Mee eens, en er waren ook genoeg betere alternatieven voor handen. Elk nummer in herkansingsladder 1 had ik liever door zien gaan dan Use Me en ook Let's Stay Together had van mij niet per se door hoeven gaan, ook al is dat een prima nummer. Voor de variatie had ik veel liever Straight Outta Compton en Water No Get Enemy in de finale, maar helaas speculaas. Fight The Power biedt in elk geval nog wat tegenwicht aan al het soulgeweld in de finale. Jazz, blues, hip hop, funk, house en muziek uit Afrika, Latijns-Amerika en het Caribisch gebied (en wat dies meer zij) zijn (zwaar) ondervertegenwoordigd in de finale.

Dat geldt voor mij ook. Prima nummer natuurlijk, maar wel de minste van de vier Withers in de halve finales. Dan zie ik toch liever een unieke artiest zoals Al Green, N.W.A. of Fela Kuti. Zeker die laatste hoort wat mij betreft in een zwarte finale thuis. Helaas vind ik Water No Get Enemy net geen topper binnen zijn oeuvre. Zombie, Confusion, Gentleman of Lady daarentegen...

Opvallend, Water No Get Enemy vind ik juist één van zijn briljantste. Maar alle andere nummers die je noemt zijn voor mij ook toppers die stuk voor stuk uitstekend in de finale gepast zouden hebben, en Shakara ook. Maar goed, we moeten het doen met That's Soul plus een paar uitbijters (en daar zit gelukkig wel een hoop moois tussen).

Jammer genoeg op een haar na geen funk rock en blues in de finale, maar wel een matige Prince. Aan de andere kant: zeer blij dat Back Stabbers en Strange Fruit het gehaald hebben.

Grace had zeker ook niet misstaan

Billie Holiday is toch vrij bluesy? Van Maggot Brain ben ik blij dat ie het niet gehaald heeft, die vind ik eigenlijk niet zo in deze lijst thuishoren.

Jammer van mijn favoriete Stevie en Curtis, maar gelukkig wel Bill door.
Deze van Prince zal mijn linkerrijtje niet halen...

Mwa, wel een stuk minder bluesy dan At Last, het is toch primair vocale jazz. Wel een fraaie toevoeging aan de finale, daar niet van.
