Ladder 31: Alweer een ladder waarin ik twee nominaties heb staan. De andere drie nummers zijn ook erg goed. Ongelukkige loting? Ik vrees dat Eddie het niet gaat halen. Het nummer van Eddie illustreert voor mij echter waar soulmuziek om draait. Een autobiografisch nummer over een man die alles verloren heeft - en dat hoor je. Maar ik heb al eerder proberen uit te leggen waarom dit nummer zo speciaal is. Het is dan ook moeilijk te verkroppen dat dit niet begrepen wordt. Het verschil met de tranentrekker van Otis is voor mij duidelijk. Niet dat Otis het niet meent, maar de compositie is veel beter uitgedacht, en wanneer Otis in de hoogte gaat is in die plekken waar je het verwacht. Dat terwijl het nummer van Eddie minder poespas heeft - maar dat is juist het mooie. Eddie zingt gewoon. Maar enfin, ik kan het blijkbaar toch niet uitleggen.

Ladder 32: Ik vind deze ladder lang niet zo goed als de vorige. Vooral de aantrekkingskracht van Smoke Get In Your Eyes heb ik nooit begrepen, maar die zal wel weer doorgaan. Ik had The Isley Brothers nooit eerder zo gehoord, maar deze beginnende Rock 'N Roll is ook niet voor mij weggelegd.

31. Al Johnson is een mooie ontdekking in deze editie, verder een fijn nummer van The Meters, Badu is wel aardig maar hoeft van mij niet echt en de gospel van Clay is nog minder. Die Eddie schijnt volgens Mb. gewoon te zingen, maar dat heb ik toch niet gehoord.

32. Als er dan toch 3 van moeten doorgaan … laat het dan maar Gladys, Thomas en Isley zijn, de andere twee vind ik waardeloos; Gladys is wel een lekker nummer en heeft de 4 punten verdiend; The Platters krijgen voor dat gezapige liedje onverdiend toch nog het restpunt.

Ja, daar lijkt het meer op

Gelukkig is jouw andere nominatie (Al Johnson) wel goed; hopelijk haalt die het wel ... met Eddie erbij in de ladder worden die kansen wel een stuk groter.

Ladder 31 Heeft 3 sterke nummers waaronder een fantastische en toegankelijke van The Meters. Het ene restpuntje had ik eigenlijk liever niemand willen geven. Al Johnson is wel een ontdekking.
De zwakke ladder 32 heeft eigenlijk maar 1 nummer wat punten verdient. De rest is matig tot zwak. Ik vind dit echt de zwakste ladder tot nu toe.
