

90 Underworld - Appleshine (Film Edit) (666,5)

Mausie: We konden in 2019 niet om Underworld heen. De ene na de andere technobanger werd op ons afgevuurd. Appleshine (Film Edit) deed het erg goed op MusicMeter, ook buiten dit topic. Een lang uitgerekte, filmische technoplaat zonder echte climax. Indringende techno die je opslokt en in een trance brengt. De bezwerende vocals dragen hier ook aan bij en onderscheiden Underworld van de concurrentie.

89. ISLAND - Just That Time Of The Night (670,5)

Blur8: Dat ISLAND in deze lijst staat, zal waarschijnlijk voor de helft van mijn eigen stemmen komen. Kwam dit Londense kwartet 2 jaar geleden bij toeval tegen als Supportact.van andere band. En wist het vrij snel. Voorprogram beter dan de hoofdact. Dit is het soort Britse PopRock dat speciaal voor mijn oren gemaakt is. Dijk van een stem, lekkere gitaren, Strakke songs. Ook niet onbelangrijk: veel te aardige gasten, Die van elk optreden een feest maken. En ik wil ze best even helpen. 2020 komt Album #2. Dus binnenkort meer.......

88 Gang Starr & J. Cole - Family and Loyalty (677)

Mausie : Gang Starr bestaat eigenlijk niet meer, want Guru is in 2010 overleden en dus blijft DJ Premier alleen over. Echter lag er nog aardig wat materiaal van Guru op de planken en daarmee kon er toch nieuw materiaal worden uitgebracht. Op Family and Loyalty schotelt DJ Premier ons een kraakheldere productie voor, die gebouwd is rondom een verslavende pianosample. J. Cole doet ook een duit in het zakje en samen zorgen zij voor een van de meeste memorable hiphoptracks van 2019.

Dit was een van die hoofdpijn-dossiers in de lijst om te matchen. nog een wonder dat ze de eindstreep hebben gehaald. Niet te doen:

87. White Lies - Hurt my heart (677)

SBube: De comeback van White Lies is eigenlijk al van 2018, toen ze met het imho ietwat saaie 'Time to give' zelfs de TOP 2000 opnieuw bestormden, ik vond eigenlijk alle andere singles van het album beter. De band denkt tegenwoordig ook niet meer in albums blijkbaar, daarom nu ook al de snelle release van deze non-album single, die tevens live werd gespeeld bij de concerttour ter ere van hun 10-jarig bestaan, waarvan ik onlangs ook een show mocht bezoeken in Maastricht, prima optreden. Het nummer is typisch voor hun 'doom & gloom'-sound, misschien ietsje meer gitaar en de stem van Harry McVeigh heeft nog weinig van zijn kracht verloren.

Mausie: Hurt My Heart is een bonustrack van het album Five en werd pas maanden later uitgebracht. Het is mij een raadsel waarom dit geen reguliere track is, want dit hoort bij het beste werk van White Lies. Zo dachten er meer over getuige de notering in deze top 100. Een volledig dichtgesmeerde productie vol synths en gitaren en een refrein om mee te brullen.

86. Destroyer - Crimson Tide (679,5)

AstroStart : De Canadees Den Bejar maakt eigenzinnige donkere synth-rock. In Crimson Tide horen we een lang monoloog over allerlei bizarre gebeurtenissen, waarbij Den Bejar in het ziekenhuis ligt, een uit de hand gelopen begrafenis van een "rich runaway" bijwoont en uiteindelijk in Hotel Parallel belandt. Op 31 januari 2020 komt het nieuwe album van Destroyer uit: Have We Met.

85. Hot Chip - Hungry Child (681,5)

Panjoe: Hot Chip, een band rondom producer Joe Goddard en Alexis Taylor, is het voor mij in grote lijnen meestal nét niet, maar ze kiezen meestal wel hun beste tracks als singles. Hungry Child is weer een gave pop/house plaat zoals we ze graag horen. De enorm meta video is trouwens ook erg leuk bedacht.
