Bijzonder fraai album, waar de paar schoonheidsfoutjes onvoldoende zijn om hem van de vijf sterren af te houden. Slainte Mhath trok de aandacht vanaf de allereerste luisterbeurt. The Last Straw is eigenlijk het betere nummer, maar de zangeres die aan het eind inzet (I'm Still Drowning) kost een puntje. De eerste drie nummers vormen duidelijk één geheel, het climactische That Time of the Night gaat er met het laatste punt vandoor, waardoor er voor White Russian niks meer over was. De flow van het album is geweldig, maar in isolatie beschouwd zijn Torch Song en Sugar Mice wat minder.

Onmogelijk album om uit te kiezen voor mij. Mijn eerste kennismaking met Marillion en het album is zo'n mooi geheel dat de songs afzonderlijk nauwelijks te beoordelen en vergelijken zijn. Dan maar zo, vanwege het meezinggehalte bij de concerten.

weinig stemmen tot nu toe voor de B kanten, toch te onbekend?

Ik kom nog met mijn stemmen. Ik heb tot nu toe elk album herluisterd om tot een weloverwogen puntenverdeling te komen. Bij dit album is dat echter ook noodzakelijk, want waar ik die andere albums nog wel aardig in mijn hoofd heb, is dat bij deze toch wel minder het geval. Dat zal wellicht ook meespelen bij anderen.

Dit, ja. En moet zeggen dat ik ook niet bijzonder de behoefte heb om B-kantjes te beluisteren. Niet zolang ik nog genoeg plezier beleven aan de A-lbums.

Grendel is overigens wel een fantastisch nummer.

Vooral Tux On dan nog eens een luisterbeurt gunnen mocht je die nog niet kennen, alleen al voor de fenomenale solo! Zou qua sound en concept eigenlijk niet echt hebben misstaan op Clutching At Straws.

De b kanten uit de Fish periode doen nauwelijks onder voor het album werk. Ik zou dat niet links laten liggen als ik jou was

Aldus de die-hard Marillion-fan. Het gemiddelde doet anders vermoeden.

Zal Tux On eens opzetten een dezer dagen.

Ik vind het verder allemaal niet zo heel veel bijzonder eigenlijk, op de duidelijke uitschieter Tux On en a-side Market Square Heroes na.
