Omdat we nog niet genoeg Clipse in mijn lijst hadden, nu ook nog een featuring bij J.I.D. Die rapper heb ik eigenlijk niet zo klik mee maar ik vind dit een sterk beklag, samengevat in de openingsline van Malice z'n verse: "my ghetto is not your culture, people really die here".

Deze van Danny L Harle draai ik al wat langer maar is toch wel een erg fijne track die een plekje in m'n lijst verdient, hoewel iets minder sterk dan de samenwerkingen met PinkPantheress en Julia Michaels.

The Scythe is een samenwerking van Denzel Curry, Bktherula en Lazer Dim 700. Als Denzel meedoet let ik altijd op, want dat is doorgaans lekker knallende hiphop.

Berghain van Rosalía heeft uiteindelijk nooit m'n lijst gehaald, gek genoeg, maar La Perla doet dat nu wel. Natuurlijk een stuk orthodoxer en minder spannend maar wel gewoon een erg prettig liedje.

Tot slot de nieuwe single van Arlo Parks, die me nog niet helemaal heeft overtuigd maar ik qua sound wel heerlijk vind.

Afgelopen vrijdag is mijn lieve man, met wie ik sinds mijn 21ste samen was, overleden aan alvleesklierkanker. Ik ben intens verdrietig. Ik trek me voorlopig even terug.

Gecondoleerd en heel veel sterkte, wat triest!

Beste Martijn, ik meen me te herinneren dat je begin vorig jaar (?) al eventjes gewag had gemaakt dat er niet zo'n best nieuws over je partner was.
Rotziekte is het. Ik denk dat ik naam van iedereen hier kan zeggen dat we met je meeleven en je heel veel sterkte en liefde toewensen.

MuMe Afrekening, gezamenlijke weeklijst 2026 - week 5

MusicMeter. Er wordt wel eens geklaagd als een moderator een reactie verwijdert of iemand geband wordt, maar wat hebben we hier met z'n allen een fijne plek gecreëerd. Al kan de wereld nog zo klote zijn, aan het einde van de dag is er nog muziek en zijn er hier muziekvrienden die om je heen staan. We rangschikken muziek (en ja... aan het eind van het jaar staat dezelfde winnaar als een jaar eerder bovenaan), maken lijstjes, praten na over liveshows. Sommigen kennen elkaar in real life, anderen zijn digitale avatars waar we ons een beeld van vormen. Het maakt niet uit. Samen zijn we een community en houden we elkaar vast in goede en slechte tijden.

Deze week in het bijzonder leven we mee met Martijn die zijn man is verloren aan een vreselijke ziekte. Martijn, waarschijnlijk was MusicMeter voor jou afgelopen jaar ook een plek waar je af en toe even naartoe kon gaan om je gedachten te verzetten. Namens het hele MuMeAfrekening-team heel veel sterkte met alles. Gun jezelf de rust, want ik denk dat we allemaal geen idee hebben hoe zwaar jij het hebt gehad afgelopen jaar en nu hebt. We geven vandaag onderstaande nummer speciaal een plekje bovenaan de lijst. Een grote hit vorig jaar in jouw lijst en waarschijnlijk een nummer dat je het afgelopen jaar op de been hield en kracht gaf. Op afstand staan we met z'n allen om je heen. NEW:
10. Arctic Monkeys - Opening Night
Het is al een paar jaar stil rondom de band van Alex Turner, maar nu droppen de aapjes een single voor War Child. Opening Night staat op het album HELP(2), dat War Child uitbrengt om geld in te zamelen voor kinderen die zijn getroffen door oorlog. Het is een opvolger van HELP uit 1995 met singles van o.a. Suede, Orbital, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Portishead, The Stone Roses, Manic Street Preachers, Oasis en Sinead O'Connor. Niet de minsten. En ja, dit album viel wat tegen, maar bracht ons wel 'Lucky' van Radiohead (een nummer dat een paar jaar later opnieuw op OK Computer zou verschijnen). HELP(2) belooft interessanter te worden, want er zijn een paar bijzondere samenwerkingen. Zo gaan Kae Tempest, Grian Chatten en Damon Albarn samen het nummer 'Flags' ten gehore brengen. Of wat dacht je van de combinatie Ellie Rowsell, Nilüfer Yanya, Anna Calvi en Dove Ellis? Hoe dan ook: Opening Night is al een fraai begin. Een ingetogen geluid, in lijn met het repertoire op het laatste album, maar op het eind gaat de band toch een klein beetje los.

