Lifelike naar de eerste plek, ben wel redelijk verslaafd aan de italo-synths van Lifelike. Paar maanden terug haalde een blog dat ik volg deze [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_BZ0UP9Qt0]video [/quote] uit 2007 weer eens in herinnering en die blijft ook briljant. Daarna ben ik eigenlijk nooit meer zo verslaafd geweest aan iets van Lifelike tot aan deze Sally Shapiro-remix. Moet het origineel overigens ook maar eens opzoeken, want eerder Shapiro-werk beviel me ook erg goed.
- de hoogste nieuwe past er eigenlijk wel goed bij; ook muziek voor een neon-verlichte dansvloer, ook richting italo/nu-disco, maar nu met onderkoelde i.p.v. poeslieve vocalen.
- Chibi Ichigo komt weer eens met iets dat eigenlijk alleen in België gemaakt kan worden: rauw, speels en ergens tussen Techotronic en Front 242, tussen hiphouse en minimal wave.
- RAYE zal Genesis wel nooit meer overtreffen, maar ook haar meer verhalende soul-pop kan ik goed hebben. Deze is van een film geloof ik, en er staat ook al een tijdje een song van een serie in mijn tiplijst, en ook nog een reguliere single. Ze is in ieder geval flink actief.
- Weer eens een Peaking Lights-plaat, dat was al even geleden nadat ze lang vaste klant bij mij waren. Dubby kosmische disco met lekker veel echo's.
- Letrux & Nouvella sluiten ten slotte de rijen met een fijne indieplaat met tropicália-vibe. Zwoel, langzaam. Eigenlijk een soort laatste stuiptrekking van de zomer.

De schimmels van Wolf Alice zijn nog steeds niet beschimmeld: de voorsprong op de concurrentie is nog altijd ruim. Maar die concurrentie komt er wel met rasse schreden aan gegaloppeerd. 'Azimuth' (je weet wel: de hoek met het noorden, gemeten over het oosten) entert met spoed de top 3 en ook Tame Impala (samen met die wolf en die schimmels hebben we al een aardige dierentuin bij elkaar) heeft haast. Tel daar nog eens de hoogste nieuwe op plaats 11 bij op en Wolf Alice mag zich al langzaamaan zorgen gaan maken...

NEW:
11. Miley Cyrus - Secrets (ft. Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood)
Zet Miley naast Lindsey Buckingham en Mick Fleetwood en ze klinkt meteen als Stevie Nicks. 'Secrets' is een verjaardagscadeautje van Miley aan haar vader, Billy Ray 'achy breaky' Cyrus. "Het beste verjaardagscadeau ooit!" zo schreef Billy Ray enthousiast op z'n Insta (maar dan in het Engels). En een cadeautje waar de rest van de mensheid ook van kan genieten. Want zeg nou zelf: snakte niet iedereen na 22 jaar radiostilte naar nieuwe FM-muziek? En zeg nou zelf: had je dat sowieso nog verwacht, nadat Buckingham zeven jaar geleden uit de band werd gekickt en Christine McVie drie jaar geleden overleed? 'Secrets' klinkt als een ouderwetse Fleetwood Mac-track. Niet een wereldtopper als 'Go Your Own Way' of 'Dreams', maar eerder een goed te verteren track als 'Gypsy' of 'Seven Wonders'. En dat terwijl de heren Buckingham en Fleetwood alleen via hun instrumenten -gitaar en drums dus- bij de track betrokken zijn, want zowel de compositie als de productie komt op naam van Miley en haar crew. En tóch... en tóch... tóch hoop je bij het horen van 'Secrets' op nóg meer nieuwe Fleetwood Mac-muziek.

16. Kelly Lee Owens - ASCEND
Dit is typisch weer wat in bepaalde kringen beschouwd wordt als een echte 'banger'. Ik associeer dat altijd met Rob de Nijs, maar dat komt omdat ik het verkeerd uitspreek. Kelly Lee Owens blijft ondertussen maar hits scoren; allemaal bangers. Begin dit jaar reikte ze nog tot plaats 3 met de banger 'Dreamstate' (haar grootste hit in de MuMeAfrekenings-geschiedenis en net zo hoog geëindigd als haar debuut-banger 'Luminous Spaces') en inmiddels komt er alweer een nieuwe banger binnenknallen. Volgende maand brengt Owens een kakelverse EP uit en dit 'Ascend' is daarvan de welkome voorloper. De Welshe producer/ zangeres begon haar werkende leven als verpleegster, maar draait gelukkig alweer een jaartje of acht mee in de music scene. En ze stijgt naar steeds grotere hoogten: in 2021 bracht ze de theme song uit voor het WK damesvoetbal in Australië, in 2023 was ze de suppport act voor de tournee van Depeche Mode en in 2025 scoort ze haar achtste MuMe-hit; wat een banger!

