Het zijn retro-weken in mijn lijst op het ogenblik... De hele top 4 had ook in de jaren '70 gemaakt kunnen zijn.
Sven Hammond blijft nog een weekje op 1 staan met de soulkraker 'Lazarus'.
Daaronder volgt het duo Zervas & Pepper, met 'Hotel bible', een heerlijk stukje countryrock dat ook van the Eagles of Crosby, Stills & Nash had kunnen zijn.
Hoogste nieuwe op 3 is een schaamteloze Led Zeppelin-kopie van de Amerikaanse rockers Greta Van Fleet, dat dan wel meteen weer onweerstaanbaar vet klinkt. Op 'Safari song'schreeuwt zanger Josh Kiszka het uit als Robert Plant op z'n best.
Op 4 de zanger van the Black Crowes, nu in the Chris Robinson Brotherhood. 'Behold the seer' is ook een moddervet nummer, en bovendien funky as a mosquito's tweeter.
Een stukje verderop in de lijst stijgt het Liverpoolse kwartet Desert Planes door naar 13 met gewoon een lekker vlot indie-nummer, 'Hot cars in the sun'.
Op 14 entert de driehonderdzesendertigste single dit jaar van the War on Drugs de lijst. Ik ben de tel kwijt, maar wanneer zanger Adam Granduciel z'n bekkie open trekt ben ik verkocht.
Een stukje verderop op 21 graag nog even wat aandacht voor de fluisterfolk van de Noorse Siv Jakobsen. Het gitaarspel en de productie doet me ook weer aan Led Zeppelin denken; ergens tussen 'Immigrant song' en 'Kashmir' in.
Tenslotte, voor de liefhebber, Lonely the brave heeft ook weer een nieuwe single uit. Dit keer is het de beurt aan het rustige 'Things will matter', het titelnummer van hun meest recente album dus.

Het is weer maandag, dus tijd om even een herinnering rond te sturen voor de MuMeAfrekening van deze week Magick1, Sander14, herman, 123poetertjes, Vince vega, Poeha, kaj_666, Sfeermaker, arcade monkeys, Gretz, WhyNotSmile, luigifort, Dance Lover, stoepkrijt jullie lijstjes zijn van harte welkom tot vanavond 20u (nou ja, daarna natuurlijk ook, maar dan tellen ze voor de gezamenlijke weeklijst niet meer mee)

Drie delicate meisjesstemmen vullen het podium in week 36, maar dat mag inmiddels niet meer bijzonder heten. Home is een overtuigende nummer één en kan zich zelfs meten met de topnummers van Jerry, zo laat deze chart zien. Alice Jemima, onthouden die naam! Net als Charlotte trouwens, zoals het een Charcarnummer betaamt blijft Shelter met de luisterbeurt beter worden en inmiddels is het al doorgestegen naar plek twee. Beth Parvin behoudt een stekje op het podium. De twee instrumentale nummers van Palms Trax en Randomer zitten daar weer vlak achter. En we hebben een fijne nieuwe binnenkomer.

Ik werk haar singles even in omgekeerde volgorde af; deze is een stukje ouder dan Weak en ging het nummer ook al voor in de Afrekeningen van Panjoe en Dance Lover. Maar hij is zo goed dat ik ‘m eigenlijk niet mag overslaan. De Londense duikt hier vuistdiep in de clubscene en weet de euforie van een lange avond wonderwel over te brengen. Ik luisterde dit nummer onlangs vlak na In Colour en het is daar eigenlijk ook een perfect verlengstuk op. Maar nog met net wat meer mysterie. I like.

Damesduo en zoals wel bij meer damesduo’s worden ook deze Britse gebackt door Sunderland Records. Het ingetogen Detune haalde in het verleden al mijn lijst, deze heeft de volumeknop net een klein tikje luider open en de zang is wat helderder al blijft de sfeer lekker dreamy, vooral de break net iets na de tweeminutenmarker is fijn. Nummer steunt daarnaast vooral op zijn bliepjes, vele daarvan ook vocaal van aard.

