week 17 van 2025 met een 90s georienteerde top 3, met leden van Ride en Lush op 2 en Pulp op 3. Veel singles die tussen 15 en 30 met 2, 3 of 4 weken genoteerd staan en nauwelijk omhoog kunnen of zelfs al zakken omdat degene boven ze weigeren te zakken en ze ook nog nog wel ingehaald worden door enkele nog nieuwere.
Verder op deze dag een toepasselijke hoogste binnenkomer met I See Orange waarvan de vorige nog genoteerd staat, die miste net de nummer 1 maar hoe gaat dat met deze? De terugkeer van Amy Macdonald, de zoals gewoonlijk goede Seaside en Swim School die ook best hoger hadden mogen binnenkomen, maar ja... April March lost zichzelf af met een nieuwe single die meteen net iets meer aanspreekt met de gitaar die 'meezingt' met de tekst.
Grocery Bag is een nieuwe naam voor mij, een band uit Austin, Texas; een fijne kennismaking (niet hun 1e single overigens)

Binnen De Koningslijntjes 26/04/2025

Een ongewijzigde top-3, maar daarachter verandert van alles, er zijn zeven nieuwe binnenkomers en een volle tiplijst, dus dat belooft veel (nieuw) goeds voor de komende weken.

Instant verliefd op (de nieuwe van) Amy en daarmee niet onverwacht de hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer. Er blijft iets onweerstaanbaars in haar in principe toch niet zo heel bijzondere muziek zitten.
Op #21 een plaatje dat getipt werd uit onverwachte hoek: Villa VdB. Ik was amper thuis van fietsvakantie in Zuid-Limburg, zette de radio aan bij het uitpakken en binnen vijf minuten hoorde ik Jurgen een nieuw nummer aankondigen. Van ERNEST had ik nog nooit gehoord, van Snoop uiteraard wel, en het is een heerlijk on-the-road-nummer (wat dat betreft was de timing dan weer wat minder).
Cut Copy kwam met de single Solid, die ging geruisloos voorbij maar de B-kant is van uitzonderlijke klasse, wat een heerlijke opbouw - zou met een lichte bewerking zomaar op Surrender van Chemical Brothers kunnen staan.
Coeur de Pirate komt met een fijn uptempo-nummer, heerlijk voor het zomerse weer dat in het verschiet ligt.
Van Naaz komen inmiddels al meer recente nummers in aanmerking, deze haalt de lijst in elk geval, heel mooie stem en dito begeleidende piano.
Lana del Rey dan - kan ook weinig fout doen bij mij, al vond ik de vorige single niet lijstwaardig.
En ten slotte de tweede entry van de Poolse Zuzanna Całka; waar Pulsing veel meer de stuwende electro met Frahm-raakvlakken opgaat, is dit verstilde pianomuziek, maar evengoed prachtig.

- Arooj Aftab geremixt door Khruangbin, veel exotischer wordt het niet, op papier dan. Hoewel ik geen Pakistaans versta, is de muziek vrij toegankelijk. De beat doet me zelfs wat aan die van Enigma's Sadeness Pt. 1 denken. Heerlijke plaat.
- Chaufau kreeg ik een paar weken terug getipt van tnf, die het op haar beurt op een Zwitsers radiostation had opgepikt. Heerlijk opzwepende plaat. In het begin heeft het nog iets progrockerigs, maar uiteindelijk is het vooral een mix van post-punk en electro om dansvloeren mee af te breken. Goede tip!
- Darkside bracht een van de interessantere albums van dit jaar tot nu toe uit, mede dankzij dit soort broeierige nummers waar moeilijk genres aan te koppelen zijn. Lekker psychedelisch is het in ieder geval wel.
- Death in Vegas ken ik vanuit de jaren '90, toen ze nog een duo waren. Inmiddels is Richard Fearless al even solo en brengt hij zo af en toe nog eens plaat uit met spookhuizen-electronica. Dit is ook weer een prettig duister werkje.
- Bryan Ferry is hier de lead artist, maar we horen hem vooral de backing vocals doen voor Amelia Barratt, een multidisciplinair kunstenaar (ze is ook schrijver en kunstschilder) die hier een spoken word performance doet. De tekst heb ik nog niet bestudeerd, maar mooi en intrigerend klinkt het in ieder geval.

