Vandaag is het precies twee jaar geleden dat Rob a.k.a. Rhythm & Poetry ons ontviel. Zijn plotselinge overlijden maakte veel emoties los bij iedereen die hem gekend heeft.

Met zijn levenslust, zijn humor en zijn grenzeloze optimisme was Rob - ondanks alle fysieke tegenslagen die op zijn pad kwamen - een voorbeeld voor velen. Bij mij (en waarschijnlijk vele anderen hier) bracht hij met zijn geweldige karakter en bewonderenswaardige levensinstelling het positieve in me naar boven op op de momenten dat ik het even minder zag zitten. Ik denk nog regelmatig terug aan Rob en alles wat hij wilde uitdragen: wees dankbaar voor het leven en zorg dat je er in de eerste plaats zelf iets moois van maakt (‘When life gives you lemons, you paint that shit gold’). Jaag je dromen na, maar vergeet vooral niet te genieten van alles wat je plezier geeft. En wat er ook gebeurt: zorg te allen tijde goed voor de mensen om je heen, want dan geven ze jou hun liefde ook weer terug.

Rob was bovenal ook een enorme muziekliefhebber. Zijn ultieme favoriet: het Amerikaanse hiphopduo Atmosphere. Hij tipte mij ooit hun fantastische muziek en daar ben ik hem dankbaar voor.

Ik zal de muziek van Atmosphere daarom ook voor eeuwig aan hem blijven linken. Laten we ter nagedachtenis aan Rob, hier ook wel bekend als Rhythm & Poetry, allemaal op Atmosphere - Painting stemmen in de Top 2000. Mocht dit nummer de lijst halen dan zou dat een prachtige ode zijn aan Rob en alles waar hij voor stond in zijn leven.

Laten we sowieso Shake It Off erin proberen te houden, vorig jaar zat ie gevaarlijk dicht aan de exit.

Oh luitjes, en Nelly Furtado niet vergeten! Ik ga voor de Vogel aangezien die het meeste kans maakt.

Prince had ik niet verwacht van je Titmeister

Oh, dat heb ik gemist (ook al luister ik elke ochtend naar Ekdom, bij gebrek aan beter). Vond het vooral opvallend omdat ik Capsized niet zo heel boeiend vind. Bird heeft veel betere nummers.

Mja ik heb bij Prince veel te lang laten beperken doordat ik veel van zijn bekende nummers matig vind (met name Purple Rain en The Most Beautiful Girl, in mindere mate Kiss, When Doves Cry en 1999), maar hij heeft ook voldoende prima nummers uitgebracht, met Erotic City als zijn absolute topnummer.

Van Michael Kiwanuka staat Cold Little Heart niet in de keuzelijst, terwijl die toch een tijdje flink geplugd werd door bepaalde dj's. Vreemd...

Ja dat viel mij ook op, terwijl Stenders die juist als stemadvies gaf voor de top 2000. Maar ja, uit het oog, uit het hart he...

Grappig dat dit toch ieder jaar weer zo leeft op een site als deze. Ik was eigenlijk van plan het insturen van een lijstje over te slaan maar wie weet maak ik er toch nog een komende dagen.

Het trieste van dit hele gebeuren is dat je never nooit uitkomt. Ik begin altijd netjes vooraan maar vaak bij de B moet ik al weer gaan schuiven. En als ik de lijstjes hier al voorbij zie komen, dan zit er haast overal wel een nummer bij wat ook in mijn lijst moet.
En aangezien ik nogal een peinzerd ben, word ik er eigenlijk nooit happy van om er weer mee bezig te "moeten".