LIA LIA - Olymp
Haar naam staat voor, en dit is serieus, Live Impact Area Legacy Interface Adapter. Blijkbaar één of andere in de elektronische muziek ofzo, artiesten zijn nou eenmaal vrij gekke mensen. De 19-jarige Berlijnse debuteert hier wel met een volwassen nummertje dat zich in de sferen begeeft van Young Ejecta. Fijn subtiele beats met veel laagjes en een mooi praatcouplet.

Odette - Watch Me Read You
Uit de lijst van Cowboyhenkie. De 19-jarige Odette schrijft al al liedjes vanaf haar achtste, maar dit is pas haar eerste officieel uitgebrachte nummer. Een nummer waar het couplet zo ontzettend sterk is dat je toch een beetje op je honger blijft zitten wanneer het refrein gewoon maar ‘wel aardig’ is. Het begin van dit nummer vertolkt de Brits-Australische songwriter pure poëzie, begeleid door simpele pianoklanken. Ik ze dit nummer ook wel een plekje in de populariteit verwerven a la Royals, daar het net dat beetje anders is dan het gebruikelijke. En ik ben zeer benieuwd naar wat ze nog meer kan.

De gebroeders Paul en Phil Hartnoll, pioniers in de elektronische muziek, of in elk geval waren ze er vroeg bij begin jaren negentig. Ik ben wat later, want dit nieuwe Copenhagen is eigenlijk het eerste nummer dat ik van Orbital hoor. Als hun oude werk net zo heerlijk opzwepend is dan heb ik dus vele jaren om terug te bladeren.

Self Esteem - Your Wife
Rebecca Taylor van Slow Club heeft genoeg zelfvertrouwen opgebouwd om een soloprojectje op te starten, waarin ze haar oude geluid trouw blijft maar ook een beetje kan experimenteren. Het nummer steunt op een trommelklapritme en ze smeert daar zorgvuldig stukjes elektronica tussen, waardoor het tegelijk een krachtig als dromerig nummer oplevert. Vooral het einde is erg fijn.

Geen Jerry Williams meer in de lijst? Babe kan toch ook nog wel een tijdje mee, of niet?

Uiteraard kan Babe nog wel even mee, maar die was eigenlijk al een beetje inbegrepen bij INILWY. Ik sla hem toch maar even over, pauzemomentje tussen twee Jerry's is ook niet verkeerd voor de doorstroming in mijn lijst en ik denk ook dat een volgende single niet lang op zich gaat laten wachten. En ze zit natuurlijk nog in Falling.

Ik betwijfel of Los Ageless een even groot succes zal worden in mijn lijstje als New York, maar een interessant nummer is het evenzeer. Red Bottom Sky van de Zweedse rapper Yung Lean klinkt heel ijl, maar is mede daardoor heel erg mooi. Verder nog piepende indie rock van Dream Wife, hipsternonsens van Infinity Girl, een atmosferisch lied van Carla Dal Forno en de tweepop (voor zover deze term nog enige lading dekt) van Sports.

- Amadou & Mariam: alweer een heerlijke nieuwe single van dit Malinese echtpaar. Heerlijke afropop maar iets electronischer getint dan voorheen.
- London Grammar: de ene teleurstellende nieuwe single na de andere, achteraf lijkt dit een one-album-hit-wonder. Maar deze remix is dan wel weer erg fijn, schreeuwt ook om een langere versie.
- Octo Octa: mooie techno, redelijk kaal maar toch aangenaam melodieus en lekker meeslepend
- Msafiri Zawose: Tanzaniaanse dansmuziek, erg lekker. Een beetje in hetzelfde straatje als Nan Kolè.

Voor de tweede week op nummer één: meester gitarist, componist, zanger Mike Love. Luister vooral naar deze live versie: Heeft toch alles wat je zou willen horen in een compositie in zich?


De snelste stijger is Manchester Orchestra, zij komen niet uit Manchester en zijn ook geen orkest, maar maken wel heerlijke folk achtige rock. De hoogste nieuwe is voor A Tribe Called Quest, hun nieuwe single staat al maanden in de nominatie en het zou een zonde zijn als deze jazzy-hiphop single de lijst niet zou halen. Na wat extra aandacht op de radio is het toch gelukt. Igorrr staat met zijn extreem eigenwijze single het langst genoteerd.
