Ik denk dat een verkeerde regel gecopy-paste heb. Ik kijk dat zo even na

De jaren '80 dan. Ik was 17 tot 27 jaar en het was voor mij het decennium van het liefdesverdriet. De verhouding tussen verliefdheid en geslaagde relatie lag bij mij ongeveer 10:1. Niks dan ellende dus. In die verdrietige jaren leerde ik dat het idee dat de meisjes waar ik voor viel een lieve begripvolle jongen zoeken een sprookje is. Verdrietig was ook de ontwikkeling in de muziek. De artiesten die ik in de jaren '70 nog zo hoog had zitten, lieten het, op een enkele uitzondering na, flink afweten. Te stoned, te lui, te gemakzuchtig, te rijk ook. De New Wave, waar ik nog wel iets van verwachtte, verzandde binnen de kortste keren in dezelfde landerigheid. De prachtige productietechnieken ten spijt. Want, ik zou dit wel het decennium van De Producer willen noemen. En natuurlijk de opmars van de synthesizer, meestal in het nadeel van de electrische gitaar. Je kunt niet alles hebben.

Turn of a Friendly Card gaat helaas laag eindigen in de eindlijst, maar dat album mag wel in meer lijstjes staan

Supertramp - "...Famous Last Words..." (1982) kwam in de plaats van Bob Dylan - Saved (1980).
Genesis - Genesis (1983) zette ik op de plek van Genesis - Abacab (1981). Net iets beter (of minder slecht voor de doemdenkers onder ons).
Turn of a Friendly Card stond al op 3 bij mij. Inderdaad, kansloos voor de Top 40. Maar het kan nog, als de users met een echt goede smaak nog even willen inloggen voor hun lijstje.
Kom maar met die mooie noteringen, er is niks op TV, het wordt al kouder buiten, dus waar wacht je op.

The Smiths waren wat dat betreft een verademing. Eindelijk weer eens gitaarband die vanuit alternatieve hoek op de voorgrond trad. En een goede ook. Weliswaar staat bij deze band het instrument vanzelfsprekend ten dienste van het nummer i.p.v. andersom, maar wat boeit dat.

Alles overziend zijn de jaren '80 voor mij voornamelijk van (progressief) metaal, aangevuld met neo-prog en een enkele kwalitatieve oprisping van een oude classic (progressive) rock grootheid: iemand oog/oor voor Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers?

The Smiths en The Cure; alternatieve klassiekers die ik dankzij dit topic in 2012 mijn hart gesloten heb.

R.E.M., Talking Heads en The Clash kunnen er verder ook prima mee door. Echter, daarna hebben we het vanuit deze zijde van het muzikale spectrum voor mij ook wel weer gehad.

Wie denkt/hoopt in dit jaren '80 topic verlost te zijn van Pink Floyd, moet ik helaas teleurstellen:

Ja, maar Voivod is een fantastische en ontzettend invloedrijke band die een Floyd-cover kunnen neer zetten die metal is maar tegelijkertijd nog steeds de rare psychedelische sfeer van het origineel heeft, echt knap. Ze hebben er voor gezorgd dat ik naar The Piper At the Gates of Dawn ging luisteren, een van mijn favoriete Floyd-albums. De riffstijl van Dennis ''Piggy'' D'Amour hoor je dertig jaar later nog steeds stevig door het metalgitaarspel sijpelen.

Bij mij was het precies andersom. Bovenstaande Floyd-cover zorgde ervoor dat ik naar Voivod ging luisteren en de band nu tot mijn favorieten reken.

Je slaat één beroemde naam over, want aan het einde van de jaren 80 kwamen de Pixies op. Niet speciaal mijn kopje thee, maar wel een veelgeprezen alternatieve gitaargroep (en een favoriete band van Frank Rijkaard). Maar misschien heb ook jij daar niet veel mee?

Ik ben opgegroeid met de jaren 80 muziek, met een voorkeur voor het midden van het decennium. In tegenstelling tot de andere decennia zit er jaar na jaar weinig beweging in mijn lijstje.

Enfin, ook dit jaar grijp ik dit topic met beide handen aan om reclame te maken voor Cardiacs, een band die als geen ander in staat is een progressief en alternatief publiek te verenigen maar - jammer genoeg - op MuMe stelselmatig aan de belangstelling van meer dan een enkeling ontsnapt.

30 prima albums maar het haalt toch echt het niveau van de jaren '70 niet (17 vs. 2 5*-albums), maar dat schreef ik vorig jaar ook al. Evenals in de andere lijsten heb ik ook nu meerdere albums van een artiest toegestaan, maar bij zowel Marillion als Rush vond ik drie toch wel genoeg (jammer voor Script en Grace under Pressure).

Johnny brengt je in dromenland, altijd fijn. Die van Sam Rivers ken ik zelf ook nog niet zo lang. Kwam het laatst tegen in de ECM wandelgangen..

Ik ken zelf Crystals en Dimensions & Extensions van Rivers en dat zijn kleine meesterwerken. Ik zal Contrasts eens proberen op te snorren.

Hee Numnumnum, wat een bijzonder interessante lijst. Zie heel wat platen die ik niet ken. Ga ik zeker opsporen. Jon Hassell had eigenlijk ook wel in mijn lijstje thuisgehoord, maar hij heeft zoveel sterke platen. En Alice Coltrane op 2? Straks maakt ze nog kans op de eindlijst. Het zal toch niet?!
