De eerste nominatieronde start nu. Ik doe dit in wat stukjes gehakt zodat ik ook de tijd heb om alles te verwerken en eventueel dubbele eruit te halen. Daar heb ik ook jullie bij nodig.

Wil je nomineren...
- kijk dan goed of het nummer er niet al tussen staat door ook rekening te houden met eventuele groepen etc. (bijv. Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, of gewoon the Miracles)
- houd dan rekening met een maximum van 10 nummers per artiest (eerst komt, eerst maalt)
- voeg dan een link (liefst youtube) toe zodat iedereen de nummers kan beluisteren
- houd er dan rekening mee dat het om een soulladder gaat. Ik heb niet heel veel zin alle nominaties voordat het spel begint al te beluisteren om te bepalen of het wel soul genoeg is. Ik ga daarin blindelings uit van jullie eigen kunde. Maak het niet moeilijker dan nodig is.

Het begint met een nominatieronde van een week (deadline: 8 september 2017 om 23:59). Je mag 15 songs nomineren.

Hierbij de eerste vijftien. Ik heb een enorme lijst nominaties klaarstaan en ben maar begonnen met wat grote hits die nog ontbreken in de ladder. Linkjes zal ik straks zoeken en toevoegen.

Overigens hoop ik dat Reijersen (of iemand anders) Melanie De Biasio - Gold Junkies - YouTube nomineert. Leren kennen door jouw Opus de Soul Top 10.

Ik ben behoorlijk weg van Melanie De Biasio sinds het prachtig sfeervolle No Deal en wil haar nog steeds een keer live meemaken. Maar ik denk dat ze meer als jazz dan soul word beschouwd.

Wat zijn je plannen met betrekking op Spotify? Ik meen dat je al een lijst had van de vorige editie, klopt dit? Als je die openbaar maakt zou een ieder daar zijn eigen nominaties aan toe kunnen voegen.

Wat ook fijn zou zijn is als iedereen de Spotify linkjes van zijn nominaties verzameld en deze doorgeeft. Je kunt deze dan in je Excel bestand toevoegen en zo heel makkelijk de playlist op volgorde per ladder zetten.

Niet alles staat op Spotify, maar ik ben wel van plan alles in één lijst te zetten. Daar kan iedereen dan eventueel de gehele ladder uit putten. (verwacht dan wel dat ieder de nummers zelf zoekt in die lijst, maar dat kan makkelijk)

Tof dat je nomineert maar ben je ook van plan om (actief) mee te gaan spelen? Dat vind ik eigenlijk wel een vereiste...

Overigens denk ik niet dat deze allemaal voldoen, maar dat terzijde. Dat blijft tenslotte altijd min of meer subjectief.

Ik ben wel van plan dan om wat ladders uit te pikken ja. Qua luisterdruk vrees ik dat het helaas niet gaat lukken om elke dag mee te kunnen spelen. Behalve de bekende klassiekers van de grote artiesten ken ik nog niet bijster veel nummers.

Tja, ik wil niet zeiken (en dat is meestal de inleiding dat toch gaat gebeuren ) maar ik vind een groot deel ver van soul af staan.
Maar inderdaad zonder meer leuk dat je mee doet!

Eens met Edgar en Minneapolis, sommige nummers vind ik echt geen soul.

Tja, als je er zeer kritisch naar gaat kijken zijn veel oude nominaties die er al 2 ladders in staan ook geen pure soul en zijn er ook meerdere elementen van andere genres in te vinden. Uiteindelijk gebeurt het eenmaal al snel dat een specifiek nummer iets weg heeft van meerdere genres/stijlen.

Gekeken naar de lijst van de vorige editie viel het me op dat er zeer weinig moderne soul/neo-soul/soulpop in staat. Vandaar dat ik wat meer nieuwe nummers heb genomineerd.

Minneapolis: hoe bepaal je of iets ver vanaf de soul af staat? En wanneer een bepaalde grens wordt overschreden? Heb je daar bepaalde maatstaven voor?

Ik denk dat het er meer zijn dan je denkt. Maar dat je veel van de artiesten/nummers niet kent. Uiteraard is het wel veel minder dan materiaal uit de bloeiperiode van de soulmuziek.

Gretz die grens is inderdaad niet zo haarscherp.
Ik ben geen scheidsrechter (maar ook zeker niet vies van deze vaste discussie).
Het klopt dat er veel funk (mijn lijstje deze keer zeker) en ook jazz (Gil Scott/ Nina Simone) of zelfs blues invloeden te vinden zijn (Bobby Bland, Sam Cooke). Ray Charles is vaak geen pure soul maar zit vol rhythm and blues, Rock n Roll en jazz invloeden. Een Jill Scott is meer R&B en Maxwell Neo soul.
Dus.. volop munitie in jouw voordeel.
En toch.. voor mijn gevoel ligt de grens vrij duidelijk bij pop ballads of electronica.

Eigenlijk vind ik alleen deze drie soul. Natuurlijk niet puur, maar wel goed genoeg. Over Young Fathers (wel erg veel hiphop en weinig soul) en Sia kun je nog debatteren.

Als oudere soul/funk, soul/jazz, soul/blues, soul/R&B, soul/rock&roll zonder problemen wordt toegestaan zouden nieuwe nummers die soul als 1 van de hoofdgenres toch ook gewoon mee moeten kunnen doen? Tijden veranderen nu eenmaal. Je hebt nu meer artiesten die soul combineren met art pop, indie pop, alternative R&B, indietronica, folk en noem maar op. Het is toch geen voorwaarde dat het tweede/derde/vierde genre ook in de categorie zwarte muziek moet vallen?

Al m'n nominaties hebben in ieder geval een duidelijke soulcomponent. Dat nummer van Young Fathers is veel minder hiphop dan de rest van hun werk, en juist meer soul. En Rhye maakt bijvoorbeeld een combinatie van smooth soul en sophisti-pop. Een aantal andere nummers passen in de categorie pop/soul.

Laten we maar eens kijken wat de spelleider ervan vind
