Langer (muziek) heeft dit samen met Elvis (tekst) geschreven voor zijn album Punch the clock.
Ik vind de zang van Costello echt geweldig op dit nummer, Langer was de producer.
Die Costello uitvoering is dus de "orginele".

Niet helemaal waar. In 1982 was het al een single voor Robert Wyatt.
Pas in 1983 nam Costello het zelf op voor Punch the Clock.

Ik heb die Wyatt op 12"
Maar dit staat er toch echt in dat wiki artikel:
"At first Robert Wyatt wasn't involved. The original plan was to release four different versions of the song, which was then called 'Ten to Nine', as an EP with four different guest vocalists. There were going to be versions of the song by Elvis, Clive and Steve Allen [Langer's former bandmate in the 1970s group Deaf School], but once Elvis had done some more work on the lyrics and changed the song to 'Shipbuilding', they decided to approach Robert Wyatt and his version was so special that it came out as a straight single."

Ja, klopt, dat heb ik gelezen, maar jij had het over de Punch the Clock-versie, en de versie hier in de lijst. En die werd toch echt na de Robert Wyatt-versie gemaakt:
"Costello recorded his own version of the song for his 1983 album Punch the Clock, featuring a performance by jazz trumpeter Chet Baker."

Mij ging het er meer om dat het een cover genoemd werd , terwijl Costello de co-writer van dat liedje
is.
Tja wat is orgineel, voor Wyatt dat nummer in Aug.opnam heeft Costello er ook al een piano versie van opgenomen, leve Joetjoep.
Zo heeft Dave Edmunds ook een Costello liedje (Girls Talk) eerder op plaat uitgebracht, Costello bracht dit later als single uit.

heeft ec girls talk ook al gecoverd? wat is t toch een weinig oorspronkelijke artiest.

Het is een boef , hij steelt het uiterlijk van Buddy Holly, de voornaam van Elvis Presley en de tunes van Abba.

Zo te zien zijn de door mij opgegeven YT-linkjes niet gebruikt. Op zich niet zo erg, maar het geluid bij bovenstaande video van Severed Heads is wel heel brak. Deze is beter. Bij toekomstige ladders graag wel de door de nominatoren genoemde linkjes gebruiken, dank!
