Grappig, hoe muziekbeleving kan verschillen. Bij het uitkomen van Swordfishtrombones werd ik volkomen van mijn sokken geblazen door de totaal andere richting die Waits gekozen had. De teleurstelling was groot was dat hij op Rain dogs daar te veel op verder borduurde.

Beide albums kunnen overigens niet in de verste verte tippen aan zijn debuut.
