Laat staan dat ik hem dat verwijt. Ik zeg alleen dat zijn stem dezelfde egaliteit heeft en dat ik daar niet van houd. Als Sam het had ingezongen had ik het nogsteeds niks gevonden.
Ik geef een punt aan The Roots, omdat ik het opstuwende van het nummer (wat nog beter naar voren komt in het origineel) met het korte rapje van Black Thought prefereer boven L.C. Cooke. Maar laat ik duidelijk zijn, ik vind deze versie van Hard Times niet heel bijzonder en/of goed. Het is alleen dat ik L.C. Cooke nog minder vind. En dat heeft niks te maken met het wel of niet nadoen van broer. Sorry.

Aha, jij vind Sam Cooke niet zo goed. Waarschijnlijk mede omdat je de vergelijking aanhaalde heb ik het anders geïnterpreteerd. ... en geen probleem dat je andere keuzes maakt hè, geen sorry zeggen voor een andere mening. Het is gewoon zoals het is

Ladder 21 Janelle is duidelijk de minste van dit stel als het op soul aankomt. Ik heb het zelf sowieso niet zo op haar (ook al staat haar debuutalbum in de kast). Alle andere nummers vind ik sterk en dan vind ik Prince en Minnie nog eens met fantastische nummers in deze ladder staan.
Ladder 22 heeft een buitenbeentje die zeker geen punten van mij ging krijgen: John & The Roots. Ik ben liefhebber van The Roots, maar hun cover album doet me zeer weinig. Het is geen verschrikkelijke muziek, maar de originele tracks zijn stukken beter. Leuke ontdekking uit de vorige editie van Patti en ook L.C. kende ik niet voordat ik op MuMe rondneusde.

Ladder 22: Ik ben een groot liefhebber van Matata (album staat op 5* bij mij). Candi hoort bij mijn favoriete zangeressen en Patti Jo heeft een tof nummer hier. Restpuntje voor Cooke, want van Hard Times bestaan er natuurlijk veel betere versie(s).

Ladder 23: Ik heb alle nummers keurig beluisterd, maar die van The Impressions ben ik alweer vergeten. Het punt is willekeurig gegeven. De niet-verheffende-maar-wel-lekkere funk van B.T. krijgt het meest.
Ladder 24: Normaliter is 'n dergelijk geluid niet mijn ding, maar voor Teddy maak ik graag een uitzondering. Nu is mijn opmerking dat ik die van de Chi-Lites te gezapig vind waarschijnlijk niet meer geloofwaardig, ach, jullie moeten het er mee doen. The Staple Singers leveren ook een leuke song. Roger gaat mij verder iets te lang door dus ik verkies All The People boven hem. Dan had hij het maar bij part 1 moeten laten!

"Energy to burn" vind ik ook goed van ze, maar haalt het niet bij deze.
"Hey ladies" moest ik toentertijd aan wennen, maar het is inmiddels een soort klassieker geworden.
"Woman's got soul" wint ruim van het te zijige "Choice of colors" en "The Snake" klinkt aanvankelijk lekker, maar ik knap af op die gesproken stemmetjes.
24 vind ik niet best.
Niet omdat het mijn nominatie is, maar All the people stijgt er boven uit wat mij betreft.
"Oh girl" vind ik nog wel te pruimen (op het randje). Teddy vind ik te klef hier, maar iemand moet de 2 punten krijgen, "If You're Ready" heeft me nooit veel gedaan, en deze van Roger vind ik maar erg chaotisch.

Ladder 23 vind ik eigenlijk best wel goed met een zeer sterke Lee Fields en Impressions (telkens als ik dit nummer hoor, draai ik hem een stuk of 5 keer achter elkaar). Verder een leuke Al Wilson en ietswat overgewaardeerde B.T. Express. Woman's Got Soul vind ik ook prima, maar toch de minst sterke in deze ladder.
Ladder 24 is iets minder. De 2 nummers die ik al kende krijgen ook de meeste punten. Roger's nummer is best wel lekker, maar duurt veel te lang. All The People laten mij eindelijk weten waar Boogie Down Productions hun sample vandaag haalden voor Still No. 1. Dat alleen al heeft ze een bonuspunt bezorgt. Teddy heeft een prachtige stem, maar dit nummer gaat wel iets te ver.

Dat is niet helemaal eerlijk want niet iedereen is in de gelegenheid om direct te stemmen. Bij een gelijke stand zou je ook kunnen kijken naar de plek van vorig jaar in de lijst. Of je gooit een muntje op achter je pc.
