"Jump Around," an impossibly infectious and catchy single, instantly elevated House of Pain from an unknown white hip-hop group to near-stars when it became a massive crossover hit in 1992. It made the band and it also broke the band, consigning them to the level of one-hit wonders. House of Pain continued to release records after their eponymous 1992 debut and "Jump Around," yet none of them gained much attention, partially because of the band's self-consciously loutish behavior. Led by rapper Everlast, the group celebrated their Irish-American heritage by wearing green, drinking prodigious amounts of beer, and swearing constantly. It certainly earned them attention at the outset, particularly when it was tied to a single like "Jump Around," but the bottom quickly fell out of their career. The group's second album, 1994's Same as It Ever Was, went gold, but it failed to generate a hit single, and by the time of 1996's Truth Crushed to Earth Shall Rise Again, the band had been forgotten.
Everlast (born Erik Schrody, August 18, 1969) became fascinated by hip-hop while he was in high school, eventually becoming part of Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate. His association with Ice-T led to a contract with Warner Bros., who released his debut album, Forever Everlasting, in 1990. After the record bombed, Everlast formed House of Pain with his high school friend Danny Boy (born Daniel O'Connor) and DJ Lethal (born Leor DiMant), a Latvian immigrant. Released on Tommy Boy Records, the group's eponymous 1992 debut was co-produced by Muggs, who masterminded Cypress Hill's groundbreaking debut. Muggs gave "Jump Around" its distinctive, incessant beat, which merged a deep bass groove with drum loops and Public Enemy-styled sirens. On the back of Kris Kross' spring hit "Jump," "Jump Around" became a huge hit in the summer of 1992, peaking at number three on the pop charts. Both the single's video and the remainder of House of Pain celebrated the group's Irish heritage in a tongue-in-cheek fashion that quickly became shtick. Throughout their 1993 tour, the group ran into trouble with promoters and the law, culminating in Everlast's March arrest for possessing an unregistered, unloaded pistol at Kennedy Airport. He was sentenced to community service, and later that year, the group began work on their second album.
Like its predecessor, 1994's Same as It Ever Was was produced by Muggs. Upon its summer release, the record was greeted with surprisingly strong reviews and sales, debuting at number 12 on the charts. However, the sales quickly slowed as "On Point" failed to become a hit. Most of the next two years were spent in seclusion, and the group returned in the fall of 1996 with Truth Crushed to Earth Shall Rise Again, a record that was ignored by both the press and the public. Everlast returned in 1998 as a solo act, and gained critical acclaim for his debut, Whitey Ford Sings the Blues.

Everlast ging solo, DJ Lethal ging naar Limp Bizkit. Voor de rest weet ik niet zo heel veel van House of Pain, alleen dat Jump Around het nog altijd goed doet op feestjes.

Jump Around is natuurlijk de bekendste hit van House of Pain. Heb nog 2 albums ergens liggen, onder een dikke laag met stof. Toch nog maar een keer oppakken.

Ik ken alleen Jump Around en die vind ik wel ok. Toen het bij ´Rayman is laat´ vaste tune werd heb ik het pas ontdekt eigenlijk.

Jump Around komt inmiddels mijn neus uit. Echt overal wordt dat nummer gedraaid. Het is mooi geweest, luie DJs, kom eens met wat anders!
House of Pain heb ik wel ooit beluisterd en vond dat wel een aardig album, weet er alleen bijzonder weinig meer vanaf.
Van Everlast heb ik wel een album en dat is best goed, zijn beef met Eminem was ook wel vermakelijk.

House of Pain ain't down with us
Aldus Cypress Hill. Volgens mij waren ze eerst vriendjes (Muggs produceerde ook voor HoP, o.a. Jump Around), later niet meer en toen weer wel.

10. Shannon

Shannon wasn't a great singer-as far as dance divas go, she didn't have the chops of Gloria Gaynor, Thelma Houston, Claudja Barry, Donna Summer or Loleatta Holloway. Shannon was merely a competent singer, but a competent singer who sometimes had great material and great producers to work with. And thanks to the production team of Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa, Shannon's debut album, Let the Music Play, has a lot going for it. Liggett and Barbosa give the album an attractive, high-tech sound, and some of the songs that Shannon embraces are excellent. Released in late 1983, the haunting title song went down in history as a dance-floor classic-and club gems like "Give Me Tonight" and "My Heart's Divided" (both of which Barbosa co-wrote) are almost as strong. Shannon successfully ventures into pop-rock territory on "One Man," although she isn't very convincing on the ballads "It's You" and "Someone Waiting Home"-ballads and slow jams were never her strong point. But for the most part, Let the Music Play underscores Liggett and Barbosa's ability to make Shannon sound good

Tsja, wie het heeft opgezocht hiero weet al dat ik het album heb geplaatst, becommentarieerd, en als enige heb gestemd. Ik kan er ook niets aan doen dat niemand weet wat dit is. Het is absoluut een van mijn favoriete dance-albums allertijden. Hij stond in mijn afstreeplijst toen ik, op de eerste dag van registratie bij MuME, mijn top 10 moest invoeren (daar stonden trouwens wel 35 albums op). Maar zo goed vind ik dit dus wel.
Zware beats (wel typisch mid 80s geluid), gecombineerd met trage, maar sterke melodieen.
Overigens maakte Shannon een jaar of twee geleden nog een soort van comeback, dat was in combinatie met zo'n moderne DJ/producer. Maar ik weet niet meer hoe het heet. Lang niet zo mooi als het oude werk, maar ik weet nog wel dat ik bij die videoclip iets had van: toch mooi dat ze er nog is.

Volgens mij bedoel je Les Rythmes Digitales? Op dat album vervult ze namelijk een gastrol in het nummer 'Take A Little Time' (LRD timmert nog steeds aan de weg trouwens, nu als producer/remixer van Madonna. En volgens het vooraanstaande tv-programma RTL Boulevard schijnen ze zelfs een verhouding te hebben

N.E.R.D heeft de soundtrack geschreven van the nieuwe Fast/Furious. Ten minste, nieuw? Het is een remix van Rockstar. Ik wil nog even vermelden dat ik het dramatische films vind hoor

dan heeft Will Smith meer in te brengen hoor. Hij maakte vroeger best wel relaxte tracks, en daarom vind ik hem hier cker bij horen.
N.E.R.D is idd met een nieuw album bezig, dus die mag weg, eveneens als Jagged Edge die achte rmijn rug om gewoon ff een nieuw album hebben gedropt.. die ga ik dus cker ff checken.

Waar haal je het vandaan dat NERD aan een nieuw album bezig is? Het lijkt me dat Pharrel nu eerst gaat touren enzo, aangezien zijn nieuwe album net uit is.
