Week 26

- Be Someone (Ft. Jake Bugg) van CamelPhat heb ik volgens mij inmiddels in meerdere lijstjes gezien, maar Dim was de eerste. CamelPhat maakt over het algemeen een beetje foute housetracks. Be Someone is wellicht ook enigszins cheesy, maar potverdikkeme wat is ie lekker! Glijdt naar binnen als zoete koek. Wellicht iets voor 123poetertjes?
- Silversun Pickups heeft een weinig vernieuwend album afgeleverd, maar wel boordevol goede tracks. Placebo meets Porcupine Tree zou ik zeggen. Singles It Doesn’t Matter Why en Freakazoid staan flink op replay deze week. It Doesn’t Matter Why leunt erg op strijkers en puilt uit van de hooks. Freakazoid voelt voor mij erg prog aan, vandaar ook mijn Porcupine Tree vergelijking.
- Kishi Bashi is de zoveelste folk ontdekking voor mij. Zijn album valt tot nu toe toch ietwat tegen, maar de singles zijn van een erg hoog niveau. F Delano brengt een gigantische glimlach op mijn gezicht door de vrolijke zang en melodie. Summer Of ’42 is een pak dramatischer, erg meeslepend met die prachtige strijkers.
- Roísín Murphy gaat gewoon verder met waar ze gebleven was, dikke singles releasen. Incapable (Edit) heeft een onweerstaanbare groove en de vocals zijn weer dik in orde.

week 26 van 2019 - Marika en Abbie blijven onverstoorbaar aan kop, Marika al 7 weken op 1 en Abbie 6 weken in de top 3 waarvan 4 op 2. Maar er lijkt opvolging aan te komen.
Hoogste binnenkomer is Ali Barter met haar 2e single van dit jaar. Backseat is weer een lekker uptempo pop/rock liedje, op eerste gehoor weer beter dan de vorige (en op 2e en 3e etc nog niet veranderd).De clip is leuk maar kan ook afleiden van de muziek als je die te vaak ziet. Dan maar zonder clip luisteren
Korfbal , nederlandser kan niet. De band bracht in 2018 hun eerste ep uit (op cassette!), ik zag ze toen ook live op Tweetact. Heerlijke muziek. Het nieuwe nummer lijkt iets minder uitbundig dan de nummers op de ep maar is zeker nog erg goed.
Roufaida, ook nederlands maar wel met Marokkaanse roots. Ze begon onder de naam Southbound (solo/band/project?) waarmee ik haar ook live zag op Metropolis. Nu onder eigen naam is de muziek nog iets zweveriger, bijzonder en zeker interessant.
Angie McMahon lost zichzelf af, nadat ex-nummer 1 Pasta verdwijnt komt nu de opvolger. Dat is een stuk meer ingetogen maar dat is ook een kant van Angie zoals ze op BKS al bewees. Groeiplaatje.
Nog meer nederlands en ook zeker groeiplaatje is de nieuwe van Ella East, vorig jaar nog een fijne EP afgeleverd met mooie dreampop, inmiddels afgestudeerd aan het conservatorium gaat ze op de nieuwe single zelfs meer de jazzy kant op. Ok, de stem blijft herkenbaar, de rest mag nog wat groeien dus.

Colors van soulduo Black Pumas stormt de top 10 binnen en krijgt deze week gezelschap van hun nieuwste single. Oct 33 is een heel fraaie soulballad die met veel gevoel is gezongen.
Lucy Dacus zag ik vorige week nog een knap concert geven in Kortrijk en nu is er een nieuwe single dat ze heeft geschreven ter gelegenheid van de Amerikaanse Onafhankelijkheidsdag, een kritische countryachtige song over haar thuisland.
Nog nieuw is de gothic folk van Chelsea Wolfe met een meer intimistische song dan we van haar gewend zijn. Clairo staat al weken in mijn lijst met de geweldige popsong Bags en nu is ze terug met de 2de single van haar komende debuutalbum. Opnieuw geproduced door Rostam is door de toevoeging van elektronische elementen en autotune dit een heel ander soort nummer dan Bags, benieuwd wat we nog van haar mogen verwachten.
Helado Negro zag ik al meermaals passeren bij aerobag en de nieuwe single Two Lucky mag er zeker zijn, fraai gezongen dromerige folksong.
Tenslotte nog de eerste solosong van Caroline Polachek, de voormalige zangeres van Chairlift (die ik nog ken van Bruises). De videoclip is een van de knapste die ik dit jaar al zag.

Nieuw in de lijst:
- Chris Forsyth met een groots aangekleed rock liedje met heerlijke gitaarwerk en slepende drums als rode draad.
- Kelsey Lu met een werkelijk waar sublieme 10cc cover, maar dan allemaal net wat dromiger (ja inderdaad, zelfs nog dromeriger dan origineel)
- Plaid, een elektronisch duo uit Great-Britain met een zeer pakkend liedje. Voor liefhebbers van IDM.
- Serpentwithfeet met een soort fusie van R&B en Soul. Ik vind hem in ieder geval prachtige stem hebben. (Komt best tot zijn recht met koptelefoon op!)
- Sistertalk, een Londonse Post-punk band met hun eerste single Vitriol. Een van de vele veelbelovende nieuwe stroming rock bandjes uit London (Denk aan Black Midi, Squid, Pottery, Sports Team)
- Metronomy, een van mijn eigen indie darlings alleen al dankzij The English Riviera, doen gewoon wat je van ze gewend bent en doen dat moeiteloos.

Ik vind Chairlift wel goed, daarom dit nummer 2x een kans gegeven - van de week al een keer en nu nav jou post nog een keer maar nee, doet me toch erg weinig.

Lucy Dacus daarentegen, dit nieuwe nummer had ik nog niet meegekregen, gaat zeker volgende week bij mij binnenkomen.

De productie zit echt knap in mekaar, hoor er elke keer nieuwe dingen in. En haar stem doet me hier ook aan Imogen Heap denken en de wonderlijke videoclip past er perfect bij. Maar is een song dat misschien wat tijd nodig heeft, is op eerste gehoor wat minder catchy dan Chairlift

Binnen De Zestien 29/06/2019

Het leek er vrijdag nog niet op dat er veel nieuw materiaal de lijst in zou komen. Uiteindelijk toch vijf nieuwe binnenkomers. Editors zat al even op de reservebank en mag nu het veld in met Frankenstein, geen topper voor Smith en zijn mannen maar wel een lekker nummer. Dat geldt ook zéker voor Dancers van Plaid dat ik oppikte uit het lijstje van aerobag - zo'n nummer dat nog gerust tien minuten langer mag duren. Phantogram staat er ook bij, met enige vertraging komt deze nu ook vrolijk binnen.
Korfbal heb ik volgens mij leren kennen via ranja en toen ik de nieuwe single in zijn lijst zag staan, ben ik die ook meteen ga checken. Goed genoeg voor een notering in mijn lijst.
En dan nog een naam die wellicht hier en daar een wenkbrauw doet fronsen: Benny Benassi. Ja, die naam associeer ik ook meteen met het überslechte Satisfaction, maar zijn nieuwe single is zeldzaam goed, ondanks de autotune.
