Tja, geluk of pech met de loting kan bepalend zijn; zomaar 3 van Massive Attack in de finale terwijl Morcheeba vrij kansloos sneuvelde in de 1e ronde. Is triphop nou wel of niet populair hier? Op basis van het eerste zou je zeggen van wel, op het tweede niet. Toch de loting dan?

Vooruit, het laatste puntje voor de band die ik zonder MuMe niet zou hebben gekend. Niet dat het een enorme verrijking is (best leuk zo af en toe) maar altijd nog beter dan de rest van de finalisten.

Tja, Red Snapper had geen enkele kans, dus nee, ik denk niet dat triphop hier bijzonder populair is. Massive Attack wel, die haalden in het verleden ook nog wel eens de finale van de MuMeLadder.

Het eerste nummer ooit van BoC wat ik ook echt goed vind. En deze hoorde ik zojuist pas voor het eerst. Fijne ontdekking derhalve.
Placebo kwam in een iets verder verleden haast alleen maar met sterke tracks en daarop is Pure Morning geen uitzondering.
En als kers op de taart nog het allerbeste nummer van Radiohead. Daarna wordt het niveau toch rap minder.

Maar liefst vier hip-hop nummers in de finale!

De andere finalisten vind ik een pak minder, omdat er buiten het hip-hop genre veel van mijn favorieten nipt zijn uitgeschakeld. (waaronder Tortoise, Refused, Motorpsycho en Pulp.)

Zoiets dan maar... Het ligt allemaal dicht bij elkaar, enkel de nummer één en twaalf waren heel duidelijk.

Nee, een slechte finale ga ik dit niet noemen. Daarvoor ligt het algemene niveau te hoog, elke song is hier minstens een 7 waard. Maar tegelijk zijn er ook weinig echte toppers. Pure Morning is imo de enige, en die steekt dan ook ver boven de concurrentie uit. Des te jammer als je ziet wat voor moois we onderweg zijn kwijtgespeeld (Air, Fatboy, Opeth, All Saints, Manics, Madonna ...).

Ook voor mij is Pure Morning trouwens echt de signature song van Placebo. In elk geval hun eerste nummer dat ik leerde kennen. Pas jaren later in de rest van hun oeuvre gedoken, want aanvankelijk vond ik er weinig aan.

Niet bepaald de verhoopte finale voor mij. Eigenlijk geen echte toppers. No Surprises zit niet in mijn top-5 van OKC, hip-hop die ok is maar niet grandioos en dan nog de verkeerde Placebo.
