Matige ladder inderdaad. De niet-serieuze aanpak van Maximum the Hormone doet het verrassend goed hier en de break op het einde is best lekker. Geen enorm sterk nummer, maar wel duidelijk het beste van het rijtje. The Rotted is live leuk, maar op plaat niet al te best en Static-X is heel goed, maar heeft heel veel betere nummers. Abattoir was saai en Avantasia was op het randje van saai en tenenkrommend.

Seeds of Iblis is blijkbaar een band uit Irak. Gedurfde lyrics, dat is zeker. Niet slecht, maar het niveau ligt hoog in deze ladder. Dark Fortress en Insomnium kende ik al, 2 uitstekende bands en 2 prachtige nummers! American Heritage kende ik nog niet maar hier wil ik zeker eens een volledig album van horen.

Met br00tcore heb ik niet zo veel. Set to Destruct is een leuk thrashnummertje. Het probleem met thrash is alleen dat het allemaal heel erg op elkaar lijkt, en wat mij betreft stijgt Set to Destruct niet boven de middelmaat uit. Seeds of Iblis zal misschien met geluk op de vierde plaats komen, maar ik vind het een goed nummer dat gehoord moet worden, en sta achter mijn nominatie. Song of the Blackest Bird en Ylem kunnen goed door de beugel, maar ik vind Insomnium toch net wat beter.

Municipal Waste is duidelijk de sterkste hier. Heel geinige band, al is het wel al erg lang geleden dat ik het nog eens opgelegd heb. American Heritage is een leuke ontdekking, doet wat denken aan een Remission-era Mastodon, alleen niet zo sterk. Daarna was het allemaal vrij matig. Insomnium weet mij niet te raken, met Dark Fortress heb ik het al lang gehad en Seeds of Iblis is dertien-in-een-dozijn, maar daar was toch nog een beetje pret aan.

Insomnium iets minder goed dan ik verwachtte, maar nog net wel de beste. Municipal Waste heb ik ook iets mee, ik weet alleen niet zeker wat het is. Op zich vrij rechttoe rechtaan, maar wel lekker. American Heritage vind ik te veel 'herrie' en Dark Fortress te saai. Dan maar de bizarre provocerende, maar op zich nog redelijk sfeervolle blackmetal van Seeds of Iblis

Buiten Municipal Waste is alles nieuw voor mij. Insomnium is behoorlijk imposant. Daar wil ik wel meer van horen. Dark Fortress vond ik ondanks de sterke uitvoering wat zielloos en obligaat. Seeds Of Iblis vond ik ondanks de nogal puberale teksten wel iets van de bekende ijskoude black metalsferen hebben. Erg charmant. American Heritage is ook weer zoiets waar ik eigenlijk niets op aan te merken heb, maar wat me gewoon helemaal niets doet. Municipal Waste heerscht alles eruit wat mij betreft. Hazardous Mutation is een geweldig album en Set To Destruct is een geweldig obstinate crossoverbeuker. Mosh!

Insomnium was mijn eigen inzending. Geen wonder dus dat ik die 5 punten geef. Dark Fortress vond ik wel aardig, met name de zwaardere stukken. Municipal Waste vond ik behoorlijk vervelend, met name de zang. Ik vermoed dat ik die band live best goed zou vinden, maar wat ik van hun heb gehoord qua studiowerk vond ik niks. Seeds of Iblis was niet perfect, maar de sfeer sprak me erg aan. American Heritage vond ik wat te gekunsteld.
