Het verhaal van het heft in eigen handen nemen een statement willen maken is natuurlijk bekend. Het was niet des Motown's, deze anti-oorlog song.

Op het sociaal bewogen album waar dit nummer op staat gaat het in dit nummer over de Amerikaanse ghetto's en de slechte economische situatie toentertijd en welke emotionele gevolgen dat had.
Stond lang op 1 en tot aan het laatste lijstje dacht het de gouden plak te pakken, zoals het in editie 2 ook al eens deed. Maar moet met maar 2 puntjes!!! verschil toch genoegen nemen met het zilver.

En daarmee voor de 3e keer onze nummer 1!!!

Werd gereleased na zijn dood. Door de dood van zijn zoon ging hij meer intrinsieke songs schrijven en interesseerde hij zich ook meer voor geschiedenis en politiek.
Het is toch wel knap te noemen dat het Sam Cooke weer lukt om nummer 1 te zijn, voor de derde keer in 4 edities. Heel lang stond het op 3 in de finale, maar de laatste paar lijstjes stuwde het nog op de valreep naar het Goud.

Mijn nummer 1 en 2 zijn ook de 1 en 2 in deze editie dus zeer tevreden.

Stevie Wonder heeft in het verleden ook met andere nummers de finale gehaald. Ik denk dat er zeker vier of vijf zijn die - mits het balletje goed rolt - de finale kunnen halen. Sam Cooke moet het echt wel van A Change Is Gonna Come hebben. De rest van zijn oeuvre wordt niet breed genoeg gedragen om echt ver te komen in dit spel. Jammer genoeg wat mij betreft. Chain Gang, Bring It On Home to Me en Twistin' the Night Away zouden de finale ook best eens mogen halen.

Hieperdepiep hoera voor Sam Cooke!

Beide Marvin Gayes zijn prachtig, maar ze kunnen toch niet tippen aan het Sam Cooke zijn magnum opus. Een portie meer dan terechte maatschappijkritiek en een boodschap van hoop gevangen in één song. Tijdloos, wonderschoon, en een meer dan terechte winnaar van deze vierde editie.
