Oh, en Talaboman = John Talabot & Axel Boman.

Ik kan drum & bass wel waarderen maar ik kom het stom genoeg niet zo vaak tegen (behalve dan de enorm poppy dingen in de Engelse charts). Een genre dat inderdaad best wat meer onder de aandacht mag komen.

Ah, dat laatste zal ik even aanpassen. Komt een beetje door de onhandige naamgeving bij Spotify.

1. Amor - Paradise: Richard Youngs maakt wel vaker albums die qua genre flink van elkaar verschillen (vergelijk Sapphie maar met Barbed Wire Explosion in the Kingdom of Atlantis), vooralsnog zat daar disco volgens mij nog niet bij. De groep Amor (+ Luke Fowler, Michael Francis Duch & Paul Thomson) levert een 13-minuten lange hypnotiserende discotrack, vooral gedragen door het catchy baslijntje en de vocalen van Youngs. Vooralsnog mijn favoriete track van het jaar!

3. Richard Dawson - Ogre: mijn favoriete artiest van de laatste jaren komt in juni met een nieuw album, waarvan Ogre de eerst vrijgegeven single is. Minder experimenteel dan voorganger Nothing Important, vooral door de massarefreintjes. Niettemin zijn de typerende, vreemde Dawson-zanglijnen wederom aanwezig.

9. Bedwetter - Stoop Lights: geen idee of dit een single is, maar dit is indrukwekkende hip-hop van Lil Ugly Mane, rondom thema van depressie en alcoholverslaving. De tekst in het refrein vangt treffend door haar herhaling van zinsdelen het veranderde waarnemingsvermogen van een alcoholroes.

15. NAH - Hiver En Neuf Morceaux: deze drummer heb ik live gezien op Rewire, alwaar hij in de foyer speelde van Prins27. Het was een indrukwekkend optreden: speelde vol overtuiging hip-hoppy drumritmes, met samples die op zijn drumstel door zijn slagen (beuken?) werden getriggerd. Vrij donkere, mysterieuze instrumentals.

Heb ik zomaar de nieuwe release van Poni Hoax gemist. Een band waar ik graag naar luister en zo n beetje de enige band die ik nog op mijn to-see-lijstje heb staan. Maar ik zou er toch voor naar Frankrijk moeten, want ze komen zelden buiten hun landsgrenzen. Muzikaal donker, newwave en electonica verweven met een sausje van rock. Een zanger met een fijne stem die tegen het randje van vals aan zit. Fijn dat ze er weer zijn! Helaas niet zo sterk als hun vorige 2 albums, maar dit album mag er weer zeker wezen

Een vernieuwde top 3 met Perfume Genius als nieuwe nummer 1. De nieuwste van Amber Coffman bleek een verslavend catchy nummer te zijn, dus mag die ook direct de top 3 in.

De hoogste nieuwkomer is de nieuwste single van de indie-folk band Big Thief. Ze brachten vorig jaar een redelijk album uit dat me desondanks niet volledig kon overtuigen. Maar met Mythological Beauty hebben ze wel mijn totale aandacht.

Daarnaast ben ik ook erg te vinden voor de nieuwste van Melody's Echo Chamber. Lekker meanderend en vaag nummer. Voor mensen die The Avalanches wel kunnen waarderen is dit niet te missen.

De MuMeafrekening begint steeds meer op de Nederlandse eredivisie te lijken: net als je denkt dat de koploper een flinke voorsprong heeft opgebouwd, wordt ie achterhaald door de achtervolgers. Want wat een close call deze week! Howling en Cigarettes After Sex eindigen weliswaar gelijk in punten, op basis van meeste nummer-1-noteringen (en anders wel op basis van 'meest genoemd') verovert Cigarettes After Sex de eerste plek. En ook de nummer 3 dringt zich al op. We hebben spannende tijden voor de boeg!

De hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer is van Alt-J, waarvan de vorige single ook nog in de top 10 staat. In Cold Blood klinkt wat dynamischer en muzikaal ook weer veelzijdig. Het begint redelijk stevig, met een luchtig synthesizer deuntje, om vervolgens in de rustige stukken wat meer de nadruk te leggen op het reggae-achtige ritme. Leuk zijn de blazers die dan bijvallen. Erg inventief nummer waarin een hoop gebeurt.

Wat meer rechttoe rechtaan is Whiteout Conditions van The New Pornographers, die met een lekkere stevige synthpopsong op de proppen komen. Alweer de derde single van het gelijknamige album, dat moet klinken als de soundtrack van een toffe jaren '80 film. Tof bandje nog steeds, al doet Dan Bejar (Destroyer) inmiddels niet meer mee.

Popcaan is een graag geziene gastartiest bij enkele grote artiest, zo nam hij ook al plaatjes op met Jamie XX en AlunaGeorge. En nu werkt hij samen met Gorillaz. Saturnz Barz is na Andromeda de tweede single van het nieuwe Gorillaz dat hier komt bovendrijven. Lekkere lome hiphop die zich bij mij al aardig in mijn hoofd heeft gewurmd. De vreemde videoclip is trouwens ook wel leuk om eens te kijken.

Kasabian debuteerde ooit met een plaat waarin de hele vroege jaren '90 britpop/madchester-scene werd gekopieerd, maar inmiddels is hun carrière ruimschoots langer dan die van hun voorbeelden. En niet onterecht, want ze schrijven lekkere nummers en klinken lekker eigenwijs.

Kendrick Lamar sluit de lijst af met The Heart part 4. Kendrick klinkt even rustig en contemplatief, maar trekt op een gegeven moment wel fel van leer tegen o.a. Trump, Big Sean en als ik het goed hoor ook Jay-Z. Maar het is eigenlijk vooral de ontspannen muzikale omlijsting die ik wel kan waarderen.