17. GusGus - New Arrivals (ft. Bngrboy)
'GusGus kom naar hus want de koei'n staan op springen', zongen wij in vroegere jaren al. Ondanks de titel zijn de dame en heren van GusGus dus al lang geen 'New Arrivals' meer. Als ik zeg dat de namen van de bandleden Daníel Ágúst Haraldsson, Birgir Þórarinsson en Margrét Rán Magnúsdóttir zijn, dan mag jij raden uit welk land ze komen. Bijgestaan door Bngrboy (het zou mij niks verbazen als dat staat voor BangerBoy, maar zijn echte naam is Marteinn Hjartarson, een landgenoot) positioneert de groep zich weer tussen '80's synths en '90's rave. GusGus liet 'New Arrivals' vorig jaar in première gaan in de Eldborg-zaal van het Harpa-concertgebouw in Reykjavik, dus zo nieuw is deze arrival nou ook weer niet. Het is afkomstig van een EP met dezelfde titel, waar nog twee van zulke bangers op te vinden zijn.

18. IST IST - I Am The Fear
GusGus, Ist Ist, krijgen we nou ook nog nieuwe singles van Duran Duran of Talk Talk te horen? Anyway, voor een snoeiharde postpunk-banger uit Manchester moet je bij Ist Ist zijn. De band rond zanger Adam Houghton noemde zich elf jaar geleden oorspronkelijk Das Ist, maar vond dat teveel Industrial klinken, dus werd de groepsnaam aangepast tot Ist Ist. Mag dus op z'n Duits uitgesproken worden. De band moet het blijkbaar hebben van z'n optredens, want de heren hadden al vier live-albums uitgebracht voordat hun studiodebuutplaat eindelijk het levenslicht zag. Maar toen begon het in de MuMeAfrekening ook goed te lopen, met vier fraaie hits tot gevolg. 'I Am The Fear' is de vijfde, en de mannen laten de synths en gitaren weer knallen. Er schijnt ergens een nieuw album aan te komen, al zijn releasedatum en titel nog niet bekend. Hopelijk klinkt het allemaal net zo heftig lekker als deze voorloper!

26. Art School Girlfriend - L.Y.A.T.T.
In de categorie 'dansbare muziek van een vrouwelijke solo-artiest uit Wales' heb ik, naast Kelly Lee Owens, ook nog Art School Girlfriend voor je. Polly Mackey, zo heet ze in het echie, startte veertien jaar gelden in de muziek in een shoegaze-band, Deaf Club. Vier jaar later hield dat op, waarna Polly als Art School Girlfriend solo doorging. Niet dat ze meteen van de muziek kon leven; vanaf 2016 runde ze ook nog een paar jaar een queer boekenwinkel in het Engelse kustplaatsje Margate, waar ze toen woonde. Dat hield zo'n beetje op tijdens coronatijd, maar daar werd Mackey niet veel banger van. In tegendeel: vanaf toen werd de muziek het hoofdbestanddeel in haar leven. Inmiddels is ze gevestigd in Londen en heeft daar ook een maandelijkse radioshow, waarin ze zich focust op ambient. En dat is terug te horen op haar nieuwe single en MuMe-debuuthit, 'L.Y.A.T.T.', een single die zowel sferisch als dansbaar (of in ieder geval: meewiegbaar) is en waarin shoegaze- en dance-elementen samenkomen. Een single die wellicht opgedragen is aan haar vrouw en collega-muzikante Marika Hackman, want het betekent natuurlijk, dat kun je horen, 'Love You All The Time'.

29. Oscar Farrell - Dream Therapy (ft. Sampha)
We gaan dansend de MuMeAfrekening uit met de klanken van de Londense producer Oscar Farrell en het kenmerkende stemgeluid van stadsgenoot Sampha Sisay. Farrell is helemaal vers in de MuMeAfrekening, maar Sampha kennen we al jaren en jaren; al in 2016 kreeg hij met 'Blood on Me' bij ons een notering. 'Dream Therapy' is een track van de nieuwe EP van Farrell, die nu een ruime maand uit is. Het is een lichtvoetige, erg lekker in het gehoor liggende housetrack, die ik -ook al heeft het geen muzikale overeenkomst- associeer met de Adamski-Seal-combinatie op de banger 'Killer'; de stem van Sampha past er perfect bij.