SPOTLIGHT: Had je me een week geleden gevraagd hoe een Four Tet remix van The Cures Alone zou klinken, dan had ik me precies dit nummer voorgesteld. Nu is de remix daadwerkelijk uitgekomen voor Record Store Day, en hoewel dus niet verrassend, ben ik (getuige ook de hoge notering) gelijk om. Heerlijk.

De Spotifylijst en de afspeellijst met nieuwe binnenkomers zijn weer volledig up to date.

MuMe Afrekening, gezamenlijke weeklijst 2025 - week 18

De geijkte namen staan deze week op het podium, maar het is voor het eerst dat een MusicMeter-icoon als Pulp de eerste plek haalt in de Afrekening. Logisch, de vorige single - After You - kwam uit in 2013. Mooi om te zien dat Spike Island ook hier zo goed ontvangen wordt. Ik verwacht dat Spike Island ook nog wel een tijdje op 1 blijft staan. Geen Hiqpy-praktijken, maar een weekje of vijf moet toch wel lukken?

Over Hiqpy gesproken: Something keldert 15 plekken. Zou dit de laatste keer zijn dat we van dit nummer hebben genoten in onze afrekening? Niet helemaal natuurlijk, want we zien Hiqpy later dit jaar terug in de Eindafrekening. Die voorspelling durf ik wel te maken.

NEW:
15. Perfume Genius – Clean Heart
De laatste single van Glory is er één om door een ringetje te halen. De hoge, breekbare stem van Mike Hadreas wordt ondersteund door een doffe beat. Kort daarna barst het nummer open en horen we legende Jim Keltner achter de drums. De productie is meesterlijk, en Clean Heart behoort nu al tot de mooiste nummers van 2025.

21. Arcade Fire – Year of the Snake
In 2022 kwam Arcade Fire negatief in het nieuws toen Pitchfork onthullingen publiceerde van vier – later vijf – vrouwen over seksueel wangedrag door zanger Win Butler. Feist stapte uit de tour, fans keerden de band de rug toe en even leek het einde nabij. Maar het liep anders: Win bood zijn excuses aan, Régine steunde hem, en inmiddels is het nieuwe album Pink Elephant afgerond. Year of the Snake is de eerste single. Régine opent het nummer, waarna Win aansluit en het nummer toewerkt naar een indrukwekkende climax. De tekst gaat over de turbulente periode van de band en de noodzaak om oude patronen los te laten om te groeien. Een geslaagde comeback, al had het einde misschien nog iets explosiever gemogen.

23. Dubfire – I Feel Speed (Erol Alkan Rework)
In 2007 bracht de Iraans-Amerikaanse house- en technodj Ali Shirazinia (Dubfire) I Feel Speed uit, een cover van het postpunknummer van Love and Rockets uit 1989. De originele versie had nog een duidelijk ‘Depeche Mode’-gevoel. De Londense electro-dj Erol Alkan, van Turkse afkomst, nam het nummer onder handen en leverde deze strakke rework af. Dankzij de Roland SH-01 klinkt het geheel nu een stuk droger en gruiziger.

28. Mark Lotterman – Is Rob goed genoeg?
Singer-songwriter Mark Lotterman schreef jarenlang Engelstalige nummers, maar koos sinds Stedentrip (2024) voor het Nederlands. Zijn maatschappijkritische teksten, doordrenkt met droge humor, komen extra binnen door zijn nuchtere voordracht. Het is soms bijna cabaretesk – je moet ervan houden. In Is Rob goed genoeg? staat één vraag centraal - je raadt het al - is Rob goed genoeg? Met kerst stoof hij het vlees in dure wijn en inmiddels rijdt hij in een luxe grijze wagen, mét dakraam en stekker. Maar is hij werkelijk goed genoeg? Van een afstand lijkt het van niet.

29. Jade Bird – Who Wants
De Britse zangeres Jade Bird brak op 22-jarige leeftijd door met haar titelloze debuutalbum. Met vrolijke uptempo folkrockers als Uh Huh en I Get No Joy veroverde ze ook hier veel harten. Haar tweede album wist minder te overtuigen, maar met haar derde album Who Wants to Talk About Love? hoopt ze opnieuw te scoren. Who Wants is een ingetogen, pijnlijk nummer over de scheiding van haar ouders toen ze zestien was – een nummer dat stil maakt.

30. Chalk – Pool Scene
De elektronische postpunkband Chalk uit Belfast bracht eerder dit jaar de EP Conditions III uit, met Pool Scene als afsluiter. De eerste twee minuten zijn ingetogen en dreigend, waarna het tempo toeneemt en het nummer de luisteraar volledig meesleept.
