1981 was een heel sterk muziekjaar, en de startlijst gaf dat goed weer, met een mooie mix van (proto-)electronic, postpunk, disco, reggae, pop en wave. Helaas zijn vrijwel alle toppers uit de 'alternatieve' genres gesneuveld, waardoor de finale nogal eenzijdig is geworden. Om positief af te sluiten, ik kan hier precies 5 sterke tracks uit selecteren.

Zoals gezegd was het spannend, acht puntjes verschil slechts tussen plek zes en één.
