De MuMeAfrekening op Spotify:
Met wat vertraging de nieuwe Afrekening, waarbij opvalt dat het bovenin weer stuivertje wisselen is.
Een deel van die vertraging hebben jullie te wijten aan Alvvays, want als ik niet zo nódig hun nieuwe single op repeat moest zetten hadden jullie de lijst al een uur eerder kunnen lezen... Maar ja, Plimsoll Punks dus!
De hoogste nieuwe en een janglepopplaatje waar de energie en het plezier langs alle kanten van afspat. Terwijl de Plimsoll Punk in het liedje zangeres Molly Rankin alleen maar verdrietig stemt. Overigens zijn Plimsolls sportschoenen met rubberen zolen (zoals bv. de befaamde Converse All Stars).
De vorige Alvvays single vliegt er na één week al uit en In Undertow is ook op weg naar de uitgang, maar met deze als hoogste nieuwe zijn we hopelijk nog wel een paar maanden zoet.
Vlak daarachter komt Tyler, The Creator binnen met Who Dat Boy, een aanstekelijk en redelijk stevig hiphopnummer. Van al zijn singles van de laatste tijd vind ik dit zelf toch ook wel de leukste, al was het maar vanwege de lollige videoclip waarin Tyler na een gezichtstransplantatie ineens een Action Bronson-masker heeft opgenaaid gekregen.
Regelmatig komt er een muziekveteraan binnen in de lijst en deze week is dat Gary Numan die al 40 jaar muzikaal actief is en wat mij betreft nog steeds op zeer hoog niveau. De gothic/industrial/synthpop-pionier is terug met het stevige My Name Is Ruin waarvan ik vooral het refrein behoorlijk overweldigend vind. Zowel Gary's eigen zang als de oosterse achtergrondzang geven het nummer toch wel heel veel suspense en kracht mee.
Daughter is logischerwijs een stuk rustiger, maar zeker niet minder verbeten als je op de tekst let: "I'll set fire to the whole place/I don't even care about our house/ It's not the same in here since he left anyways". Een rake tekst en een fraaie muzikale ondersteuning; het wordt hoog tijd dat deze band eenzelfde status krijgt als bv. Florence + The Machine.
Gus & Jim uit Canberra, Australië debuteren met het dromerige Boyhood, dat qua sfeer zo op de aftiteling van de gelijknamige film had gekund. Een behoorlijk sentimenteel indienummer dat denk ik toegankelijk genoeg is om ook commercieel te kunnen scoren, net zoals bv. Hozier of Rag'n'Bone-man dat deden. En dat zou een goede zaak zijn, want het is gewoonweg een erg fraai liedje.

Er kan er maar één het eigenwijst zijn. Igorrr voor de tweede maal op nummer 1. Wel een bedreiging op 2 voor de samenwerking van Coldcut, On-U Sound Records, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Junior Reid + Elan Atias.
De meeste plaatsen omhoog gaat de elektronische muziek van Michele Mininni. Ook de hoogste nieuwe is zeer dansbaar van GusGus. Na 12 weken nog steeds fris en vernieuwend klinken, ik heb het nummer DNA misschien wel 50 x geluisterd en ik wil het nog steeds meer horen, Kendrick Lamar maakt misschien wel de beste single van het jaar.

Wat wel geinig is, is dat hij voor deze speciale gelegenheid zijn oude band van begin jaren '70 weer eens aan het werk zet.
Helemaal eens met de lovende woorden over Gary Numan van herman. Jawel, 38 jaar geleden hadden we Are Friends Electric en de appel valt qua energiek en verrassend niet ver van de boom.

Ook Robert Plant hebben we natuurlijk allang gehoord en gezien. Maar, eerlijk is eerlijk, het blijft altijd fraai, onderhoudend. Plant een man ook van de tijd en muzikale wegen die net even wat verder reiken dan gangbare rockmuziek uit het oude straatje.
En dan heb ik zelf nog Bloody Knees opgedoken. Niet eens vanwege een partijtje voetbal op kunstgras. Maar als frisse jonge band met een mooi roffeltje indie en net iets meer daar bij.

08 Hopelijk gaat Kaleida hoge ogen gooien met hun debuutalbum dit najaar. Vooralsnog zie ik nog weinig gelijkgestemden. Lichte electronic en een stem dat doet denken aan de The Eurythmics. Met hun eerste 2 EP's leverden deze dames ook al fijne songs af.

11 op het laatst toegevoegd nadat ik haar een uurtje geleden (weer) hoorde op de Pinguin. Lees nu dat het weer een Nlse dame betreft. Waarom vallen die Nlse bandjes en artiesten mij zo vaak op? Anyway, mooi nummer, fijne stem en dito melodie.
12 Deze IJslandse combinatie levert elke maand een nummer af dat resulteert in een heel album aan het eind van dit jaar. In het voorjaar had ik al wat singles in mijn lijstje, maar de augustus-editie is wederom raak met prachtige pianospel. Laat dat album maar komen!
15 Een 2e duo dat Kurt & Courtney heet. Googlen op die namen levert heel veel wat anders op. Muziek van Courtney is iets om naar uit te kijken. Waar Courtney als vanouds lekker laidback klinkt moet ik wennen aan de stem van Kurt Vile. Ik ken hem niet zo goed, maar hij klinkt mij nog niet heel oprecht en ietwat gemaakt, maar we give it a try. Benieuwd of Courtney erbij is eind september bij het concert van Jen Cloher.
16 Deze Nlse dame is een groot talent. Dat bewees ze al onder haar eigen naam TRJ met haar debuut en op het podium. Nu wil ze anoniem zijn als Someone en dat is een goed uitgangspunt imo. Leuk vlot nummer, jammer van het begin van de clip. Dat leidt erg af.
17 Klinkt een nummer lekker exotisch, zit daar ook alweer een Nlse band achter, met Turkse invloeden. Niet gedacht dat er zoveel lekkers zit achter een term als Turkse psychrock.
18 Dit gaat een geweldig najaar worden met prachtige releases en veel concerten. Ik kijk erg uit naar het album en het optreden van Mackenzie Scott aka TORRES. Haar eerste 2 albums waren al fijn, het optreden in Paradiso was goed en haar eerste 2 singles van haar 3e album doen het prettigste beloven.

- Alvvays' Plimsoll Punks heb ik vorige week grijsgedraaid. Dream Tonite komt ook nog binnen, zij het een stuk lager. Beide nummers heel anders, maar erg de moeite waard. Misschien maar eens een album van ze gaan luisteren.
- T.Rex' Light of Love is een onbekende single van dik 40 jaar oud en eigenlijk niet zo'n heel beste, maar in deze hervisie blijkt less more te zijn, want nu alle overbodige instrumentatie eruit is gegooid blijft er een waanzinnig lekker groovend glamrockplaatje over.
- Ride: ik had de reünie na de 2 eerste singles al afgeschreven als niet interessant, maar nu brengen ze met All I Want en deze Lannoy Point ineens twee geweldige singles achter elkaar uit.
- Auntie Flo in de remix kwam ik op het spoor via Spotify die dit nummer ineens als tip draaide. Toffe remix met een Afrikaans toefje.
- Four Tet: heeft al een nieuwere single, maar deze komt na een maandje warmdraaien alsnog binnen. Beetje teruggrijpend op het geluid van There is Love in You; weinig nieuws onder de zon, maar het blijft lekker.