SPOTLIGHT: De jeugd zou zeggen: de nieuwe single van Danny Brown has no business going this hard. Zijn kenmerkende prettig gestoorde rapstijl rijmt geweldig met de hyperpop-meets-UK-house-productie en vocalen van underscores. Verder hebben we nog twee high-profile hiphopsamenwerkingen - boombapduo Danger Mouse en Black Thought worden op het refrein van UP ondersteund door Rag'n'Bone Man, en Joey Valence & Brae en JPEGMAFIA brengen de uitdrukking 'terminally online' naar een nieuw niveau op WASSUP - maar ook een downtempo funky popsingle van Payfone, en een ambient UK garage interpretatie van Yes' Owner of a Lonely Heart door de Nederlandse technoproducer nthng.

Ik weet niet hoe hij dat doet, maar ik vind het scary.
Oké, je luistert een enorme lijst af aan tips op Spotify. Ik had Richard Ashcroft daar nog buitengelaten, ik had nog even geen zin in deze oude gediende, met alle respect, en ik had al zoveel tips.

Ik zet nog alles even op een rijtje en laat Spotify aan staan. En waar komt de streamingdienst mee aanzetten? Juist. Hoe kon ik het nummer vergeten of eigenlijk links laten liggen? En hoe weet de computer daar van af? Het erge is nog dat Heavy News een ijzersterk nummer is én ook nog eens nieuw op de koop toe.

Dus "het" verbetert zichzelf of "het" krijgt een "ons kent ons" relatie met zijn gebruiker. Wat minstens zo scary is.
Het werkt nog niet altijd, als ik bijvoorbeeld 30 nummers uit 1981 afspeel, wil dat nog niet zeggen dat "het" zo slim is om te bedenken dat het draait om 1981, nog gezwegen over de maand waarin alle nummers genoteerd staan. Maar "het" wordt steeds beter of is gewoon niet geïnteresseerd in 1981, dat kan natuurlijk ook nog.

Ook Thrice zit in de hoek van de muziek van Ashcroft dus daar geen verrassingen. Wat ik eigenlijk wel iedereen van harte even een keer wil aanbevelen: The Crystal Ship van Cigarettes after Sex. Ik zeg er even helemaal niets over, het gaat over de volstrekt nieuwe luisterervaring die vele users er mee op kunnen doen.
En Nothing but Thieves heeft er weer een nieuwe concurrent bij: Magazines. Zanger Gijs Teuwsen gooit er met gemak een Conor Mason uit en Hollywood klinkt zowaar nog aardiger dan de laatste NBT.

week 43 van 2025 met Snooper die naar 1 springt, toch denk ik niet dat die heel lang op 1 zullen staan gezien wat er achter gebeurt, binnenkomt en nu al staat te wachten om volgende week binnen te komen.
Deze week de hoogste nieuwe voor Senser, in de 90s tijdelijk een sensatie met hun mix van rock, punk en rap, hun nieuwe klinkt alsof die zo op het debuut had kunnen staan.
Tristen daardoor niet de hoogste maar alsnog in de top 20 binnengekomen met haar nieuwste, de vorige haalde nummer 1 en staat nog in de top 10.
Coast Arcade is inmiddels ook een vaste waarde in mijn lijst en dit nummer is misschien wel het hardste wat ik van ze gehoord heb, erg lekker.
Grimes is ook terug, in 2019 regelmatig op 1 te vinden bij mij met de singles van het geweldige Miss Anthropocene, haar nieuwste had heel even tijd nodig om te wennen maar klinkt toch ook wel erg goed.
Pia Fraus maakt hun debuut, een band uit Estland van hetzelfde label als nummer 1 artiest Mariin K vorig jaar. Pia Fraus schijnen zelfs de label oprichters te zijn. In elk geval fijne pop/rock met een 90s geluid.
Chloe Parché stond dit jaar al top 10 en haar nieuwe verrast wat dat betreft weinig.
Chibi Ichigo heeft al eens top 10 gestaan met Gracht en haar nieuwe Buh is ook weer een lekkere stuiterplaat.