16. Isolde Lasoen - My Kind Of Drama
Ken je Isolde Lasoen nog niet? Deze Belgische dame bracht de afgelopen jaren al verschillende albums uit, maar komt nu voor het eerst de MuMeAfreking in met dit fraaie tweetalige nummer. My Kind Of Drama is Franstalige jaren '80 electropop van de zuiderburen. Naast solozangeres is Lasoen ook drummer bij DAAN, dus ze is van alle markten thuis. Voor de liefhebbers van Francoise Hardy: check ook zeker het album 'Oh Dear' uit 2023. Vooral Oh Dear, Douce Mélancolie en Ghosting zijn de moeite waard.

17. The Boxer Rebellion - Flowers in the Water (ft. Nathan Nicholson)
The Boxer Rebellion: dat is toch die band van die ene hit 'Diamonds'? Is dat niet een one-hit-wonder? Nou nee, want raad eens hoeveelste entry dit is voor deze Engelse indierockband? Nummer elf, dames en heren. Daarmee is The Boxer Rebellion één van de populairste bands in de Afrekening. Sterker nog: Diamonds verzamelde in 2013 268 punten, terwijl single Love Yourself een paar jaar later 266 punten bij elkaar sprokkelde. Het had niet veel gescheeld of Love Yourself was hun grootste hit de Afrekening. Hoe dan ook: Flowers in the Water is een heerlijke leadsingle en zou zomaar ook in deze puntenregionen kunnen eindigen. Zanger Nathal Nicholson is niet de beste zanger - daar zijn we het denk ik allemaal wel over eens - maar haalt hier het maximale uit zijn stem en zijn bereik. Ondertussen wordt hij ondersteund door ritmische drums en galmende elektrische gitaren. Lekker!

20. Gorillaz - Orange County (ft. Bizarrap, Kara Jackson, Anouschka Shankar)
Op 20 maart ligt het nieuwe album van Gorillaz in de platenzaken. 'The Mountain' gaat een bonte verzameling worden van nummers, want Damon Albarn werkt met veel artiesten samen, zoals Sparks, Anoushka Shankar, IDLES, Black Thought, Johnny Marr en Mark E. Smith. Niet de onbekendste namen. Single Orange County gaat over rouw. Zo overleed Albarns vriend (en muzikant) Tony Allen in 2020. Albarn zingt daarover: "You know the hardest thing is to say goodbye to someone you love. That's the hardest thing." Door het fluitje en de vrolijke instrumentatie is het nummer geen taaie kost en schijnt de zon weer een beetje. Er is hoop.

25. Harry Styles - Aperture
Harry Styles is terug en nu al met een enorme hit. Aperture komt in alle hitlijsten hoog binnen en is al meer dan 50 miljoen keer gestreamd op Spotify. Styles heeft goed geluisterd naar The Postal Service en LCD Soundsystem. Het nummer is toegankelijk, maar ook 'edgy' of artistiek genoeg voor muziekliefhebbers. Een knappe combinatie waar weinigen mee weg komen. Het meest succesvolle lid van One Direction stond al drie keer eerder in de MuMeAfrekening met een 9e positie voor 'As It Was' in 2022 als hoogtepunt. Ik schat de kansen groot in dat Styles met Aperture dit record gaat verbreken. Wil je Styles live zien? Deze zomer staat Styles tien keer in een uitverkocht Arena met Robyn in het voorprogramma.

Nogmaals sterkte gewenst Martijn, ook vanuit dit topic.

Als ik heel eerlijk moet zijn: de écht leuke nummers die binnenkomen beginnen bij nummer 45, de Crystal Tides. Wat er onder staat lijkt mij ook weer snel te verdwijnen, al leek het aanvankelijk beloftevol. Maar ik moet streng zijn.

Met Crystal Tides en The Maine muziek die ik graag mag horen. Bruce Springsteen en zijn protestsong tegen alles wat zich in de VS afspeelt in Minneapolis heeft van nature een hoge score. En dan blijft Bruce net achter de piepjonge band Super die uiteindelijk de leukste single van de dag heeft.

Zo jong (Wigan, Engeland) dat ik tenminste niet zo snel een foto van de band kon vinden. Maar daar komen we later op terug.
