Volgens mij is dit het eerste jaar waarin ik geen albums uit het lopende jaar in mijn lijst opneem. Deels omdat ik nog maar weinig albums uit 2017 ken, deels omdat ik niet ondersteboven ben van de albums die ik wél gehoord heb.

Omdat er aardig wat verschuivingen in mijn lijst zijn geweest (dat krijg je als je je lijst vanaf de grond opnieuw opbouwt) gooi ik er even wat statistiekjes tegenaan.

Je hebt de afgelopen 7 jaar slechts 27 albums gehoord die goed genoeg zijn voor een toplijst? Dat vind ik toch vrij schokkend

Voor gemiddelde MuMe-maatstaven vind ik dat aantal nog eigenlijk best meevallen. Er stemmen in de MuMeLadder verscheidende users mee die lang niet aan het getal van 27 van Paddy komen (die missen natuurlijk een hoop prachtigs, maar dat terzijde).

Het is maar net waar je je prioriteiten legt. Voor de mensen geldt volgens mij wel dat ze meer verschillende albums zouden willen beluisteren, maar dat ze er gewoon niet aan toe komen vanwege tijdgebrek. In de 60s kom ikzelf vooralsnog maar tot een Top 10 en in de 70s net aan een Top 20. Meer albums die ruim voldoende scoren uit deze decennia ken ik gewoon nog niet. Dat is toch ook niet zo heel gek?

Hopelijk kunnen er in het nieuwste decennium meer vrouwen doorstoten tot de Top 50 dan alleen de usual suspects PJH en JN, want de balans is hier nog steeds zoek en dat is nergens voor nodig als je ziet hoewel fantastische vrouwelijke muzikanten er in de 10s zijn opgestaan. Vorig jaar stonden er in de lijst in totaal 6 albums waarop een vrouw meespeelde. Dat moet toch overtroffen kunnen worden zou je zeggen.

Over 2017 heb ik alleen al 100-130 albums beluisterd. De meeste slechts 1,2 of 3 keer en dat vind ik te weinig om op te nemen in een toplijst. Bovendien neem ik alleen albums op die ik fysiek in huis heb. Klinkt als een rechtvaardiging? Misschien is het dat ook wel. Ik wil vooral de indruk wegnemen dat ik niet tot de luisteraars behoor die vind dat er tegenwoordig niets fatsoenlijks meer wordt gemaakt. Integendeel, als een soort spons zuig ik alles op. Voor een opname in een toplijst wil ik een album echter door en door kennen en hedendaagse albums hebben dat stadium nog niet bereikt.

Maar als je zoveel albums zo weinig luistert, dan krijgen albums toch niet de kans om te beklijven? Als je de helft minder zou luisteren en alles 2 keer zo vaak dan zou het misschien al heel anders liggen.

Ik kan me overigens goed voorstellen dat de verleiding groot is veel te willen horen, maar ik moet zeggen dat sinds ik actief meedoe met topics als de MuMe-Afrekening en soortgelijke topics over de charts van 25 en 50 jaar terug ik ook niet zoveel albums meer luister en dat bevalt me eigenlijk wel prima (ik geloof 8 albums bestemd in 2017).

Voelt soms als een klein dilemma inderdaad. Het is de keerzijde van spotify: alles kunnen luisteren wat je wilt zorgt dat minder beklijft. Ik heb daar nog niet de ideale weg in gevonden.

Herkenbaar, Spotify heeft ervoor gezorgd dat ik albums gemiddeld minder vaak ben gaan luisteren. En omdat losse nummers zo gemakkelijk voorhanden zijn en ik het tof vind om zoveel mogelijk verschillende artiesten te ontdekken ben ik ook meer naar singles gaan luisteren in plaats van albums.
