Apple Venus, pt. 1 en Skylarking, voor mij persoonlijk dé twee XTC-meesterwerken, zijn dan weer opvallend ondervertegenwoordigd. Vooral die laatste, want Dear God was oorspronkelijk niet eens opgenomen in de tracklist van Skylarking.

Voor Skylarking steek ik ook regelmatig de loftrompet, vooral tweeluiken Summer's Cauldron/Grass en Ballad for A Rainy Day/1000 umbrella's vind ik genieten. De nummers van Skylarking werken vooral goed in de context van het gehele album, dus ik ken wel begrip opbrengen dat als losstaande nummers de voorkeur naar de rest van hun (sterke) repertoire uitgaat.

Apple Venus zal altijd wel het ondergeschoven laatkomertje zijn, ondanks de beauty's op dat album. Ze mogen hem wat mij betreft ook wel eens aan de digitale archieven van spotify toevoegen.

Klopt ja, Skylarking voelt voor mij ook aan als één samenhangend geheel. Altijd gek als op het einde plots de losstaande single Dear God nog passeert.
