Friend or Foe: atypisch, erg catchy en een heel stuk beter dan die gezapige atmosferische wij-willen-heel-graag-op-PinkFloyd-of-PorcupineTree-lijken-maar-het-lukt-nog-niet-helemaal-muzak van het debuut. Heb hem afgelopen weekend nog in een Spotifymix gefietst en het gezelschap heeft niet ingegrepen. Maar hoewel het in deze ladder allemaal vrij dicht bij elkaar zit en de hoogvliegers niet enorm hoog vliegen, vond ik een puntje ook wat veel van het goede.

Ik vind het gebodene wel allemaal erg 'veilig' en degelijk. Waar is de wat gedurfde en vooruitstrevende muziek gebleven? Ik weet niet meer waar ik punten kwijt moet. Deze van Pink Floyd vind ik ook zo langdradig.

Moet het altijd gedurfd of vooruitstrevend te zijn dan? Mooie muziek is mooie muziek toch?

Progressief is vooruitstrevend. Dit is niet een mooie muziek-ladder, toch?

Maar je punt snap ik wel. Je stemt toch op de mooiste nummers die voorbijkomen

Maar dan nog. Dan geldt voor mij hetzelfde, ik vind de mooiste nummers niet meer terug in deze rondes.

Dat is natuurlijk ieder voor zich maar voor mij persoonlijk hoeft het niet altijd vooruitstrevend te zijn.

Het hóeft ook niet altijd grensoverschrijdend progressief te zijn. Maar mijn oor hoort op dit moment weinig waarom ik progrock als één van mijn favoriete genres beschouw. Een andere invalshoek dus blijkbaar.

Een wat saaiere ladder vergeleken met de rest inderdaad. Gelukkig gebeurt er - wat mij betreft tenminste - voldoende interessants op de grensgebieden van de progressieve muziek. Dit is een ladder die met name door de oudjes wordt gedomineerd, hetgeen deze keer wat minder goed uitpakt naar mijn mening. De laatste periode luister ik sowieso amper naar de wat oudere progressieve rock.

Overigens blijft Dancing with the Moonlit Knight echt een pracht van een song. Een welverdiende vierpunter.
